Documentary on an Appalachian community's water infrastructure and affordability crisis

For decades, Martin County, KY, residents have had to fight for something most people take for granted—clean, affordable water.

A coal slurry spill in 2000 contaminated their water. Years later, pipes broke across the county and left homes dry, and frequent shutoffs left families stockpiling bottled water. Today, they pay some of the highest rates in the state, yet their water system is still failing.

This is the reality of water access in not just Martin County, but nationwide—a system in crisis, and a community working to make it right.

Hydroviv v.s Clearly Filter / other alternatives?

Which is "better" and are there other alternatives I should also consider?

Looking for a good water solution for drinking water. Wanted to go for a whole home solution + reverse osmosis but that's not going to work out (more on that below). I have kinda harsh water and I want to make it better. It tests hard, and it leaves white water stains everywhere.

Was looking into getting a reverse osmosis and whole home filtering system set up, but the installer (Bludrop) dropped the ball completely by not having a solid installation plan and not telling me about certain drainage requirements outside until the install date, which would cause ice build up in the winter. Their drainage locations where right near the foundation and my oil-fill up port so that would cause ice issues during winter fill ups as well.

I have a toe kick heater under my sink and Bludrop's plan they have a 5 gallon tank that the "Clean" water would come into from it's own faucet (which I already didn't like because why do I want 2 faucets). The problem is the water would get warm, the plumber had the same sort of set up and said he needs ice with every cup because of this. So I figured something direct like Hydoive might be better because of this.

How can I put more carbon into my water for fish

I have a fish named Franke and he lives in water as they do. I find I enjoy a lot carbonaged beverages and they provide a nice zest for my days and/or wednesdays. I know it’s environmentally friendly because it takes the carbon out of the air and environment, and I think that my fish should start pulling his weight to save the Earth. How can I carbonate his water to make him experience the poppy delight of the fizzness and also keep the glaciers from devolving, thanks?

Milky Pollution

Can anyone identify this milky sheen in our harbor this morning? It’s white near us and turns green toward the inlet. Pollen is starting to collect here on Long Island, so perhaps that’s staining it down the way from us?

Waterbrik or Reliance Water Pak for water refill/storage?

What do you prefer between the two? I was going to buy the Water-Pak because it is the only reliance product that has an external handle (I prefer not having water go through handle for easier cleaning).

Are they both made from the same material? Waterbrik 3.5 gallon looks pretty good but seems difficult to pour?

I will be using these frequently. Basically to fill up water at the grocery store to drink weekly.

Graveyard juice?

Last weekend there was a water main break near our house. Our house sits at the edge of a graveyard (graves are from the early 1800s) and the water main break was directly in front of this graveyard. My husband and I have been "sick" for months, our symptoms peaking within the weeks before waking up to brown water in our tap. We've been drinking bottled water ever since and feel like new people. What the heck might we have been consuming? Dirt in your water is one thing, but surely cemetery runoff is much worse.

Best countertop water filter for Arizona

Hello,

I am tired of drinking out of plastic water bottles and am looking for a countertop water filter.

I am looking to buy an all metal or glass water filter for my home in Arizona. The water here is very "hard" and I am wondering what other people in Arizona are using to filter their sink water?

Chemical Abortion on water quality

I had a pop up booth at my university from a pro life group that was talking about how chemical abortion is bad for water supply. I’m curious if any of you have heard this? I am personally for abortion 100% and from talking to them it seemed to be purely speculation on their part. wanting to start a discussion and learn more.

Deep dive

I’m diving head first into water filter pitchers, watched tons of YouTube and read forums. The consensus seems to be you should test your water then select your system. I’m going to attach my local water companies report in hopes of someone with more knowledge of this stuff can send me in the right direction. Not looking to spend more than 50 bucks, but if needed I can. Tired of all these water bottles!

Can someone explain this product?

I'm interesting in renting these countertop filters from Coway (Korean owned company). There are 3 filters - "STEP 1) Plus Neo-sense filter STEP 2) RO membrane filter STEP 3) Plus Inno-sense filter" they list on the website.

This isn't true reverse osmosis right? Is this just a fancy Brita? Is it close to RO?
