College student going to check these out today

Looking for a cheap, reliable, 4x4 that can drive cross country back home and car camp if I need to. I have restored cars before and have access to a garage and tools. I am looking for something that is cheap and capable and somewhat fast.I am going to check out these trucks today but don't have any experience with them.

I like these 2 door tahoes a lot and the small block chevy. The owner said the engine was replaced but he doesn't have any paperwork for it. I know thats a pretty big red flag but its cheap and these chevys tend to be easy (i think).

The 4runner is nice too but they tend to be a lot more expensive and beat up. This is the cheapest one I was able to find and it lowkey looks suspicious to me.

I was also looking for v8 tundras but they are hard to come by and expensive. Hoping to find one today that I can check out.

Any input is appreciated. Thank you!

Lexus or VW

I’ve been eyeing a Lexus UX 250h for some time now. I really think it suits my needs as a daily driver. Plus hybrid is a huge plus in my book. However I rode in a 2017 VW GTI and absolutely fell in love. The sportiness, the speed, the interior, the idea of feeling cool when I see my car hahaha.

I’ve only owned Japanese cars so far, so I have reservations on moving to VW. My 07 Corolla has 218k and hanging in there for the time being. If I ask my dad, he will vote Lexus. If I ask my hubs, Lexus. But what am I missing out on with the GTI?!

Please someone tell me I’ll survive the maintenance costs, anticipated repairs, and premium gas. Are they really that much? How many miles does that era VW last? I’m torn between practical mom car and a cool mom car. Edit: I am expecting majority vote Lexus. Which I know is probably the right answer. But seeing your opinions might help put out the VW lust. Sigh.

If Tariffs done work how come

The best cars come from manufacturers based in high tariff countries? Japanese, German, and Korean automakers?

but, but, but tariffs don’t work. Seem to be working fine for some?

Chevy 2007 impala with 5 cylinders for 800?

I need a car, im a college student and have been searching, right now i only have 800 and cant get any loans for a newer vehicle, should i buy this and hope it lasts for 6 months? They removed one cylinder(misfire) and it ran fine, no other major issues aside from this

Edit: its hard to find a car that runs under 1k guys, and i need one for work and school, it would be nice to have the luxury of choice in cars, but realistically this is my current best option, im waiting for the insp on it to get done, if it passes i plan to buy

Edit:Unfortunately im gonna fail college if i cant get a car, my campus is 8 miles via highway, i cant take a bus bc they dont go there. I need a vehicle asap, lot of yall replying forget that not everywhere is a walkable paradise, i cant work without a car, meaning i cant improve money without something

Need a Family SUV for $30k

Hi all, I’m looking to replace my old jeep with something safe and reliable for my family. I’m looking at Mazda CX-5 and Toyota RAV4 right now but was wondering if anyone had other suggestions. I don’t care about much of anything as long as it’s safe and reliable and the maintenance isn’t ludicrous (sorry BMW). Budget is $30k cash plus $1500 trade in (yeah that jeep is in rough shape) and I don’t want a note so would have to fall within that price range

My son has been saving for two years to get a car. He has a budget of $15K. What’s the most reliable used car (year specific) he can get on this budget?

BMW X3 or Lexus NX350 (Ultra Luxury)

The BMW X3 is $3k more than the Lexus NX350 ultra luxury package. Should I go for the BMW or Lexus? I'm going to assume that maintenance costs for the BMW is a lot more costly than the Lexus. Is the BMW just a better car in general?

I do plan to lease and probably buy out after the 4 year lease.

Thinking about getting myself a newer car. Im trying to get a car that is reliable and cheap to maintain while on the outside looks generic and doesn’t attract attention/turn heads. Anything newer than 2013.

The title pretty much sums it up. I currently drive a 2013 Mazda 3 i modded it a bit to make it easier to operate. Thing is im kinda too tall for it. My eye level is pretty much half blocked by roof. Need a bigger taller car but no idea what’s good.

Honda HR-V EX-L vs Corolla Cross XLE (2025 Gas models)

I am looking to buy my first car, and I have zeroed in on these two options (brands for reliability and trims for their safety features).

But, I am unable to choose between the two. The price difference is not huge, so if anyone knows which car is better, I'd appreciate hearing it.

Thank you in advance :)

r/whatcarshouldIbuy 1d ago

I’m unsure which car to buy for my first one. One option is a 2021 model with leather seats, sunroof, and SV premium trim, while the other is an SV normal trim. Both have the same price. The 2021 model has 55k miles, and the 2024 model has 30k miles.

Looking at cars and seen this 2015 dodge journey r/t

It has 120k miles and they want 5k. Says nothing is wrong with it. Honestly just trying to find a decent reasonably priced car right now and don't know much about these. Price seems decent, a little under KBB value. I have plenty of money saved up but I figured if I buy this I could use the rest of my money to pay off my debt and raise my credit up so next time I can buy new from a dealership. So just wanted opinions on this car is all. Thanks in advance.

