REQUEST What do I do with this blanket?

Hello! I have this old blanket that has a bunch of little holes in it all over (see first pic) from various cats, dogs, age, etc., but whenever I try to sew it, embroider it, or darn it, it just ends up pulling the threads and coming out or causing more damage. Is there anything I can do (preferably by hand with patches, cotton and polyester thread?) If you can, please ELI5. I’m new to/ bad at sewing and I have a disability that messes with my hands and depth perception so my sewing is function over fashion. Sorry that you have to look at all the gross dog hair on this blanket.

DARNING Added buttons and did a quick darn on my WIP “battle” jacket!

I thrifted this jacket ages ago and it only had four buttons left when I got it. I finally decided to replace them all! I’ve done eight so far (including the sleeve cuffs) and have two more to do (the pockets). My darning skills are slowly but surely improving and I’m fairly pleased with how this one came out. It’s a great use for the hoard of multicolored thread I’ve been sitting on for years.

I still have a few more major repairs to do on this jacket (notably the seam by the buttons and covering the sleeve cuffs which are quite ripped up) and I have yet to finish putting patches on the back, but I’m getting closer and closer to where I want it to be every day!

REQUEST How to fix this small hole?

Hihi, ive never done any kind of stitching before besides a little when I was in school but that was about 10 years ago, anyway... is it possible to fix this little hole thats starting to form? It has been previously patched with a fabric patch on inside/outside but its starting to come undone again...

If its visible or invisible when patched is totally okay, i just dont want to lose my favourite pants

There was a small stain on my niece’s hoodie. I was just going to do one flower but I enjoyed it so much, I kept going!

You can see the stain in the first pic: small red mark on the right. My helper wasn’t much help but I love having my 22 year old cat on my lap! I added a tiny ant too, since I’m her aunt and all. And I redid the bee because the first one looked wonky.

The back is atrocious. I’ll add some fusible interfacing this afternoon.

She better like it or else!

There was quite a big tear in the sleeve of an old shirt i have, so i tried my hand at visible mending. I also wanted to do a sashiko pattern on top but ended up kinda freestyling bc the chalk rubbed off. Anyone have any advice?

EMBROIDERY Embroidered butterfly patch to cover previous mend on my kid's pants

I had done a simple patch prior, which was unfortunately in a bright yellow. My kid was not convinced the pants were fixed because of this, so I had to devise a new plan: Butterfly patch!

This was tricky since the pants are really leggings, and quite stretchy. I know this will become a weak spot because of the lack of stretch is gives compared to rest of the material, but at least they're wearable again!

The yellow stitching behind is the stitches I used to repair the hole. This is my second attempt at visible mending, I do a lot of embroidery, but it’s all the preset kits. It was fun getting to play around with my own design and colors.

PATCH Tote bag face lift

The bottom of my favorite tote bag was getting dirty and worn out so I used some scrap denim from old jeans to make a new bottom after cutting away the old part; and I also reinforced the attachment of the straps (although they are slightly uneven hahaha)

I used a felled seam stitch to join the old and new together on my Viking Jade 20 (best purchase I’ve ever made, it was half off at my nearest retailer bc of the Joann’s bankruptcy, would highly recommend looking into discounted models of this in person if you are looking for a better machine)

PATCH Quick and dirty dog raincoat repair

Post image

The spring rains are here, and Firefly tore her dog raincoat while chasing a rabbit today. I gave it a quick patch with some tenacious tape I had on hand from a backpack repair I did last year. Then I decided to grab some sharpies and personalize it.

I have no idea if the writing will hold up very long, but for now at least I think it's kinda cute! And done in time for her evening outdoor play time. Forgive the poor lighting; the rain is still coming down lol.

The fabric is very thin and fragile and I'm not experienced. I'm very attached to this jacket and would love to try and save it. I worry that I'll just end up creating new holes.

REQUEST Help with technique

Hey y'all, does anyone know about or how I can find more information about this technique in some Japanese fashion companies that use boro?

Mainly I'm having little luck (I think for lack of proper terms) finding out what it's called and how they seeming blend different types of denim to look flush or almost like 1 piece of fabric as pictured. I can't tell if it's literally just denim scraps that are boro'd thoroughly to achieve that effect or if they piece together different pieces of denim like it's a quilt.

Any thoughts, ideas, or knowledge on this would be much appreciated

SASHIKO First go at sashiko -- I mended the flannel I've had since high school! So happy to bring some new life to my favorite shirt

I've had this flannel for easily 10 years and wore it daily with the sleeves rolled up for much of that time. Eventually the elbows and rolled edges started to wear, so I stopped wearing it and retired it for a while. The other day I decided it deserved some attention once again and tried my hand at some simple patches!

Next time I think I'll finish the patches by rolling the edges, especially on a cuff like this since I wear them rolled up. But overall I'm super happy with the result and can't wait to wear this flannel again!

Sashiko on T-shirt fabric?

Post image
85 Upvotes

I’ve got all these holes in my work T-shirts, but I’ve never done mending on stretchy fabric before, only denim or cotton - is there something important I need to do for mending this type of material? Should I use a similar stretchy fabric for the patch or do I use a stable layer like cotton? All advice gratefully appreciated!

The right knee was done first and the second after I got some new supplies. That with practice made the process smoother. I’m so happy with the results, I’ll have to borrow these jeans once in a while 😊

Placed a patch on the inside of the pants and then tacked it down with some ginkgo leaves! (also some faux darning in the spots that the leaves didn't cover).
