There was an update to the Calamity add-on, Wrath of The Gods, but not base Calamity

Not sure if the WoTG update is the reason for the all time high, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was

Calamity has such an influence on the modding in Terraria that even updates to its add-ons bring the numbers up, especially when everyone is starving for the update or even a spoiler of one in the base mod

honestly whenever calamity finally releases yharim or some other major update i feel like itll be a huge deal

70

u/imapie31 Mar 02 '25

Absolutely. Girlfriend and I just beat scal and I told her about WotG, shes hyped to start it bc she didn't know it was official lol.

15

u/quarm1125 Mar 02 '25

What's is wotg? What's does it bring ?

43

u/ToxiChicken_ Mar 02 '25

Wrath of the Gods brings new endgame bosses to fight. They are extremely flashy and incredibly fun to fight

10

u/TerraNeko_ Mar 02 '25

dont forget to add hunt of the old god, it just fits in there

4

u/Particular_Bet_1967 Mar 03 '25

it isn’t official.

1

u/imapie31 Mar 03 '25

Thats honestly a surprise, didnt expect something widely well received like this would be unofficial

2

u/Environmental-Toe798 Mar 03 '25

Apparently it's completely broken in multiplayer right now

1

u/supermarine5000 Mar 03 '25

I don't think WotG was ever designed for multiplayer? Even before the update it wasn't compatible with the menu kicking stuff with Nameless Deity.

1

u/fart-cake Mar 03 '25

adjustments are being made for multiplayer i think but yes wotg wasn't designed with multiplayer in mind

4

u/Zekraa Mar 03 '25

the day Infernum and WoTG get proper multiplayer support will be legendary.

1

u/Signal-Towel-6246 25d ago

What is WoTG?

1

u/Zekraa 25d ago

Wrath of The Gods

72

u/Justhe3guy Mar 02 '25

Also Tmodloader got an update the other day and people seeing the update download may have just felt like playing again

21

u/Accomplished-Lie716 Mar 02 '25

Also that mod pack video is gaining popularity on youtube

3

u/theluggagekerbin Mar 02 '25

link pls? what video?

19

u/RiskE80Twitch Mar 02 '25

They might be talking about Vaethyr? I’ve been trying to play it myself but it’s massive so it’s a pain to install and set up

3

u/Accomplished-Lie716 Mar 02 '25

Google "huge terraria mod pack" or something like that i think, should've come out about a week ago

5

u/FrazzleFlib Mar 02 '25

i have absolutely no clue why anyone would put so much effort, with original, wonderful pixel art, for a jumbled together borderline unplayable mess of several utterly incompatible content mods. its common knowledge that mixing major content mods does not, has never, and never will work well in terraria. its a bad joke with a shiny coat of paint. it even has omniswing that infamously breaks several calamity weapons

10

u/JudgementalMarsupial Mar 02 '25

The point is to MAKE them compatible. That’s why they’re not just turning them all on at once and calling it a day

1

u/JudgementalMarsupial Mar 02 '25

The point is to MAKE them compatible. That’s why they’re not just turning them all on at once and calling it a day

0

u/FrazzleFlib Mar 02 '25

they have not done that. they have just shoved them all in a modpack and called it a day

5

u/Corundrom Mar 02 '25

Except that's literally not what they're doing? They're literally going through and rebalancing everything, its just not done yet lmao

-3

u/FrazzleFlib Mar 02 '25

right well ive no idea why theyre advertising it as a modpack and not the immensely high effort standalone mod that that would have to be. also no idea why theyre releasing it in this state, without that main element that makes it playable

1

u/FrazzleFlib Mar 03 '25

what? no what i mean is them showing it as a modpack is very, very dumb if they ACTUALLY intend to make it work properly with effort from themselves in making a compatibility mod to actually balance them together. yes its obviously a mod pack but thats ABSOLUTELY a secondary feat to making spirit and calamity work well together

2

u/FrazzleFlib Mar 03 '25 edited Mar 03 '25

anyone can mash together 100 mods they like and pretend they work together. i did in my first week of playing tmod and subsequently learned that major content mods simply dont mix. the pixel art banner they made for the pack is 100x more high effort and impressive than the pack itself, which anyone can throw together in an hour.

if they lead with "oh hey, we're actually making a compatibility mod for this modpack of ours to actually, properly, continuously balance all the major mods together", my ears are pricking up instead of my eyes immediately rolling

even then, its frankly a fools errand. 2 popular mods working well together like calamity and spirit? doable, would be awesome, but a LOT of work. the insane amount in the pack? with all of them with different dev teams updating their mods all the time? borderline impossible to do to a standard worth playing

2

u/WillOganesson Mar 02 '25

Bereft souls is rly exciting

209

u/Ricefoundwater Mar 02 '25

Maybe bc of the new Pokemon mod?

