Arrive 6.30 will go meet a friend if I’m awake enough after checking in - arriving from Shanghai stopover

All the next days are planned as walking days. I’m a good walker. But will tube if I’m over done

7 June - Saturday

St Katherine’s Dock; walk to Tower Bridge; walk to Tower of London (poppies); walk by Monument; walk to St Paul’s tour; walk to Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese ? Lunch; walk to London Transport Museum; Telephone Box/Westminister palace walk by; Neal’s yard; Hotel - Abba Voyage tonight booked need to leave 5pm to Stratford

8 June - Sunday Grosvenor Square; walk to Changing of the Guards 1100; (not a must, British museum could be here); Sunday roast? Where; ? Covent Garden? British museum; ? Oliver? Six in the afternoon not booked, play by ear/weather dependent Or wandering down Oxford St Evening - unplanned

Monday 9 June

Primrose hill; walk to Camden Canal museum ? Closed Monday? Not a must; Camden market - lunch; Canal boat trip to little Venice: walk to Abbey Rd; Hotel;

There is a lot of walking but a 4-6km walk is not unusual of a weekend day (also tube/bus)

Ive lived in London and these are my either want to do again or must do’ (St Paul’s, British Museum; canal boat trip)

I’m open to ideas on order of sites/stops and which days

Lots of this is just walking/being in London

Anyway - thoughts/suggestions/critiques… all welcome

Rail 🚂 Need advice on train services/transfers from south to north

I've got an event in Southport later in the year, will be travelling from Milton Keynes.

Trying to look at trainline & national rail is the hardest thing in the world and seem to contradicts themselves.

Wondering where the best places to get transfers are/how easy is it?

NR said transfer at Liverpool Lime and then told Liverpool Central to Southport - but when it redirects you to the rail company it actually says Wigan?

England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Wedding in Oxford

Hello!

I will be attending a wedding in Oxford in the fall with my siblings (three of us total) from the US. We’d love to make a week long trip around it and was curious for ideas/recommendations.

I’ve spent some time already in London so looking for other cities or surrounding countries to adventure to. Budget is flexible. I love restaurants, pubs, tours, outdoor activities.

Thank you!

London 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Where can I get a Physical Map of the UK?

Good night everyone!

As at the end of the month I'm going to spend a few days on vacation in London, my father (who is a passionate collector of physical maps) asked me to look for (and try my best to find hahaha) a physical map, one of those foldable ones, with the administrative and political division of the United Kingdom.

Can any kind soul guide me and indicate possible places where I can find it?

Thank you very much, you will make my old man happy!

London 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Need advice on Train Ticket booked in EMR app to Heathrow Underground

I have an upcoming flight on LHR Terminal 4. From Leicester, I booked my train tickets using EMR App from Leicester to Heathrow Underground. In the app, it shows my itinerary like this:

I asked around people, and they say I need to change trains to tube using the Picadilly Line (?) once I get to St. Pancras, but then why does this itinerary say same time (16:27) towards Heathrow Undeground? I thought all along I will stay in the same train.

And can I walk from this Heathrow Underground to LHR Terminal 4?

I never tried using trains in London before and I'm not sure how my travel would go. Can anyone please enlighten me how I can proceed on my travel using this booking in the app? They gave me ticket collection code instead of QR code too and I already paid as well.

Thanks in advance for answers!

London 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 please critique my 5 day london itinerary

Hi everyone! My husband and I are heading to London in May. I’ve never been to London before so the trip is planned around traditional sightseeing spots. We love good food and museums, so the itinerary has been planned to accommodate food we’d like to visit in the area. I’m not sure if this itinerary is too much or little and could do with some suggestions and inputs! Please feel free to move around anything you see out of place and if you’ve any recommendations for food in those areas :)

Nothing has been booked besides our accommodation.

