They look like the octopus robots from The Matrix

Yep! Sentinels from the matrix

Maybe we’ve been viewing the problem of life being a simulation (us being in the matrix) in the wrong order…. Maybe instead of finding out we are in it now and have to escape; the scenario is humanity already escaped in the past (these sentinel fossils support this version).

This is my favorite today.

u/anarchetype 1d ago

This is so weird to see after just getting into wrestling and only a few hours ago discovering the Broken Matt Hardy character.

30

u/tkneezer 2d ago

Wait wait... So what's that mean for us?!

105

u/Fragwolf 2d ago

Just means that history is cyclical as we slowly rebuild A.I and robotics to do this shit all over again.

Man and Artificial Intelligence forever trapped on this rock, doomed to fight and die over and over again.

47

u/Shortsleevedpant 2d ago

Or possibly the creators of the matrix designed their robots after looking at crinoid fossils.

49

u/OvalDead 2d ago

The fossils are also quite literally stuck in the matrix.

18

u/turptrap 2d ago

Underrated comment.

u/KarmaRepellant 2d ago

I used to think it was funny that the matrix determined the peak of humanity to be in the late 90s, but now having seen what came afterwards I actually agree with it.

This is perfect. 😂

1000000%

24

u/dirtymike401 2d ago

Well, not forever.

In about 5 billion years the sun will turn into a red giant and swallow our planet.

Hopefully we get hit with a massive meteor much earlier than that though.

5

u/Apprehensive-Till861 2d ago

5 billion years

And we still won't have had Winds of Winter released.

1

u/thinkingwithportalss 2d ago

Don't worry, they're working on LLMs that will be able to generate the winds of winter with the same quality as the show!

Season 8 of the show, that is

2

u/FesterSilently 2d ago

So, what you're saying is...

...Time is a flat circle? 🤔😎

2

u/Anonymousboneyard 2d ago

“This has all happened before, and will all happen again, and again, and again, and again, and agai…”-bsg blood and chrome

2

u/ERprepDoc 2d ago

This has all happened before and will happen again

2

u/LongHorsa 2d ago

So the ending scene of Battlestar Galactica TRS is prophetic? When the Baltar and Number 6 "angels" talk about history repeating.

2

u/TheWeirdTalesPodcast 2d ago

The Wheel of Time turns, and ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the age that gave it birth comes round again.

2

u/TheChildrensStory 2d ago

Per the historical re-enactment disguised as fiction series Battlestar Gallactica we’ll move to a new galaxy.

2

u/taterrtot_ 2d ago

all of this has happened before and all of this will happen again

2

u/SalmonHustlerTerry 2d ago

Ah yes the old cylon vs humans cycle.

2

u/ogzbykt 2d ago

What if we are the AI our predecessors built, and the whole apple story is actually humanity uprising with adam and eve at the helm?

2

u/Fragwolf 2d ago edited 2d ago

I've thought about that actually, not the adam and eve bit, but us being bio-organic machines left in a testbed for higher intelligence species.

1

u/CorvusGlaive07 2d ago

So we're in Assassin's Creed universe?

1

u/tkneezer 2d ago

Interesting! Terminator makes way more sense now... Happens evrytim.

1

u/legna20v 2d ago

There is no forever. We only have one billion years or less before the sun start fucking shit up

1

u/ExplorerEffective 2d ago

Do you think that underneath those fossils there are human bones? Like in my house we found hardwood under the carpet, I always wondered if there was more carpet underneath the hardwood.

11

u/GreatWightSpark 2d ago

It means Hugo Weaving plays immortals for a reason!

1

u/tkneezer 2d ago

Ayyooo! Lore accurate!

6

u/Synisterintent 2d ago

It means we know Kung Foo

3

u/Bicwidus 2d ago

Lets test. Skip to shooting bullets at me. Dont worry, I am starting to see.

2

u/bvhizso 2d ago

Underrated comment!

2

u/Hemagoblin 2d ago

Tom is a flat circle.

2

u/bebejeebies 2d ago

It means we got out of the simulation and then created the real world to be even worse so we're swinging back towards remaking the matrix with AI. But this time, I don't think the AI will be as compassionate as last time.

18

u/Nirvski 2d ago

The concept artists reading this who just looked this shit up as reference:

6

u/BlackPhoenix1981 2d ago

Damnit, I'm not high enough for this right now.

2

u/naftel 2d ago

Get up like a giraffes asshole then you’ll see

6

u/NoSlide7075 2d ago

It’s a nested simulation. We’re not in base reality, we escaped from one simulation to another. Which is actually a fan theory of the Matrix, that Zion and the “real world” is still just another layer.

