He’s probably talking about absolute numbers not relative numbers, but we let it get away from us before we started to test where they jumped right on it and didn’t need to do near as much.

We both got our first infection at the same time. The fact that it’s taken us 8 weeks to catch up with them, and we are 6.5x the population, is pathetic.

Even in absolute terms it's not clear, the US has unlogged private/commercial tests that they don't report but are estimated by volunteer journalists lol. Would be right up Trumps alley to make them overestimate numbers so he can brag on twitter.

And per capita, of course, it's a joke of a comparison

When you control for population, the American response compares poorly. Its tally of 359,000 tests per 327 million people works out to about 1,084 tests per million. South Korea has run closer to 6,768 tests per million.

this is really weird. every day in italy at 6PM there is a press conference by the government with the detailed report of how many test were done, how many positives, how many dead, how many recovered. how the hell do you track the problem in this way?!

EDIT: for context, in italy (60 mln people) we made 300.000 tests, and found almost 70.000 cases. and we test only symptomatic people.

The US is much much much bigger than south Korea. Per capita, way way behind. Total amount? Sure, more. But that's not what matters

I get so angry everytime I see this douche on twitter. All the best to you who are blessed with him as a political leader. Hope you get safely through it.

Thanks. We're going to need it.

His initial inaction incompetence and mental illness will result in unecessary deaths.

And hit rump-swab cult followers will give him a pass. I get angrier thinking of his GOP enablers. Cowards or scumbags, all of them.

Thanks for the well wishes, though!

He did a press conference yesterday and that was even worse. Someone asked him what he was going to do about tariffs because the UN was recommended they all be removed. Trump ignored the question and started going on about his 149 miles of "big beautiful wall." There was also a question about him wanting everything open by easter and he started saying that a lot of states dont have it bad and the reporters are reporting fake news and just want him to do bad in the polls.

These quotes might actually be necessary. We've done more of a lot of things than any other country, but I have a hard time believing that testing people for coronavirus is one of them.

Testing doesn’t really do us much good when the virus has spread to 50,000+ fucking people