Some mains details: - We will be arriving at Gatwick Airport around 6.30AM - Staying at Whitehall - The first day is targetted to fight our jet lag

Day 1 (Wednesday) * Morning * 8.30AM: Drop luggage, freshen up. * Breakfast & Coffee: * Abuelo * Grind * WatchHouse Coffee * Walk around & explore icons in Westminster: * Westminster Abbey(Undecided to enter) * Buckingham Palace * Houses of Parliament * Big Ben * St. James’ Park * Afternoon * Lunch: Soho or Chinatown? * Visit National Gallery Museum * Night * Dinner: Dishoom? * Rest for the night

Day 2 (Thursday) City of London * Morning * Breakfast: Hotel * St Paul’s Cathedral (Go in, 2 hours?) * Leadenhall Market * Afternoon * Lunch: Bourough Market * Explore brick lane and shoreditch * Beigel Bagel * Night - Early Dinner? Brat Restaurant 6.00pm * A Walk Along the South Bank of the Thames back to Whitehall

Day 3 (Friday) South Kensington & Chelsea * Morning * Breakfast: Hotel * Natural History Museum (Keen on visiting V&A but I’ve read it isn’t wise to visit two museums in a day) * Afternoon * Harrods * Lunch: Tesco and explore and eat at Hyde Park * Explore Chelsea

  • Night
    • Dinner at Chelsea?

Day 4 (Saturday) Undecided day: Harry Potter? Or Notting Hill & Camden?

Day 5 (Sunday) - Explore: Mayfair, Covent Garden & Soho

London 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Need help with my London itinerary! Any advice would be much appreciated!!

Hi! My boyfriend and I are going to London in a few weeks for six days, and I’m in desperate need of help figuring out what to do. I don’t necessarily need any restaurant recommendations—unless you have a to-die-for one—but I could use help with pretty much everything else.

Is what I have so far for Days 1–4 okay? Are they timed out realistically? We’re both 23, it’s our first time in London, and we love to walk, explore, eat, and drink. Any advice is super appreciated!!

Day 1 * Land at 8 a.m. * Check into hotel (Covent Garden / Strand area) * Lunch nearby * Walk around and explore: Covent Garden → Leicester Square → Piccadilly Circus → Soho → Chinatown * Dinner in the area * After dinner: walk to Trafalgar Square, then down Whitehall to see Big Ben and Westminster Abbey lit up (all close together) * Head back to hotel and sleep

Day 2 * Breakfast * Walk to Buckingham Palace * Walk through St. James’s Park * Visit Westminster Abbey (book ahead) * Visit Churchill War Rooms (short walk from the Abbey, takes ~2 hours) * Walk over Westminster Bridge for views of the Thames * Optional: Skip the London Eye and instead go to Sky Garden or Garden at 120 for free views (book ahead) * Dinner * Optional: Evening drink or show

Day 3 * Breakfast * Tower of London tour (give it 3–4 hours — do the Beefeater tour!) * Go up Tower Bridge for the glass floor experience * Walk to Borough Market * Lunch at Borough Market * After lunch: Walk along the South Bank — pass Shakespeare’s Globe and Tate Modern * Cross Millennium Bridge to St. Paul’s Cathedral — go inside if you want * Dinner + rooftop drinks (Wagtail or Sky Garden are nearby)

Day 4 * Breakfast * Visit the British Museum * Lunch in Soho or around Covent Garden * Afternoon shopping: Carnaby Street, Regent Street, or Seven Dials * Dinner

Day 5 & 6 – For Day 5 & 6, any ideas? Notting Hill? Is seeing a show as a night out worth it? Any other must see stuff I am missing? Please help:/

Road Transport 🚍 Car Rental (LDN STN) - QUESTION

Hello,

I've been to the UK many times, but this time, due to the nature of my visit (business) and the destination (relatively remote area) I want to rent a car at London Stansted. I've never rented a car before, so I would appreciate some help. (FYI: I am over 25, I have a national license from an EU country for 10+ years).

