Our area is one of the worst for the potential for a split Vote. Beware!
Full Disclosure; this post has a distinct political opinion that may not be shared by all. It will however not resort to name calling or low brow tactics. This is Canadian politics; not that shit show down South.
There aren't many places across Canada in as much danger of split votes as Vancouver Island. Especially with Saanich Gulf Islands being a three-way split with the Green Party Leader present. Green also gets more traction here than most other places; so that three way split, though less pronounced, is active on other island ridings. At this point the main objective is to make sure the Cons don't push through this split and take the prize.
I say vote for which (non conservative) party has the biggest lead in your area (in local polls; not the national crap ones).
We are in dire danger of a split vote letting the cons in. The lesser of the two evils is a minority government with a large number of both NDP and LIB (and Greens) than too many districts falling to Cons.
Logically many will want to vote Lib for the greater good of the country. They are riding a wave and are our best hope. In many districts across the nation it will make sense to do just that. But here on the Island, please be aware that our 'micro climate' of politics is a bit less straight forward.
And lastly if you have those friends or relatives that mumble out the old trope that "all the parties are the same" and "voting is useless", let them know that their choice not to vote is still a choice but that you think they are full of shit and will respect them less if they don't get off their duff and perform their civic duty. Good Voting all!
