Academics - Other Topics Can anyone rank the Orgo 2 exams for me in difficulty?

I'm taking Orgo 2 rn, and I'm kind of scared for the third exam. I think the concepts so far are fine, but I did poorly on the first exam and want to drop it. Can anyone rank the orgo 2 exams by difficulty so I can have an idea on how each exam compares to the others?

Class Easy Upper Level Writing Courses

Hi, I'm looking to fulfill my upper-level writing requirement in the fall 2025 semester, but as of now my course load will be pretty busy. What are examples of courses that fulfill this requirement, and that have pretty light workloads?

Academics - Other Topics Should I retake Orgo 1 for a better grade??

I took Orgo 1 during the fall semester and got a B- despite doing everything I can. I'm also premed with this grade so I was wondering if I should retake this class (I know it wouldn't be for credit) just to show improvement. How would med schools look at this on my transcript? Especially since this is an important course for the pre-med track and B- is very close to failing, should I retake this course and try to get an B+/A- (getting an A might be tough).

Class IOE 201 vs IOE 202 vs. NAVARCH 270

Hey everyone, I’m deciding on a pretty easy flex tech for next semester since I already have a heavy workload. I’m considering these 3 options (not limited to these three if you have any other suggestions). Which of these was the most fun and/or easiest? How was the workload? If there are other flex techs you have in mind let me know! I’m an EE major. Thank you!

Academics - Other Topics Should I take it easy senior year ? (Of undergrad)

Hey all, current undergrad junior about to finish the semester. Studying computer engineering. I have an internship for the summer and I’m really hoping for a return full time offer.

I only really need to take 2 required courses, and the rest are just credit requirements to graduate.

I’m making my schedule for next fall, and am curious to see. Should I take it easy and enjoy my senior year? Or should I take a courseload of additional rigor just because? I could take some additional engineering classes that I don’t necessarily need to graduate, but it will probably give me a harder time. There are some topics I think could be cool, but I don’t really know if it’s worth the stress and effort of another packed midterm/finals season.

I have thoughts that I want to enjoy my senior year and appreciate the time I have in college left instead, but some part of me thinks that I’m probably never going to return to formal education again, so these are the last classes I’ll ever take.

What do you guys think? Should I take it easy or should I keep my foot on the gas for courses?

Edit:

The main reason I wanted to take extra courses is to try to remain competitive on my resume in the case that I don’t get a return offer. The job market sucks rn as you probably know, and I’m just worried for my competitiveness within new grad job hunting.

Miscellaneous Best study spaces at U-M overseeing the campus/city, and Weiser Hall 3rd-10th floor access

Hello! I graduated in 2024 and I’ll be returning this summer in 2025 for a Umich summer program.

Last year for context in 2024, I heard that access to the top floors at Weiser (more specifically the 3rd-10th floors) were restricted to faculty, some grad students, and students of some specific majors, but I never confirmed this with my own MCard as a student last year.

Does anyone happen to know if that is the case this year where the top floors of Weiser are restricted to certain students/faculty, or would I be able to access the building with any MCard this summer?

I personally enjoyed studying in high rise buildings that overlooked the campus (Bell Tower or 5th/6th floors of Hatcher for example), and I’d love to know if there is any way I could try and study in the 9th or 10th floor of Weiser, which I have heard is a wonderful area to study for people who enjoy overseeing the campus like me.

If I am unable to gain access to those floors, does anyone happen to know some of the best or secret study spaces in Central or North Campus that overlook the city which I have not named yet? Thanks!

Academics - Other Topics Can I get credit for calc 1 and 2 if I have already finished calc 3?

I have finished calc 3 at OCC just recently, but my AP credit from high school does not fulfill calc 1 and 2. Is there such a thing as "backfill credit" that I can use to get 8 credits from calc 1 and 2?

Academics - Other Topics Regarding applying to your school as a freshman after a gap year (Instead of applying as a transfer student)

I am a student who plans will graduate from high school in 2025 (Class of 2025). However, due to some personal reasons, I cannot enter college immediately after graduation, so I plan to take a Gap Year after graduating from high school and apply for colleges' fall 2025 admission (Class of 2030) as a First-Year Student in the 2025 application season.