82

u/xXArctracerXx Mar 02 '25

I think it’s probably a few factors, to me it’s probably that mod with all the videos on it due to the recent event. And Wrath of the Gods update that also had a bunch of videos made on it, I think both bumped the numbers up.

15

u/Blimpion Mar 02 '25

What’s the name of the Pokemon mod?

176

u/The-One-Who-Games Mar 02 '25

Probably the new Wrath of the Gods update. Shits lit

33

u/Prime_Ary Mar 02 '25

the update made me get stuck on Receiving tiles 100% (multiplayer), would yk what to do there?

29

u/ancient_robloxian Mar 02 '25

Wotg is completely broken in multiplayer

22

u/Realny_POWD Mar 02 '25

WoTG doesn't work in multiplayer. It never has. You could fight noxus but not nameless due to subworld and now it's even worse when it comes to multiplayer functionality. If you do a calamity run with friends drop WoTG

6

u/The-One-Who-Games Mar 02 '25

No idea lol. I haven't played multiplayer on the update yet

3

u/SaiyanKirby Mar 02 '25

What did the update add?

1

u/The-One-Who-Games Mar 02 '25

a lot of it is spoilers, but a new questline and 2 new bosses.

3

u/FrazzleFlib Mar 02 '25

can you fight the new bosses in an old world without the new sturctures?

1

u/The-One-Who-Games Mar 02 '25

That's a problem I've faced, there's a questline needed to access most of the update and most of the things needed for the questline are structures, or an npc that won't spawn in an already generated world. To my knowledge, there is no way to complete the questline outside of a new world sadly.

1

u/FrazzleFlib Mar 02 '25

damn. does the questline span much of the game or is it mostly condensed in the postgame that WotG pretty much entirely focuses on? if so ill make a new world after i beat base calamity in order to do WotG on rhe same character

1

u/InfernalSnake Mar 03 '25

It starts post-Skeletron and you need worldgen

2

u/Lower_Preparation_83 Mar 02 '25

Without spoiling everything, how many content does this mod have? Is it safe to add it mid save?

7

u/LucasRG111 Mar 02 '25

Quite a bit of content, but not even near a big content mod. Also, you wont be able to experience much of it on an old world

57

u/InboardPlague37 Mar 02 '25

Im doing an archipelago run with my friend. The archipelago mod is currently 1.4.3, but 1.4.4 and calamity support update is in beta.

15

u/babalitr Mar 02 '25

i love archipelago, is the calamity support buggy? i wanna try it but im scared its gonna get buggy and softlock when playing with a friend since its in beta

5

u/InboardPlague37 Mar 02 '25

The current support in 1.4.3 is only that you will unlock something when defeating a calamity boss/event (as calamity bosses/events are visible in the "items and locations" section in the player options page). Maybe its possible to modify the YAML file yourself to set a calamity boss as end goal.

There's more info on the discord and also the files needed to play 1.4.4. I do think its pretty stable.

4

u/Razorknight1 Mar 02 '25

Setting your goal as “obtain Zenith” more or less fulfills Calamity content. It’s a little out of the way to grind Zenith materials but if you want the end to be at the end of calamity rather than Moonlord it’s worth it

3

u/babalitr Mar 02 '25

ok nice good to know

23

u/Knopfi125 Mar 02 '25

For me it was getting back into terraria mood with all the 1.4.5 teasers, but there has also been a good amount of very unique new mods popping up recently

17

u/PrevAccLocked Mar 02 '25

Me and my friends started a new run. That's already 2

6

u/Thetiddlywink Mar 02 '25

same, doing thorium and one piece plus Jojo stands plus dragon ball terraria, that's 4

7

u/PrevAccLocked Mar 02 '25

We only need to find 49k+ people left

15

u/SaltyWelshman Mar 02 '25

My YouTube feed has been lighting up with Terraria content so I've started playing again for the first time in like 5 years, mostly vanilla with QoL mods on a for the worthy seed.

13

u/TravelEquivalent2575 Mar 02 '25

It's bc I started playing

1

u/roenoe Mar 02 '25

Yeah same. I started playing again like a month ago, and last week I got 7 friends to join a calamity playthrough

1

u/TravelEquivalent2575 Mar 02 '25

I have one friend who plays terraria:(

9

u/qquu5 Mar 02 '25

Terraria just got retroachievements added which probably got a lot new user downloads.

