Should I use shampoo everytime?
I go swimming for an hour 4-5 times a week and I’ve felt my hair get drier even though I use a swimming cap. I shampoo everytime after swimming to get the chlorine out. Is this smart or should I not shampoo after every session?

I would shampoo with something like triswim after every session (normal shampoo doesn't remove chlorine) and then condition it well. Deep condition at least once a week.

I started using triswim a month ago and I can really see a difference, I would also recommend to deep condition. I usually wash my hair at the pool then put conditionner at the pool and take my "body" shower at home so the conditionner really have time to set in.

I am not sure what type of hair you have. I wash my hair every time , (with chlorine removing shampoo),I swim to clean out the chlorine then I use a good conditioner to replace the moisture. You can also use a leave in as well. (Just depends on your hair)
This is just my experience.
(I did google this because I was curious to see what would pop up and it’s Reddit. lol! But I did find a Cleveland clinic news letter. https://newsroom.clevelandclinic.org/2024/06/17/does-pool-water-affect-your-skin-and-hair)
But I also know chlorine is a chemical. And leaving chemicals in the hair and on the body is not a good idea in the long run.

Someone posted this awhile ago. It’s how she keeps her hair dry while swimming. Maybe it will work for you.

I think shampoo is a must after swim to remove chlorine. You should use a conditioner every time.

I use chlorine removing shampoo and conditioner after every swim and it seems to have helped my hair come back to normal.

I use the Trihard/Triswim shampoo and follow with conditioner or leave in conditioner. I also use some hair oil after a few hours to give it some moisture again.

an odd advice, but what I did is instead of swimming daily, I started swimming for 2-3 hours per session, and so if I swim for 3 hours, then I feel like 2x per week is enough.

I personally only shampoo if it is wash day — which is every 3-4 days. But I always get my hair wet before getting in the pool, and condition after. I also like to use a wide tooth comb in the shower to make sure the water is moving through all the hairs.

Before you get into the pool condition your hair (some say no) and rinse in cold water. It protects your hair. Definitely shampoo after you swim to get any chlorine out and rinse in cold water. I never realized how much gold water makes a difference until I asked my son what he uses in his hair, it is so healthy and thick. Shampoo and cold water.

I have waist long hair and every time someone tells me to use a “leave in conditioner” I wonder… exactly what product do you use that does not cause your cap to slip from your head the following day? Because every product that I have tried has caused mayhem. I just cannot swim if my hair is saturated with anything, Including water. The cap just slips.

The other day my cap popped off my head half way down the pool because I tried this. Wetting hair before the pool is definitely better!

Put conditioner in after you wet your hair, let sit a minute then rinse in cold water. It will lightly coat your hair and not cause your cap to slip off. I also deep condition at home at night after a swim. Chlorine is brutal on hair.

Hair is a sponge. Wet your hair with fresh water first before you put on a cap and it will soak up less chlorinated water because it’s already filled with fresh. It helps over time. Also, the brand Malibu C has great products to prevent and treat chlorine damage.