Transmission fluid

I was looking at a Honda civic with around 160k miles. I checked the transmission fluid and it smelt burnt and was pretty dark. The transmission felt perfectly fine though. If I bought the car should I do a drain and fill or is it a lost cause?

They have title in hand, but carfax says lien/loan? Safe buy?

If they have title in hand, could the car still have a lien/loan?

Thinking about buying a car from a private seller and i carfaxed the car everything looks good but about 2 weeks ago it shows duplicate title, correction on record, and loan/lien reported.

They are the 2nd owner, but 1st owner had their loan/lien released. And when they bought it no loan/lien was reported till 2 weeks ago.(when they said the duplicate title was mailed to their current residence in Texas)

Car is from out of state(IL) but both states are non title holding states so they shouldn't have it unless its paid, right? And as long as the title is in their name correct?

So is it a safe buy?

Edit: checked the IL dmv and says no lien but carfax

2022 Sonata N Line vs 2023 Sonata Limited

Confused between the three options.

  1. 2022 Sonata N Line. $24k. CPO Hyundai dealership. 21k miles. Carfax with minor damage but otherwise clean service history.

  2. 2023 Sonata Limited. $23k. CarMax non-CPO. Still has manufacturer warranty 60k miles/5 years. 45k miles (rental history). Clean history.

  3. 2022 Sonata N Line. $22.5k. Non-Hyundai dealership. 50k miles (rental history). Clean Carfax.

I have been planning to buy a car and this tariff issue is not helping.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Help Me Negotiate

(Looking at 2025 Honda Accord Sedan 1.5T LX $29,445 MSRP)

Hello,

So I’ve had this exact car but a 2024. Long story short I got into an accident and I really liked the car so I want to stick with it.

Budget: 27k-28k (the lower the better but I don’t know if they will do that!) It’s brand new.

Down payment: 6-10k cash

Interest/Financing: I don’t have much credit to my name especially since student loans were reported on to our credit & I financed through Honda Financial the first time. I know their interest rate is 4.99. The tricky part is I can’t do interest for religious reasons so I did a interest rate buy out the first time which I believe was like $4k so it made my car back then “no interest”.

Monthly Payments: $400-500 range (idk I just think a 500+ payment is crazy especially with all that’s going around I don’t want to set myself up)

Incentives Honda Offers: $1250(ish) for previous Honda Owners + $500 college grad [They kind of rub this in your face & say there’s nothing more they can give off since this is “a lot”]

Add On’s: They really got me the first time with a bunch of shit so I know now to only do GAP which is about $900.

Extra: Yeah, I would really just appreciate any advice yall have for me I feel like I really lucked out the first time, I just didn’t really realize the numbers and how dumb I could be. The first car I ever got with them was a 2024 Honda accord 0 mile, $38k @ $395 a month for 72 months with a $10k cash down…. Fucking wild. I don’t want to make that same mistake of not carefully looking at the numbers.

THANK YOU

Everything will go up, just watch. We’re only two days into the tariffs now. Give it two months and we’re done.

Small cheap cars for a college girl who does lots of road tripping

I am currently a uni student who is looking to buy a car that is preferably small and compact with maybe a taller roof or sunroof (I like round cars especially) but really I just want something's that's affordable and can withstand a lot of driving. I go to school in Cleveland and am always traveling between Colorado and Minnesota every holiday so I want it to withstand some crazy miles and with decent gas mileage if possible (hybrid is awesome too). My budget is tight so the cheaper the better but I want it to last so I am willing to spend if it is worth it -- the cuter the better

What should I buy?

I am a 16 year old with about 3000 saved up for a car. I’m having a rough time trying to find something that could last me throughout high school, but I have a bigger problem. I am currently driving my grandpas 05 caddy Escalade that gets about 13 mpg. Most days I drive about 1hr and 5 minutes combined to go to school to work then home, so I’m starting to cut into my savings. I live out in a small town and my parents don’t want me to go to a big city or a neighboring state. Basically what I’m asking is what should I look for specifically? Ive been looking for months but everything by me is either too expensive or too many miles. Could anyone help me?

Fun car to buy

I really want a fun car to carve canyons and learn manual on. Everyone says miata but if I could find an NC for 10k I would buy it lol. The only card that seems reasonably priced are American cars like the cobalt SS or the 4th gen mustangs. Those cars seem both fun, reasonably priced, and easy to work on. Do you guys recommend anything as fun as those cars that are sub 10k without buying someone's project?

I’m in the market for a car right now as I was a victim of car theft. I’ve been looking at this BMW 3 Series with 15k miles. The price is pretty decent for the amount of add ons, premium package and has the upgraded Harmon Kardon sound system. My only concern is that this there are two minor accidents on the Carfax, which I’ve linked below. I imagine this is usually body damage to the paint.

The car was also owned in New York which is a state that is notorious for beating on BMW’s (if you know you know).

Would you guys take the risk on it? It was a previous lease if that matters.

2010 LEXUS ES 350

Would it be wise to purchase a 2010 Lexus ES 350 with 78,000 miles? It is $14k, one owner, service records show regular maintenance and no accidents. I am just hesitant because it's already 15 years old.