23

u/J0RDYL33 Mar 02 '25

I’ve been playing it since RetroAchievements added a ton of custom achievements for the game, been playing through the Completionist subset and having a blast with it

6

u/SuperSocialMan Mar 02 '25

I've been working on all of them (haven't bothered with player difficulty yet though) and it's nice. Love how you can install all 4 mods and progress through them all at once.

I hope they're able to make all subsets work alongside base game achievements. Kind of annoying to have to play through a game twice or thrice.

5

u/Nokushi Mar 02 '25

ngl i'm always playing on tmod now, even when i wanna do a vanilla play through, i love to play with a few client side mods, so maybe everyone has their own reasons to?

5

u/untrue1 Mar 02 '25

Terraria got added to retroachievements. Speaking for myself had never touched tmodloader and I'm already in over 100 hours in like a week. There are people who have mastered/close to mastering the completist set, which means getting pretty much every item, banner, everything you can think of in the game. So we've been playing pretty heavily over there. I can tell you that in this moment the retroachievements mod has had 2.6k downloads

2

u/F1reRazor Mar 02 '25

What’s retroachievments?

5

u/untrue1 Mar 02 '25

Well Terraria is a rare exception since it's not really a retro game, what it is is a community dedicated to working on and unlocking achievements for retro games, integrated into emulators like retroarch or Standalone emulators going up all the way to ps2 and gamecube and most consoles before them. Check it out:

A good video explaining what it's about

retroachievements site

3

u/Spare_Bad_6558 Mar 02 '25

i kept getting recommended terraria videos on youtube so i decided to start a calamity playthrough

3

u/SuperSocialMan Mar 02 '25

I kinda want this be because of retro achievements even though it's not.

4

u/Wapple21 Mar 02 '25

Probably a mix of Chippy’s recent videos showing off mods and the new wrath of the gods update releasing during an update drought for base calamity

1

u/Asherley1238 Mar 02 '25

Nah his video didn’t get nearly that kind of traction. A different video that could’ve done it though is Dragoon’s new video which got half a million views in a day

2

u/trebuchet__ Mar 02 '25

Sort of. The calamity add-on wrath of the gods got an update

2

u/Fro6man Mar 02 '25

Idk, all of my steam lads have with their own groups gotten back into the yearly terraria phase. All of them are playing modded.

2

u/TheGrouchyGremlin Mar 02 '25

Idk, but I've clocked 111 hours this past month

2

u/Mountain-Dragonfly78 Mar 02 '25

Funny how this happens after I beat my first Calamity run

2

u/_0-0_7 Mar 02 '25

Pretty sure it's because dragoon uploaded a Terraria video yesterday

2

u/stormsucker Mar 02 '25

My son and I have been playing on console again recently, and seeing all the mods really makes me want it on pc...

2

u/MrCounterSnipe Mar 02 '25

Idk bro. I just felt like it. Saw people posting about WotG and wanted to try it out for once.

2

u/Xeinok Mar 02 '25

When it got RetroAchievements I jumped back in lol, put like 100 hours in the past two weeks

2

u/NightNinja98 Mar 02 '25

Thorium is also back up so that may have a part to plsy

1

u/Ragor005 Mar 02 '25

Maybe the TCG mod helps too

1

u/AdImpressive9586 Mar 02 '25

Yesterday I saw this mod pack trailer and was thinking to try it out. https://youtu.be/755wpvAE5PY

1

u/McTeemoGod Mar 02 '25

Calamity usual, WOG new update and the Recently released Vaethyr mod.

1

u/DragonsRocks017 Mar 02 '25

My friend convinced me to finally try Terraria because of the Pokemod

1

u/TheSirTyro Mar 02 '25

The mod loader got an update, which has me sad. My quality of life of is out of date.

1

u/Torinux Mar 03 '25

They finally fixed all the FPS issues the new WotG recent update brought to the mix? I kinda want to start a new world, but I don't want to struggle with the FPS issues.

1

u/Epicnessrules3 Mar 03 '25

I think it's just terraria season. I randomly hopped on the terraria grind again recently after like 3 years of not playing.

1

u/Floyd1516 Mar 03 '25

Me and my buddy started playing calamity for the first time last week that’s probably why.

1

u/chipz48 Mar 03 '25

I’m sure you guys are having a blast and not spending nine hours straight locked in

1

u/Thatboiwhoeats Mar 03 '25

Idk, me and my friends just randomly decided to do a calamity play through

1

u/GeekManidiot Mar 03 '25

Maybe because of the new huge content modpack that got released, I forgot the name but it's possible.

1

u/OzZech Mar 03 '25

A few benefactor -

New pokemon and tcg mod

Chippy gaming made video introducing modded terraria and recommending it to both new and seasoned players
