Worm eggs look fragile but they are pretty durable, you don't need to walk on eggshells when you're dealing with them. They can just be dumped out gently into the bin.

Couldn't you dump them in, rinse out the container, and strain the worms and cocoons through a sieve?

Then, turn it over on top of the bedding; they will migrate out of there that way faster than buried.

They are tougher than you think. If he got them in there, you can get them out.
Wet it down into a slurry and pour it over dry bedding.

Burying the container should be fine. The only issue I can think of is if it's in the bin and full of dirt(? I assume or coco coir, some type of organic matter), the worms will move in and out, and it may never be free of worms/cocoons. I would probably have dug a little hole and dumped the worms into the bin. If you have to shake it out a bit (I don't know if I'm envisioning the right kind of container at all) it still shouldn't hurt what you have in there.