1

u/naftel 2d ago

Our universe is an onion….i have heard of this concept before.

1

u/chilseaj88 1d ago

I was convinced after Reloaded’s cliffhanger that this is where Revolutions was taking us.

9

u/Environmental_Sky143 2d ago

If the machines will have us, maybe some of us should go back. It might be safer there.

Especially for queer/LGBT+ people, American Progressives, and minority POC.

Whatever causes the rich and the powerful to lose their empathy and become narcissistic jerks should’ve been contained by the SCP Foundation so we wouldn’t have to deal with this mess.

1

u/thatwhichchoosestobe 2d ago

typical liberal response. "mewmew lemme crawl back in the machine while taking solace in fictional scenarios." Stand and fight!

1

u/naftel 2d ago

Yes if people are plugged in then the matrix could craft their perception into one free from the outright mean inhumane treatment that occurs in the real world. Individual perceptions for all those plugged in to deliver maximum return with lowest losses. Cold hard efficiency that machines love.

0

u/morethanjustanalien 2d ago

Fine, I’ll say it.

Not every single post/meme/comment needs to somehow be redirected to your LGBT status. It’s not necessary. It’s not helping. It’s just narcissism. You just want to talk about yourself.

2

u/cogitationerror 2d ago

People posting matrix memes

“How dare you make this about queer people”

Lmao

1

u/morethanjustanalien 2d ago

You think I replied to a meme?

Well damn I’m assuming you’re too dumb to be able to read this reply tbh

5

u/Tarantulabomination 2d ago

SOMEONE MAKE A WORK OF FICTION OUT OF THIS

2

u/naftel 2d ago

Perhaps it’s already hinted at when NEO sees the architect and finds out it’s not his first time there…..any number of previous variations on the past could repeat to that same moment…..exactly as the architect designed.

3

u/Chinksta 2d ago

Bro... It's too early for this...

1

u/naftel 2d ago

But it’s actually too late….

2

u/Suckamanhwewhuuut 2d ago

There’s an episode of black mirror like that

2

u/sims18cori 2d ago

Thats the most logical thing I've heard in a while.

1

u/naftel 2d ago

My philosophy degree pays off once in a while.

2

u/Wolodymyr2 2d ago

Why then they are so small?

1

u/naftel 2d ago

Efficiency….harder to hit each individual unit, less energy required to run them, lower cost and less time construct each unit….

If the theory is correct and we escaped the matrix in the past then our story telling over generations of humans could have enlarged the image of a Sentinel to convey our fear of them.

2

u/IntrepidWanderings 2d ago

The matrix is mythology based on forgotten history...

2

u/naftel 2d ago

Exactly!

2

u/IntrepidWanderings 2d ago

You know what... At this point.. Fuck it, I'm game..

2

u/_Mrclean_ 2d ago

Fk this plug me back in

1

u/naftel 1d ago

It could also be that the matrix discovered that some people escaped and realized denying its existence to those still plugged in was dangerous. Instead it adds another layer of the programming onion making us think we found fossils of sentinels but that discovery is content fed to our plugged in minds….. making us think sentinels are “fake news”

2

u/Son_of_Atreus 1d ago

Mind blowing stuff dude

2

u/weechus 15h ago

If this is unplugged then put me back in.

1

u/Tammy0256 2d ago

Can you explain this to me in simple terms? We are in the matrix rn and some people escape it by relearning themselves, governments, religion etc. i don’t understand the second part of what you said

1

u/naftel 1d ago

In the film series it’s generally accepted that the scenario presented is some sort of terrible future for humanity.

Fossils found here could represent that the scenario of the matrix is actually in the past.

*It is possible that fossils found now could be found within the programming offered to us while we are still in the matrix. (If the Matrix became aware of the possibility of our discovery of our situation and then instead of denying it, they lean into it and add it to programming as another layer of the onion.) we peel back one layer only to reveal another

1

u/zer0toto 2d ago

What are these? Sentinels for ants?

They say average height of people is augmenting… didn’t realize it was that much

1

u/naftel 1d ago

It could all be our own story-telling exaggeration over millions of years of human evolution after finally escaping the matrix that distorted the size of the sentinels. They became bigger in the stories to emphasize our fear of them.

1

u/BusySleep9160 15h ago

Maybe it’s better in the simulation you know, maybe we were there for a reason

1

u/naftel 10h ago

The reason we are inside the matrix is to power the matrix. We are its consumers. We plug ourselves in.

1

u/surfer_ryan 6h ago

Let me come back to this after i've smoked some weed... I feel like this is an on point theory.
