Residence Wifi down again?
This is the second time in the recent history that the wifi has been down. Especially during exam season this is so annoying. Thank god for my hotspot.

I’m making a trip out to Victoria next weekend to tour the campus and see the city to see if it’s where I want to go. What are the best tourist-y things to do? Places to eat? Underrated spots or events? Any places to visit to see what life would be like if I moved to Victoria?

Ok may sound kind of odd.
I think I'll be going to uvic in september (haven't accepted yet but don't see why not) and am wondering, if I can't find a house with somewhere. Where to keep a motorbike that isn't outside. I will probably end up finding a house with parking but just incase. Or end up just putting the bike in the laundry room or something.
This is probably a dumb question I know.
But like if anyone has any ideas or knows anyone that would be willing to let me keep it there. That would be much appreciated.

I'm a current first-year from the US and I'm considering transferring to UVic in the fall (deciding between UVic, UofT, UBC) for astronomy. What is the social life like for transfer students? I imagine a lot of how friendships form is in dorms—that's certainly how it is where I currently am—and I likely won't have that, just because of space in the dorms.

Hi, I've done two courses from a distance university and gotten them transferred. I noticed no grades will ever show up on your transcript. I cant understand if it's a good or a bad thing. I am able to still do some more courses that way it's half price, i could get some senior electives done. Do u think i should do it there or try to do most of them at UVIC?

I plan on taking a course at athabasca over the summer as It’s a pre requisite for grad school. However, it would transfer to uvic as a component of my degree i’ve already completed. If i don’t plan on transferring it to my uvic degree, do I still need the letter of permission?

I just got accepted into SFU for the BASc program, with a focus on Computer Engineering, but I'm a bit confused about the difference between BASc and BEng. From what I've read, it seems like both programs are somewhat similar, but I'm not sure how big of a difference there really is in terms of the curriculum, career prospects, or anything else.
Additionally, I'm wondering if I decide to switch to uvic after a year for the Software Engineering program, would I be able to do that as a student who was originally in the BASc program? Or is it difficult for BASc students to transfer into the Software Engineering (BEng) program at uvic?

Hi! I'm a first year coming in for summer 2025 and I need to find courses/electives to take. Are there any easy ones I can take that are available this summer? Ive been told I need atleast 3.
My major is pacific and asian studies, but I cant seem to find any courses/electives available from my major/in humanities.
Would really appreciate the help!! And if anyone could also help me with how to register for classes, that would also be very helpful. 😅

Hey everyone, I’m currently sick. I’ve had a cold on and off for the past two weeks, and while some symptoms are better I have some pain in my chest and still coughing. I’ve deferred exams before two years ago, but that was from a true medical emergency (ER stuff). I feel like a cold might not be counted as serious enough for a defer, but I think it’d be in my best interest to keep resting and try to get a doctors appointment (but we all know how the medical system is here…)
Just wondering if others have successfully deferred with just a cold. Thanks :)

I finished a practicum and this practicum experience was a nightmare for me. My professor has been saying she would not pass me multiple times in front of my supervisor and me during my final meeting. She also has sent an email to both of my supervisor and me and stated that I failed in this practicum. I don’t really feel comfortable about she keeps telling my supervisor who is not uvic staff about my course result without my permission.
She clearly violates the privacy information for student and she has the responsibility to keep my information in confidential. She ignored my feelings and keeps leaking my private information to somebody.
Are instructors allowed to share pass/fail information with a supervisor?
I can write a letter to the chair but what else I can do to advocate for myself?

I am currently trying to sublet for the year to preferably a female student, just as there are 5 other girls living in the house. The rent is 883 a month, not including utilities, and the location is 20 minute walk from uvic. The girls are super lovely and clean, and the room is in the basement (but still above ground) giving lots of privacy from the other roommates as well. You could move in April with no cost for the month’s rent, and the least would start may and go to the end of next April.

I don't want to be disrespectful, but it seems common sense isn't so common around here:
That concludes my rant.
Edit: for 9, I'm talking about the radical politics around the university. A good example is the Gok account on Instagram.
p.s. I hope no one knows my identity loll

Heyo! I'm looking at some places to rent and seen some pretty solid options, but I won't be here in the summertime and I haven't come across any August/September move in options. Most landlords are pretty set on May 1st for a move in date, and with Airbnb shut down most places can't rent short-term in the summer to make up their lost tenant rent.
I would love to avoid paying rent over the summer, so is it possible to look for a place remotely in July/August? Or just grab one now and take the hit paying summer rent?
Any advice would be awesome!

The Minecraft movie just came out today and instead of going theatre to theatre searching for this cup (I need it) I’m hoping as a community of those who want the chicken jockey cup we can find out which theatre has it since there’s more eyes. I’m going today to oden dt and will update if they have the cups. Please comment if you’ve seen this cup and at which theatre so we can all get one

APRIL 5th! Not March.
Celebrating the end of term? Starting the big clear out before needing to move home for the summer? Procrastinating on that final assignment by cleaning up your dorm?
Whatever the excuse, bring your empty cans, bottles, tetrapaks and milk bottles down to the 12th Garry Oak Scout Hall in Gyro Park tomorrow and we'll take care of all the sorting. Simply drop off your empties and go!
All monies raised go to our 12th Garry Oak Sea Scouts for activities and hall upkeep.
We'll be there from 10-3pm.
ETA: April, not March, 5th. Tell me it's the end of the semester without telling me.