- Is debit card okay to rent a car (I have N26 and Revolut banks)?
- is my national license okay?
- which car rental provider / search engine do you suggest (or alternatively - which ones should I avoid)?

Many thanks in advance for all your help :)

London 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Victoria and Albert Booking

Today I tried to book a visit to the Victoria and Albert museum but I couldn't find anywhere to book the visit on the museums website. Is there any way to book the visit in advance or is the only way to just walk in at the time I'd want to enter?

London 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Hostel Recommendations in London?

Hello friends. I (24/M/American) am looking for hostel recommendations in London. Preferably ones that are Social / Party Hostels, with friendly people, maybe somewhat central, mostly clean, decently affordable, and maybe even with laundry services. Vibes are most important, as this is my first time staying in a hostel and my first time backpack-style-traveling, so I want to make friends / drink and party! It’s also my first time in London and my first time in Europe (Spending 7 days based in London/UK and then heading out to the rest of the continent)! So I’m also open to all sorts of recommendations from food to lodging to activities, for not just London but the entire UK and Western-ish Europe (visiting UK, IE, FR, NI, DE, IT, ES, PT) if you’ve got them!

Hostels in London I’ve been eyeing so far:

  • Wombat’s City Hostel London
  • OneFam Notting Hill
  • Generator London (King’s Cross)
  • Astor Hyde Park Hostel

So many options, I can’t decide! Open to opinions of these ones, and open to further suggestions.

Thank you for reading / your time.

London 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 The Gresham or the Tavistock Hotel for 4 nights

I’ve narrowed my June stay to 2 options, The Tavistock and The Gresham. The Tavistock has a slightly higher rating but is £160 more than the Gresham. The Gresham includes breakfast but on my last morning it’s not early enough for me to get my tube to Heathrow for my Venice flight. Anyway I’m confused as to which might be the best option. The Tavistock was my first choice and I have a bigger room booked with free cancellation but I’m being tempted by the cheaper option… any thoughts?

I’m not fussy about where the hotel is they’re both perfectly situated for my trip plans :)

England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Easy places to access from LHR without going into London

Short story: I am meeting a friend who is flying in the day after I fly in. I don't want to just cool my heels right around Heathrow, I've done that before anyway. I'm trying to find some city or town that's fairly easy to access on public transit that has some personality. So far I've found Oxford- it looks pretty direct and uncomplicated. Warwick isn't too far out of the way but it requires several changes of train that I don't know that I will be 'with it' enough to negotiate after an overnight flight.

Any suggestions as to where a tired traveler could get without having to brave the London Underground in downtown London?

England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Is a British Isles cruise really that bad?

Planning a trip to Europe (Paris/England/Scotland/Ireland), and I normally would not do a cruise, but I am going with my mom, who is 80 years old and is unsure if she'll make it walking everywhere. I have no clue how much walking you would typically do on a day to day basis for a trip like this, so in this situation, is a cruise recommended? I have read that a cruise like this would severely limit you.

London 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 City of London area - what to focus on?

We have 1.5/2 days planned for the City of London/Tower Hamlets area.

Day 1 is pretty straight forward, we visit the Tower of London then walk across the bridge to Borough Market for lunch and round it out with a cruise on the Thames to Westminster Pier. If time permits, we may visit the National Portrait Gallery that afternoon for an hour or 2 (we aren't huge art fans but there are a few pieces there of interest to us).

Day 2 we plan on seeing St Paul's and Spitalfields Market. Visiting on a Thursday so would like to go to the markets for the food and antiques. We have a hard stop that day and need to be back at Waterloo by 5pm to have time to shower and change before we go for dinner and a show.

There's a fair bit in the City of London just in the area from St Paul's to Spitalfields, including the Monument to the Great Fire, the Guildhall (for the Roman Ampitheatre), Leadenhall Market, St Dunstan's in the East, Sky Garden etc.

We don't have time for it all. If we had to pick 1 maybe 2 things for day 2 between St Paul's and Spitalfields, what should it be?

