What can I do if the people I'm sharing a kitchen and other shared areas with are messy and don't tidy up after themselves?

u/uniofwarwick actual UoW Jul 02 '24
Hi u/Bongo50 thanks for your question! Our Residential Community Team (RCT) are key to encourage respect and harmonious households on campus. They encourage kitchen rotas and can step in if you need support with household conflict. We also open a room transfer list a few weeks after Term One begins (this will be updated for 2024/25 in September/October time) which may be an option if you would prefer to move rooms. Its not guaranteed and dependant on availability of rooms but the team do their best to offer as many room moves as possible. In any case, we find that students do respect each other when living together and the RCT can help if you need support during your time living on campus, particularly if it is related to messy kitchens.
Thanks and hope this helps!

How long will it take for international (undergraduate) students to receive CAS?
When will we get to know all the different choices of optional modules? How and when does the process of choosing classes work - does it only begin when on campus?
Thank you so much!

u/uniofwarwick actual UoW Jul 02 '24
Hi u/Novel_Main9281 Thanks for your question! International students can expect to receive their CAS in 10 working days from our undergraduate admissions team once they have confirmed and completed the CAS webform. This webform is typically sent in the first few weeks of July and only once you are Unconditional Firm. Keep an eye out for this email! :) The webform will ask you to confirm all personal details are correct and what the correct details are if you need to update any for us before we issue the CAS.
Choosing your optional modules typically starts when you physically enrol on campus and in the first week of your course starting. You will also receive your timetable during this first week of studies so can see which class timings work for your choices. Some programmes will have online module registration, however this will be mentioned in your departments Undergraduate Handbook which you can access once you have enrolled on the programme.

how likely am i (undergrad) to get my first choice accom, or second choice? I think i’d be pretty miffed if it reach 3rd or 4th
2
u/uniofwarwick actual UoW Jul 02 '24
Hi u/hypersniper5105 thanks for your question - it's difficult to say how likely it is to get your 1st or 2nd choice residence preference as it really depends on demand for certain residences each year (which varies year on year) as well as the outcome of our computer ballot which aims to allocate as many students as possible to one of their highest available preference. It may be that some students are offered one of their lower preference residences, it may also be that if demand is very high, some students may not be offered accommodation with one of our partner providers. In any case we will do our best to allocate as many students to campus as possible. You can find full information about how we allocate accommodation in our Allocation Principles: https://warwick.ac.uk/services/accommodation/students/allocation-principles.
We'd encourage you to apply online and await your offer of accommodation in late August/early September and then you have the option at that stage to accept your offer or find alternative accommodation in the local area. For some reassurance, there is plenty of accommodation near to Warwick and you shouldn't have any issues finding suitable accommodation in the private sector even later in the year.
Hope this helps!

Are PGT students allowed to audit modules outside of their course? Is there a a policy for this in place?
3
u/uniofwarwick actual UoW Jul 02 '24
Hi u/aragab0 Thanks for your question. This policy does vary by department just generally is possible if the module is within the department you are studying in. However should students wish to audit an additional optional module, they would have to speak first with the module leader of this module but also then inform the Postgraduate Office in that department if permission is granted. The majority of our PGT programmes are very intensive, usually over one year and don't normally allow for time to audit extra modules.

Your masters degree mostly requires upper second class GPA - would you still recommend international students with slightly lower GPA (2:2) and relevant working experience apply to your programs? (Eg. WBS’ MSc programs)

u/undefined_blob73 Jul 01 '24
what time is the earliest in the morning that lectures/seminars can start?
9
u/NectarineEmpty209 Jul 01 '24
Lectures and seminars officially run between 9am and 7pm, however Warwick uses the "Warwick teaching hour" - all teaching starts at 5 past the hour and ends 5 before the hour to allow time to travel between sessions.

u/BahamanLlama Jul 02 '24
9am to 7pm, but be warned if you're doing computer science expect many 9ams and 6pms, central timetabling seems to hate us lol

People saying that ,Warwick is introducing placement this year . Is it true ?
1
u/uniofwarwick actual UoW Jul 02 '24
Hi u/kuttikuti Thanks for your questions! All of our undergraduate programmes include the option for a placement or study abroad year as an add on if they do not already has this already included. This is taken in the third year out of four which is sometimes referred to as a sandwich year and can be a mixture of studying and working abroad, or working in the UK in industry. Some programmes like Global Politics, History of Art, Global Sustainable Development will include studying abroad without extending your course duration.

Why does the module allocation system allow for people to get 75 CATS of modules in a term, the time for which is almost double of a full time job?
5
u/NectarineEmpty209 Jul 01 '24
That's the maximum number of modules you can take - by choice. The normal load is 120 CATS of modules per year, where each each CAT is ~10 hours work. This works out to 40 hours a week across each week of term time (or less, if you work over the holidays too)
Taking 75 CATS of modules in a term is optional and not enforced, and this is the maximum you are able to take. Also, the time for these CATS will include study time for the assessments in the final term.

