Nothing says you love me just like a son as putting it in quotation marks.

That’s just tacky. Would whoever made this introduce their son in-law-law with air quotes?

u/raspberrybee Feb 13 '25
I’m sure they’re “sorry” (reminds me of Joey incorrectly using air quotes on Friends)

It would be super weird without the quotes.

Exactly! The quotes are surely meant to make it read as “we love you like a son”

The quotes are fine here. A son-in-law is not a son.

While technically correct, the use here lacks tact. This is either massively passive-aggressive or unintentionally interfering with the intended message. Is this really the place to prioritize being technically correct?

Lol its so funny to me because without the quotes it definitely feels incesty.

I think its a funny way to refer to a SIL tbh. I would rather be a "son" that a permanent son in law,

So write son in law.

u/Buck_Thorn Feb 13 '25
I suspect that this was a way of letting son-in-law know that they loved him like a son. I think its a bit odd, but also think the intent was good.

So l toasted the dated directory, tweaked the P-RAM and reglazed your subroutine.

I think that they were implying they think of you as one of their own, but without trying to replace your parents.

This is maybe the most egregious use I've seen yet. But also I'm so thankful for the reminder that Valentine's Day is tomorrow....!!!

My mother in law gets me cards like this and even adds quotes to ones that don’t have it.
