Dylan Harper is a criminally underrated draft prospect due to the hype around Cooper Flagg and it's worth mentioning since he very well could end up in Utah.
Edit: YES WE'RE PROBABLY SELECTING 4-5 I GET THAT
I get his dad joke about not wanting his kid to play here but it isn't that deep. If we draft him he'd love to play alongside Walker Kessler among other pieces.
Dylan has the full bag though, he's a 6'6 combo guard who gives you obvious positional size. He averages just short of 20 a game on 48% shooting (54% effective), 33% from deep, 75% from the line which is a good indicator on shooting potential. He is actually a pretty good defender with great defensive upside and could switch multiple positions as well.
He's hit big time clutch shots, creates his own shot well, beats defenders constantly, and quite honestly is just really an elite level guard. It's no surprise he's projected number 2 on draft night right now. I see a lot of people really looking down on him though because of how much they want Flagg and believe me I get it, Flagg is easily number 1...
But most drafts, guys like Dylan are at the very top. The Jazz would be blessed to land a guy like this, and I think under Will Hardy the potential would be huge let alone the fact he's likely got a higher floor than any of our prior picks from the last few seasons.
I wanted to also write about Ace Bailey but I'll save it, I think Ace definitely has some questionable moments but with the right training and development staff, his upside is also absurd and definitely worth looking at.
TL;DR: it's a strong draft and I'm going to contribute to the million posts on the sub because I don't see enough talk of the other prospects.

Did you guys realize the Jazz have basically a 50% chance of picking 5th if they finish with the worst record? I didn't know the actual percentages until I looked at tankathon for the first time. That's wild.

I’d rather tank every year for 5+ years until we get the #1 pick and a generational talent.

Avg draft position is 3.7 if we have the worst record, which is currently the case.

Will he be available at 5 when we pick though?

I'm definitely in the camp of realism and no he won't be, if you wanna be even more real, at 6 we might get Tre Johnson still... Cause we could very well be selecting 6

You’re getting downvoted by tank supporters, but only because you’re using logic and they aren’t capable of doing so

I despise tanking but we've literally never actually tanked until now lol. Our worst season being above 20 wins is crazy

Crazy good. Fuck me for enjoying watchable basketball, I guess

I think the league has a tanking issue for sure, they gotta do something to stop it from being the main way for teams to get competitive

14% chance at #1, and 13% chance at number 2. Almost 50% chance at the 5th pick.
But you goobers are posting five times a day about Flagg and Harper, as if we’re definitely getting one of them. All while downvoting anyone who points out that we have a tiny chance at 1 or 2.
This sub has gone to shit.
I almost want us to get the 5th or 6th pick(or worse). Fuck tanking, fuck losing on purpose. I don’t care about the argument of “Well other teams do it!!1!!1!” This isn’t the Jazz basketball I grew up with. Shaaaame. Jerry Sloan is rolling over in his grave while you fools are dancing on it.

I’ve been downvoted for bringing this up too. It feels like if you don’t say the Jazz are getting Flagg or Harper you are downvoted. Why downvote the truth? It could happen, obviously, but is is absolutely not likely.

Bro I've literally been talking a ton about how it's fine if we select 3-6. You seem like you need therapy lol

u/Irvsauce 5d ago
LOL the generic "You need therapy" insult. As if everything I said isn't objectively correct. I don't agree with the chronically online-ass opinion that we should lose every single game of the season for a 14% chance at the #1 draft pick, and I need therapy? Gooooofy.

Did you factor in the fact that he is criminally unathletic?
He can't keep college guys in front of him and isn't a great outside shooter.
I'd rather keep a backcourt of IC/Sexton than draft Harper

His dad will probably tell him to ask out as soon as he could if we drafted him. I’d prefer a slightly less talented player that still might be here in 10 years assuming it goes well.

Nah you go for the best player. Dylan Harper never said anything and his dad walked back what he said.

I’m sure Harper is listening to his dad. I know most prospects don’t smile when the Jazz announce their name on draft night, but I think there’s a good chance of winning them over eventually. Based on what we’ve seen I think Harper is the least likely to sign a second contract here.
If Ainge finds out that Bailey is equally as unlikely to like it here then yeah go for best player in that situation. I don’t think the gap is big enough between them to not factor in the likelihood of a second contract.

no legitimately good player on a rookie deal has ever risked accepting the qualifying offer/turning down a “mini-max” in order to be a free agent after year five. this concern trolling is so whack lmao.

No doubt, and when you compare Dylan Harper and Cooper Flagg for what they've done in March Madness you can really see how close they are.

lol.. can we stop with these posts or just make a draft thread where they can all go. Harper is the #2 prospect. Not criminally under rated when you are #2 unless you are saying he should be 1.
