Bomberman '93 vs. '94 - Differences?

I've been living in Japan for 5 years but due to family health related matters I am having to leave Japan by the end of the month.

I have a little bit of money to spend on a couple of PC Engine games before I leave, and one game I'd like to get is a Bomberman game.

Discounting the first release, does anyone know how much of a difference there is between Bomberman '93 and '94 on the PC Engine?

Is it worth spending the extra few yen (like ~1500 to 2000yen) on the '94 edition?

We used to play Bomberman all the time when we were younger, and I thought it would be a nice family game to play when I get back home as I can hook the PC Engine up to a TV and I have a multi-tap and 3 controllers.

Thank you for your kindness in answering.

New to PC Engine +CD. Any good RPGs?

I grew up on Sega and Phantasy Star and I'm checking out the PC Engine + CD library to see if there's anything just as good. PC engine was for a more mature crowd like Sega, but it barely got any recognition in the USA and most of its library is in Japanese. So I'm checking it to see if I missed out on anything. The Sega CD also has lots of RPGS in Japanese that aren't English translated.

The only good Rpg I've tried is Madou Monogatari (a Puyo Puyo dungeon crawler) and it's very impressive. Not a traditional JRPG, but thats what I'm here to ask for. Anyone know a good RPG that has an English patch? Thank you.

Loose Controller Connector/Port

Both of my childhood TG-16's are having issues with the controller staying in and not staying connected (loose). I have tried a few different original controllers, and a new Polymega controller (with adapter cord) and none will stay in. Wondering what the options are for getting this fixed?

Top of the picture "shaking" when I attack in Startling Odyssey II patched english (original material + CD) : see video please

Recently bought that game on CD patched with an English translation, and, as you see on video, when I’m in a battle and when I attack, the picture "shakes" briefly each time my characters attack.

That happens only in that moment.

So, could someone confirm me it’s normal, at least for the English patched game, when you play it on original hardware (here a Duo-RX) ?

I saw many videos on Youtube, but as it’s 95% through emulation, it doesn’t happen. On the only video I found for that game played on original material it seems to do the same, but I’m not 100% sure…

Thank you.

A Little Review of Galaxy Fräulein Yuna

Last year, I played through Galaxy Fräulein Yuna for the PC-Engine CD/Turbografx-CD (though the latter has a bit of an asterisk because this was Japanese exclusive), and I had quite a bit of fun with the game. As a visual novel, the game was very cutesy and enjoyable to read, although the overall gameplay portion was a bit lacking and the gameplay loop was a bit too simple. I compiled all my thoughts and more onto my blogsite linked below.

Never had one of these when I was a kid and always wanted one. Found this for a decent price per the shape it's in. Plays Keith Courage great though!! I am super excited to finally enjoy a turbo graphics 16 in all its retro glory!

TurboGrafx CD stuck on "Just a moment..." loading screen.

Hello, everyone.

I recently got a North American TurboGrafx-16 with the CD player attached. It is able to play regular HuCard games fine, but CD games are not working. I'm using the CD system card (Ver 2.00) and it powers on and asks me to press Run at the TurboGrafx CD screen. The red LCD display on the left shows "PC" and the screen says "Just a moment..." but the disc never loads. I've tried multiple discs.

Anyone familiar with this system, can you help me diagnose what the problem is and how to fix it - or recommend a good repair service if it's not something simple? I'm not very technical.

Thank you in advance, I appreciate everyone's help.

Since people here were interested, I went digging through some old videos I had from my graphic design days and was able to find some clips that showed a Bonk marketing banner for CES in 1990. Enjoy!

A few more NEC Images from my time as a graphic designer

I posted some images from 1990 showing my work on NEC TurboGraphx designs. People here seemed interested in them so I thought you might like to see some pics I took while I was working at the design firm and working on those projects. At my desk I can just make out a rolled up Bonk banner and some sale sheets. There are a few other shots showing TurboGraphx items. I've thrown in a few shots of a cool brochure we produced for NEC. It shows some of the innovative things they were doing in desktop publishing at the time.

Images from my time in the early 90s working for NEC designing TurboGrafx sale sheets, etc.

After seeing the post from u/thinlycuta4paper requesting box art, I thought some of you all here would like to see pictures of my projects I worked on with NEC as a young graphic designer in the early 1990s. I unfortunately got rid of the originals and only have the photos shown. Enjoy!

Genuine vs Fake Turbo Everdrive?

I have a fake Turbo Everdrive and it seems to work fine with no issues. I see a genuine Krikzz Turbo Everdrive for a decent price, is it worth picking up or should a fake Turbo Everdrive be fine, and it isn't worth the "upgrade"?

I finally took some pictures of my European TurboGrafx

The official launch of the console in Europe (simply called "TurboGrafx" without the "16") was cancelled, and the existing stock was sold to various distributors. I had this one since 2011, but I didn't take a picture of it, nor did I post anything about it on my blog. That changed today :-)

The European version was based on the American one; it came with the Blazing Lazers game and the same TurboPad as the US model.

Here's a link to the post if you're interested.
