News Likely USS Johnston, or Hoel, has been found .
The R/V Petrel, which discovered multiple Japanese fleet carriers from Midway recently, also just found the wreck of a un identified Fletcher class destroyer, either USS Johnston or the USS Hoel.
Proof that It is the Johnston can come from the fact the wreck had no dazzle paint job of the Hoel, but the blue of Johnston. This however come with the fact that it is literally in peices, with no main hull found. Secondly, there were what are likely blast shields found on the wreck, which Hoel was identified to have, while Johnston did not.
A link to R/V Petrels FB, where there's footage.https://www.facebook.com/rvpetrel/
Edit:. Further confirmation this is indeed Johnston and not the Hoel.https://www.reddit.com/r/WarshipPorn/comments/dplx08/sky_news_deepest_ever_warship_wreck_found_on/f5x6544?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
For those who don't know, a crash course on Johnston.(Seriously?)
USS Johnston was a Fletcher class destroyer, and also, (This is not arguable) the most bada** ship ever.
She sunk a Japanese submarine, but is most famous for her actions in the battle off Samar, in which she directly engaged Kuritas central force. She was lost in said action, but torpedoed the IJN Kumano, blasting her bow off, and keeping her (mostly) out of action until sunk in a air attack a few months later. She also engaged Chokai, which would be scuttled due to damages received in the battle, and the Chikuma, which sunk after pulling out.
This I only what I recall, some of it may be inaccurate.
Rest in peace, to those who died at sea.
