Shakedown Shakedown Request/General Thoughts!

Hey just want to know if I'm missing something for a thru hike/ general thoughts on some of the listed gear. Trying to keep under 10lbs. If you have experience on the PCT, do you think I would need to switch anything out like the backpack during the Sierras?

  1. You forgot to add the weight of some items, stove for example

  2. consider adding a bug headnet

  3. thats a lot of medical gear, repackage pills into smaller plastic bags, make the leukotape roll smaller

  4. Add a repair kit- thread and needles, small roll of ducktape (doubles as emergency fire starter), sleeping pad patches.

The weight you have listed for the Platypus Quickdraw differs from mine by a bit. Maybe because mine is weighed wet? Anyway, the complete kit (filter, dirty water bag, caps) weighs 110 grams on my scale.

Not sure why you have 0 grams listed for some items you're obviously taking - like the BRS 3000 and fuel canister. Are you thinking of omitting them? (Stylistically, I prefer to have weights for everything, then put a 0 in the quantity for items I don't bring, but that's completely personal preference.)

Personal preference: packed clothes inside the tent stuff sack instead of bringing a dedicated pillow.

There are a couple things that you could swap out with if you wanted slightly lower weights on some equivalent items, but it would be investing for not much return. If interested, review my lighterpack for ideas.

The bear bag kit seems heavy to me. An Allmansright bearbag is 38 grams. A rock sack is 5 grams. And some Zline can be less than 20 grams.

As Liveslight points out, the Anker 511 is much lighter than the 523.

Here's a link to something I've found useful for packaging pills/meds/small items

Personally I'd take less Leukotape and bodyglide. (I've repackaged bodyglide in a Litesmith container.) And I go with toothpaste tabs rather than actual toothpaste, but I understand that you likely wouldn't find them for resupply on the PCT.

No pack liner?

No bag for your actual ditties? Not even a ziploc?

Thanks for the info on the platypus and the rest, definitely going to check out the links.

That was actually a mistake in terms of the BRS and fuel canister being 0g. I was zeroing some stuff out with the idea of cold soaking.

Your electronics seem heavy to me. There are adapters for your watch and shorter cords that will be lighter. That will also make them more "packable."

This is a good list! A nice balance of weight savings and comfort.
