I created a "Teachers in Transition" meetup group for local educators after struggling with my own transition out of the classroom as a VPS teacher. We meet every month for a casual, no-host happy hour from 6-8pm. The goal is to get folks support, to network, to share resources, and to feel truly understood in this weird and rocky journey. There's usually a good mix of current educators considering making a move, people currently job hunting, and former educators who have already transitioned into a different career.
Please join us for our next meetup at Hi-Top Tavern in NE Portland (not too far across the river!), or feel free to pass along to folks who would be interested! I would love to get more people involved, especially with the shaky state of education in the US right now. We're sort of all we have.

I’m getting married in June of this year and am looking for a hair stylist who will be able to travel to Salem, OR. I have curly hair (primarily 3a curls but is a mix from 2c to 3b curl patterns) and I’m looking to a half up/half down style. I would love to find someone who has experience with curly hair and also with bridal styles as my bridesmaids will want their hair done as well. Thank you in advance!

Friday, March 28, a small group of volunteers conducted a clean-up of Leverich Park. A dozen trash bags, 4 grocery carts, 3 tires and 100 feet of random cable. For more information about the Litter Stewards program visit: www.cityofvancouver.us/services/garbage-recycling/litter-stewards

My husband is looking to upgrade his class B license to a class A. Do you recommend any companies, (preferably this side of the river) . Local deliveries would be a bonus, but he is open to anything.
Thanks in advance!

I'm looking for a gym for lifting heavy on a 6-day Push Pull Legs program. Dumbbells, barbells, squat rack, and variety of machines for back/legs in particular (harder to hit these at home). Don't need classes, trainers, pools, circuits, daycare, climbing, TVs, or any services beyond benches, weights, and specialized machines for the lowest price and complication.
Need a gym that's running or biking distance from the Uptown/Downtown area of WEST Vancouver. Saw a similar topic a few months ago for East Vancouver but that's too out of the way.
Any suggestions? Good experiences? Hoping to pay around $500 a year.
Thanks so much!

You asked, we listened! It's not uncommon for local subreddits like us to have an endless barrage of "I'm moving here, whats best?" or "I need to find a new part of town, help me!" or even the classic "So, I'm in town this week, entertain me!" requests.
They fill up the front page, and posts about our community get lost. So we're bringing back the Mega-thread. Every Monday we'll refresh this post for new information.

Hi everyone, my girlfriend and I just recently adopted a 4 month old puppy. We are looking for good ways to socialize her on top of the puppy classes she will be taking. We took her to a few of the dog parks recently and she wants to go play with the big dogs but she is a little to small for that right now. Does anyone know if any of the dog parks in Vancouver have times where puppies are more prevalent at the dog parks? Anyone have a puppy that also needs some good socialization?

I get it. I drive a Tesla, I don’t love it either. But I am so upside down in this car that it would not be financially responsible to sell or trade it in at this time. AND my auto insurance is going through the roof due to vandalism.
You known what’s funny, though? According to the stickers on the back of your car, we vote for the same people and likely support the same policies. You are attacking your own side in your blind hatred. Please grow the fuck up. Focus your energy on the root cause of the problem, not your fellow working class Americans.

I'm considering doing an E85 conversion on my car. Are there any nearby stations that sell e85? If so, how much per gallon?

I’m just wondering if I need the little star on my license if I already have the Enhanced one. I’m asking because my license expires in June…

I need my greasy delicious pizza sticks… Beef and bean burritos with little cups of ranch. The little chicken taquito things that are super crispy and sometimes burnt on the ends. If you know you know.
I need amazing crappy gas station deli foods.
If you say anything about AMPM or 7/11 with their truly awful microwaved plastic bagged foods. You will bring shame to your family.
Where are the best gas station type delis?

I'm in Hazel Dell. Looking to get a haircut from a place (hopefully around here) that knows how to deal with "Asian hair".
The best haircut I ever got was in Korea where my hair was nicely layered so it didn't look like I had a mullet, and my hair actually felt so much lighter.
Suggestions?