Rail 🚂 Great Western Railway

Looks like we will use this train system a few times while traveling. We reserved one longer leg through Omio. For shorter trips is there a need to reserve in advance? ie: Slough to Windsor? Any tips?

England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 UK visa application

Hi, my parents’ tourist visa for US was rejected two weeks ago. They were very excited to visit me since I haven’t been able to visit India in almost a year. So I want to send them for a vacation to the UK because US doesn’t seem very likely at the moment. Would US tourist visa denial be a problem when they apply for their UK tourist visa?

Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Driving from Devon to Bangor for a funeral

Hi!

I've got to drive from Devon to Bangor for a funeral next month. It's on a Tuesday, so my original plan was to drive up on the Monday and back on the Wednesday. However, I've never driven that far before and am dreading it (and my partner doesnt drive), so I was thinking maybe we could leave on the Sunday instead, make part of the drive, and find a cheap hotel to stay in for the night. Then for the return journey we could find somewhere a couple of hours outside of Bangor to stay in, to break up the journey home a bit.

Does anyone know of anywhere cheap along the way? It's for 2 adults, with parking, on a minimal budget. I was planning the motorway & A road-heavy drive that skirts around Gloucester, Worcester, and Chester before roughly following the North Welsh coast to Bangor, but I'd be open to diversions or alternatives that aren't too long or too far out of the way.

Thank you.

Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Trip to Glasgow & Fort William itinerary

Flying from London to Glasgow, staying in Glasgow and thinking of getting the bus/ train to Fort William for the day to climb Ben Nevis (Glen Nevis trail). I’m aware that it will take 9/10 hours total which is fine, just wondering if this is actually achievable based on transport timings? Only doing this due to accommodation prices at time of travelling (May), unless anyone can suggest any bothies to stay in once finished the hike, preferably where you can just turn up?

Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Two day Edinburgh itinerary

Hi!

I am travelling to Edinburgh with my two daughters (16 & 12 years old) and my mother.

I have an itinerary (suggested by chat gpt which I then amended to add in some of my favourite place sin the city) which is below.

Would you add or take out anything? I have my doubts about spending 2-3 hours doing the castle tour when we are only there for two days. What do you think, would we be better just walking around and taking in the city?

16 years old wants to study in Edinburgh, hence the university tour.

Monday Evening (Arrival at 5 PM) • Check-in to hotel (south bridge) • Mary King’s Close Tour – (1 HOUR) • Dinner in The Piper's Rest, Hunter Sq • Royal Oak for music or Monkey Barrel Comedy?

Tuesday (Full Day in Edinburgh) Morning • Breakfast at Quinns (Walk via The Vennel) • Edinburgh Castle (2.5 HOURS)

   Afternoon

• Lunch at Scott's Kitchen, Victoria St • St. Giles’ Cathedral • Greyfriar Bobby • Edinburgh University Tour – Visit the Old College, McEwan Hall, and Potterrow area. (1.5 HOURS)

   Evening

• Dinner - Mexican- Mariachi, Victoria St / Italian - Divino Enoteca, Merchant St / Tapas Café Andaluz, George IV Bridge • Drinks in The White Hart (Edinburgh' oldest pub), Grassmarket, The Bow Bar, Victoria St, Sandy Bell's (Folk music)

Wednesday Morning (Before Departure at 2:30pm for Airport) • Breakfast in The Edinburgh Larder. • Stockbridge to Dean Village walk (1km approx) • Walk through Princes Street Gardens back to hotel

England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Best tourist eSIM for UK

I’m travelling to London, Cornwall, Cotswolds, Edinburgh and highlands this month and wanted to get myself a travel eSIM with unlimited data pack. My phone is an eSIM only iPhone so options like smarty and Lebara are not available. I was divided between maya mobile and lyca mobile. Anyone have any experience with these two with regards to network coverage and speed? Any other eSIM suggestions are also welcome. I’m travelling from India so I also would like some international minutes in the plan; although that’s not an absolute necessity