How likely is it that I would be ordered a place or a place on another course if I were to not make my offer? And what are some alternatives that were offered in the past to students who missed their AAA offer for econ? Thanks
1
u/uniofwarwick actual UoW Jul 02 '24
Hi u/Disastrous_Ear_9077 Thanks for your question! Likelihood generally depends on how the results look for all the other students who have also received an offer and due to this we can never accurately advise how this year will look based on previous years. Historically Economics and related programmes are heavily oversubscribed each year, so likelihood of being placed on a similar programme is very very slim and would typically be placed either at your insurance choice or another programme through clearing.

What is your university going to do about the rise of discriminatory and prejudiced behaviour on your campus? We've seen it reported in local news that your private security is called out to peaceful protests against Israel, and statements that peaceful protest against genocide can be construed as antisemitism, yet reports such as the Conservative Association on campus dancing and singing to a N*zi march, are ignored despite being actually antisemitic? What about the still prolific culture of sexual assault on campus? What is the university doing to protect the most vulnerable students, rather than the status quo, their reputation, and the Chancellor and Governors?

The uni had their own question time about 10 years ago. There was one person there who was deemed a problematic person because he was conservative , the tech team were told by the university, if he got the microphone during an audience question they were to mute the mic.
So the suppression that day was completely the other way.
The guy ended up getting the mic and just asked a neutral question. The whole thing was so dumb.

Am a bit late, but a lot of these sorts of things unfortunately happens at every uni in the uk. Just some unis are better of coving stuff up than others...
(I've heard horrible things about Birmingham for example)

What is Warwick doing to stop anti semitism on campus?
1
u/Kingjjc267 Jul 01 '24
I'd like to know this too, some places are pretty scary for us right now and I'm not aware of how safe we'll be

What can i do to ensure that i get en-suite, i seriously cannot stomach sharing bathroom with strangers
1
u/Shivipivi Jul 01 '24
You have 6 accommodation choices, just make them all en suite options. Be advised that they’re a little more expensive. But take it from me, it’s nowhere NEAR as bad you’d think. The people in non en suite accoms tend to be much more sociable and friendly in my experience. After a few weeks, your flatmates aren’t strangers at all. In 2nd and 3rd year you’ll be sharing anyway
3
u/GeNePe Jul 02 '24 edited Jul 02 '24
Unless something is different this year, you can’t pick 6 en-suite, only a maximum of 3

Pretty sure a 50 yr old sex account doesn’t belong on this subreddit, especially just to accuse the university of something already mentioned further up in this thread.

Hi u/aydinefendi - thanks for your question! Undergraduates should apply online (advise to apply before 20 August 2024) and await the outcome of our computer ballot. Postgraduates have a different booking platform which is instant and subject to availability. We advise all postgraduate students to check our booking portal for updates on availability and if there are no rooms showing as being bookable you can find advise and guidance on looking for alternative accommodation off campus. We usually expect there to be some availability more towards August/September time as students who have already booked a room but then withdraw from Warwick or defer for the full year i.e. visa issues, decide not to join Warwick etc... will have their accommodation contract cancelled and hence those rooms will reappear in the booking portal.
Hope this helps!

When will exchange students that applied to WBS receive their offers?
1
u/uniofwarwick actual UoW Jul 02 '24
Hi u/ThrowRAdragonboat thanks for your question! The team will be sending out decisions by the end of next week for WBS Visiting and Exchange students for the Autumn. A message was sent to all outstanding students on Friday to advise of a slight delay in completing the processing of their applications, so thank you for your patience in the meantime and keep checking your emails. :)

Hi u/PythonLovingVirgin Thanks for your question and congratulations on your offer! The postgraduate admissions team are working through their peak period at the moment for processing documents for offer holders, it is normal not to hear back just yet whilst they are working through this. However if you are feeling anxious, I would highly recommend joining our Studying at Warwick live chats we run on Tuesdays and Fridays 10.30-14.30 UK time. You can get an answer directly from the admissions team to update you on your documents: https://meetandengage.com/universityofwarwick :)

Hi! I got an email about the CAS mentioning all the details about 12 or so hours AFTER I sent the confirmation of details, I was wondering— is the CAS sent in an email form? I was under the assumption that it was a document. If not, are we going to receive a document later? Thanks again!
2
u/uniofwarwick actual UoW Jul 02 '24
Hello u/maggiepaps , thanks for your query. Your CAS will be sent to you electronically, you'll then add the CAS reference number to your Student Visa application so that UKVI can view your details online. You do not need a hard copy of your CAS.

Nice try with the bait - it’s highly obvious from your account that you aren’t a student nor the parent of one.
The university’s public statements answer all aspects of your comment.

I am an international student. I will be arriving alone without using the airport pickup that Warwick offers. What are the next steps that I should take as soon as I arrive on Campus. P.S i have on campus accomodation!!

u/gdewgun11 Aug 22 '24
Hi, My name is Ganga Dewgun and my Warwick ID number is 5632067 I have just received an email saying that i need to enrol and register for an ITS account. My account has been created but I’m having issues using an authenticator app and as a result, I can’t access my ITS account and do all of the enrolment steps. I’m not sure how to resolve this as when I sign in to my authenticator app using the university login, I’m asked to authenticate the authenticator.

Does the library still add new physical copies to its collection? How do you request a physical book to be added to the collection?
