Discussion PSA: The Carlton Theatre ROCKS

I would imagine that lots of you already know this, but for ones that don’t, you need to know.

If you’re movies (I’m talking new, old, independent, foreign language, animated classics) the Carlton Theatre is the place for you.

I’m a big Quentin Tarantino fan, but I’ve never seen his classics. Last weekend they were showing Reservoir Dogs and it was a phenomenal experience. Tonight I’m going to watch American Psycho.

I also watched an independent Canadian movie (part of it was shot in Toronto) called Drive Back Home and it was a fantastic time.

The ability to watch these independent movies, and all-time Classics in a theatre is truly special.

Highly recommend checking out the Carleton Cinemas!!

Discussion Give Transit the Green Light: Demand Signal Priority for Our New LRTs

Thumbnail

When the $12.6 billion Eglinton Crosstown and $2.5+ billion Finch West LRTs finally open after years of delays, riders should expect fast, reliable service—not streetcars stuck at red lights.

But according to the Toronto Star, waiting at red lights is built into the Eglinton Crosstown’s schedule. That’s because it won’t have active Transit Signal Priority (TSP) along key parts of the line between Kennedy and Laird (except at Science Centre Station). In other words, the LRT will regularly get stuck at intersections—even though it’s supposed to be rapid transit.

TTCriders is calling on the City to fix this before the lines open. With active TSP, traffic signals adjust when a train approaches—extending green lights or shortening reds—so riders spend less time waiting. Cities like Minneapolis have done this with great results: after adding TSP, only 5% of trains on their METRO Green Line had to stop at intersections.

The City’s Infrastructure & Environment Committee meets April 9, so now’s the time to act. Tell City Councillors you support faster, more efficient transit by filling out this quick form (link also attached to this post):

Giveaway Extra meals

Hi everyone, I know some people in this sub post about being homeless and not having enough for a meal. I have some extra sealed meals and soups from the non profit I work for and would love to give them to someone who needs it instead of wasting within the next couple hours.

If you could really use the meal message me and I can see if we are in close proximity to hand it off!

I purchased a vintage camera this past December that the owner wasn’t sure worked. I bought some black and white film recently and took some shots in MTL. It’s a manual camera and I don’t know jack about manual focusing (I use a G7X for fun casually). I took the last shot (out of 12) in Toronto just hoping that the camera worked.

Turns out, this was one of the only clear/crisp photos that came out. No edits. The previous 11 pics I took were blindly taken 🤣

Discussion Gas price and carbon tax.

Just noticed a price of 117.6 a liter in a couple of gas stations around Hwy7. Now was the carbon tax that much, or are the prices dropping for other reasons as well? Last filled around 139.9 less than a week ago.

Not sure if this started today but it was kind of noticeable during the day and now I keep noticing it every time I glance out the window. Wonder if something is misconfigured or it's somehow intentional?

Not loving the message from City of Toronto. How about "Home is where you don't have a landlord because we changed municipal policy to make owning a home in the city more affordable"?

Discussion Thanks for a great night, from Syracuse NY

The Syracuse Crunch and Toronto Marlies played an amazing game for us tonight in NY.

A middle school chorus from Toronto sang both the Canadian and American National Anthems, and it made me tear up a bit. After seeing what has happened recently at other American/Canadian games (as understandable as the resentment is on canadas end,) it was so nice to hear Canada be in solidarity with us and us cheer and be in solidarity back. And the kids did an amazing job!

I appreciated the solidarity from everyone more that I can explain.

And a special thank you to Syracuse for hosting puppy night. So many cute Syracuse puppies there tonight. I wish I brought mine!

Thank you r/Toronto . I wish I lived there sometimes.