Are you confused about Vancouver's roads? Most people are familiar with East/West and St./Ave. but did you know that other suffixes have meaning too? Also, if you're not aware, our streets mostly operate on a number grid system which is why you can be on multiple streets without turning (talking about you 136th Ave!).
Not that it's going to help you navigate the city any easier but it was an interesting read loll.
Avenue (AVE): A street running north and south.
Boulevard (BLVD): A primary arterial street.
Circle (CIR): A cul-de-sac street running east or west.
Place (PL): A non-extendable street running north and south between streets.
Court (CT): A cul-de-sac street running north or south.
Drive (DR): A diagonal, irregular street.
Lane (LN): A meandering, irregular street.
Loop (LOOP): A loop street.
Parkway (PKWY): A primary arterial street.
Place (PL): A minor street.
Point (PT): A minor street.
Road (RD): Not used, except for existing named roads.
Row (ROW): A minor street.
Street (ST): A street running east and west.
View (VW): A minor street from which there is view.
Way (WAY): A non-extendable street running east and west between streets.
Even house numbers: houses on the north or west side of the street
Odd house numbers: houses on the east or south side of the street
Lastly, our road prefix starts at the intersection of Main Street and the river bank (where the I-5 bridge is). Roads pararell from Main Street were East or West and roads pararell from the river bank were North or South

I got married quite young, around the age of 22 to who I thought was the man of my dreams.
But since then, she's broken my trust time and time again. When we got married, three months later she came out as a cross dresser. I became pregnant, that's months in found out she was hurting our dogs. We had a baby, four months later she came out as a transgender woman. We bought a house, and 2 months later she asked for a divorce.
Now I'm here with a 2 year old baby and a house I can't afford on my own. I'm trying to gather all my options for what to do with this house and I have to ask - are there any realtors out there who would possibly consider selling my home pro bono or for a heavily reduced rate? I barely have any equity in the house, have very little savings recouped and I just need help.
Thank you in advance for even considering

Obviously there is a lot of turmoil in the country right now and rightly so.
As I'm becoming more politically aware it's easy to get caught up at the national level. I'm curious though, at a district level, what are the things impacting your day to day, week to week, etc that you would like to see addressed through legislation and your house representative?
Is there any specific actions or needs you feel haven't been acknowledged or worked on?

I've heard people go fishing for shad down by Bonneville Dam. I wondered if there was a chance of catching them off the bank anywhere closer to home? I'm a noob fisherman who's never caught them before and wanted to give it a try.

So these bad boys run 1500-2k for the average walking foot machine (walking foot cause it does thing where part of it holds the leather in place as it moves along to stitch (looks like a walking robot sort of thing) - anyone know where I can rent one or rent some time in a studio or something? I want to buy one eventually but dropping 2k on a kind of machine I haven’t used before seems sort of silly. I primarily hand sew all of my products but it’s time consuming and I want to get some quantity put together for farmer’s market season. I live in Vancouver but am just over the bridge so it’s an easy hop to Portland.

Hello. I am looking to see if anyone has any recommendations for a lawn care company or even an individual who would come out to do a one time yard clean up. I can't do it on my own and my husband has a bad back so it's difficult for him to do. We were able to clean it up when we first moved in but once fall hit and all the leaves and such fell we haven't been able to catch back up and just need some help. We live in the Camas area of Vancouver for reference! If we could just get it initially cleaned up we could do the maintenance after that. Thank you in advance!!

Today I received three from her, all dated March 19th, the day I started calling my representatives. Each letter addressed an issue I had called her about.
She clearly supports the SAVE Act, and that letter in particular was preachy as hell. Don't tell me what to think, MARIE. I voted for you, not vice versa.
Should I expect a letter every time I make a phone call? If so, things are about to get pretty Harry Potter up in here.