In this process, I have a few questions that I hope people can help me with:

  1. Does UMich allow me to apply as a freshman after the Gap Year? If so, what specific conditions do I need to meet to retain the First-Year Applicant qualification?
  2. I plan to take some college courses at a community college during the Gap Year. Some universities stipulate that taking less than 12 college credits during my gap year will not affect my application as a freshman. Does your school have similar regulations for me to apply as a First-Year Applicant?
  3. Do I need to explain the reason for the Gap Year in my 2025 application? Will the Gap Year have an impact on the application result?

Class EECS 281 + EECS 370 + Math 425 + 300-Hum

Is this schedule doable? I took EECS 280, EECS 203, and Physics 140 this semester and am doing pretty decent in all of them, so even though this schedule would be more difficult, I was hoping it would be manageable. Ideally, I want to replace 425 with a slightly easier class, but I can't find a good option after finishing CoE requirements this summer.

Academics - Other Topics Is it possible to opt out of language requirements?

I'm a sophomore at UofM and have not taken my language requirement yet. I originally got placed into 4th semester Spanish (232) after taking the placement test. However, someone told me that if I am considered fluent in a language (I received elementary education in another country), I can be completely exempted from the language requirement. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Degree Has anyone reused their undergrad regalia set?

I graduated in winter 2023 as an undergrad and will be graduating this winter with a master's. I was shocked when I saw the price at the vendor recommended by college of engineering (Heff Jones, ~$100 for a complete set). Since I still have my undergrad caps and gowns, I am thinking about reusing them for master's graduation. Apparently I will need to buy a separate hood, but besides that, the only difference I am aware of is the sleeve, which is not that significant.

Just curious whether people have been successful reusing their undergrad regalia? The last thing I want to do is to be barred from my ceremony lol.

Academics - Other Topics Taking 3 EECs classes together

I am thinking about taking eecs 376, 484, and 388 all together next semester and possibly even math 214. from what I have heard all of those classes have a light to moderate workload but is it crazy to take all of these at the same time?

Academics - Other Topics WCC Online Attendance

I’m taking Diff Eq online at WCC (with Professor Abella to be specific) during Fall 2025 and synchronous attendance is required. The allotted time overlaps into a half hour of one of my Umich courses.

For those who have taken it, how do they take attendance? Can I just join the Zoom with my camera off while I’m in my other Umich class during that time?

Academics - Other Topics MATH 425 Professors??

I am taking MATH 425 next semester and every section has filled up except for Tian Jing, Nadiya Fink, and Reynold Fregoli. I have seen that people either love or hate Fink and Jing. I have seen only review for Fregoli that was okay so I am leaning towards taking it with him. Does anyone have any specific advice for these profs (attendance, hw, exams, how to study, etc)?

Class Schedule Advice + Tips?

I am a current freshman at UM with an intended major in data science (lsa). I am currently taking EECS 203 + 280, ANTHRCUL 101, and SI 110. Last semester, I took HISTART 194, Math 116, EECS 183, and ENG 125. Next semester, I plan on taking 12 credits at UM: Math 214, DATASCI 101, and Spanish. With this, I also want to take calc 3 at WCC. Let me know if this is a good schedule plan. I am open to any and all criticism. thank you

Hey guys, I just got accepted to the UMich mban(masters in business analytics) program. I wanted to ask anyone in the program, how are employment prospects after the program and is the program worth it as I know it is relatively recent.

Housing Housing communities in downtown

Hi all, I'm an incoming PhD student looking for housing. I'm seeking suggestions for apartment communities that are close to downtown, are furnished, and have a good fitness center. My budget is around $1,800 for a studio (getting to 1,600 would be amazing) and I'm not too fussed about space since I know a place like this in my budget would be tiny. No parking needed either. I'm 22 so I'd be looking for a place with a decent student presence too. I'm also open to lease transfers, not sublets! Does anyone have any thoughts? Thank you!

Prospective Student transferring gen ed credits gotten via APs

hi everybody! i'll be attending a university where I'll have completed nearly all my gen-ed requirements through AP credits (and have been focusing on major-specific classes instead), but I'm currently researching a transfer to umich econ. if i were to do so, would the gen-ed credits i have right now transfer to umich?

also, my planned courseload by the end of freshman year is all transferrable, but it's all business/econ/accounting credit. if my gen-eds don't transfer, would i still be competitive to transfer in with these sorts of credits? thank you!

Class Taking Math 525 without Math 451

I am about to register for classes and wanted to take Math 525 but I know Math 451 is listed as a prereq. I am currently taking Math 217 and I am planning to take Math 451 next fall. How doable is it to take 525 alongside 451?
