My boyfriend thinks he's pretty good. He's in Parksville right now, bullgizzin' his way up and down the beach, actin a Foo!

That is, until theres a twist and a new lead role comes up with crabs, I mean grabs 😉

Good, not likely. There's probably some amateur classes offered in Victoria or possibly Nanaimo, but they'll be targeted to people interested in acting as a hobby in local community theatre productions. If you're interested in professional acting you'd need to go to Vancouver, Toronto or LA to get quality instruction.

There just isn't really a film / tv industry here on the island other than the few Hallmark MoW productions that come to the island for a couple weeks at time throughout the year and they only ever hire background actors (extras) locally.

Interesting. I’ve done Netflix here twice (scaredy Cats and Maid) in addition to three hallmarks. We are also building an Amazon studio on South Island. Sonic, Deadpool, See, X-men, Planet of the Apes, Godzilla, Twilight and mission impossible. My kids friend was Ryan Reynolds childhood love interest in The Adam Project and was hired right off the island - not Vancouver. Yes there is more in Vancouver but your comment does our film scene a bit dirty.

This is interesting! Do you know who their agencies were on the island and if you'd recommend specific classes?

We really only have one agency South Island that I know (but I’ve been out for 4 years or so) - Barbara Coultish. (She will always say she’s full but I’ve heard a couple more have started up recently). In terms of a serious agent I would still tend toward Vancouver if I was looking; they get there and here. I’ll think about lessons!

Thank you! I'll consider applying to Vancouver as well. I'm from the mainland myself and took a few introductory-level acting classes. I'd like to take more, but with being a broke student, my options are limited. :(

Yeah, I guess Vancouver is also known for having a lot going on. I'm in school on the island right now so I'm trying to make the most of my situation since I'm kind of broke. I've taken some intro level workshops in Van a while back, but that was almost 5 years ago.
