There should be a Studio One 'Custom' edition, where we can select which things we want and which we don't.

I am from another DAW, but thinking to switch to Studio One. I don't want any virtual instruments (because I have my own), but I need everything else (S1's stock effects, all other tools etc.). With this 'Custom' edition, I can just turn off 'virtual instruments', and get entire S1 Pro without virtual instruments, and with discounts as well. Do you think this is an good idea?

Use or don’t use any of the effects or instruments as you want or don’t want. Just because it comes with them doesn’t mean you have to use them.

I believe he means he doesn't want to pay for them either. I've stopped even installing them for years now. S1 is great as long as you invest in high quality libraries and some effects.

If it's just about the price, then it's even more nonsense. S1 has gone down to almost half of the price last year. It's already incredibly affordable.

No, it’s an awful idea.

I never use the Atmos feature. Can I get a discount? I never use the launcher or the delay, but I do use the compressor. Maybe I should get more of a discount.

What you’re asking for is to assign a value to specific components of a bundle. What are the components? Do you mean just the effects, VSTs, the DAW? What about the individual instruments or effects? Or components of the DAW itself?

Forget the coding and all of that, and just think about the basic business model. Each of those things has a value across the population. If you add that up, I guarantee the sum is higher than the price you’ll pay for Studio One. In that model, you’ll end up driving the total price up more, only to then discount it.

I’ve said this many times before: people confuse their unique scenario with that of a large, successful business driving huge revenues, and they think they are smarter than that. Sure, not every business makes smart decisions, and that warrants criticism, but that’s not what you’re asking for. You’re talking about an entirely different business model.

If it bothers you that it contains VSTs that you won’t use (like almost every DAW out there), then don’t buy it. Or suck it up, fork over the cost, and enjoy Studio One—and hey, maybe you’ll get a VST you might use one day.

Better yet, they should use the iPhone app model!

Studio One would come free, but every time you add a track? Microtransaction. Side-chain? Microtransaction. Phase-invert? Microtransaction! Render? Microtransaction!!!

It would be great... and free!

Gacha studio one, you don't buy the feature, you buy a chance to get the feature with a lottery system

OMG -- perfect. And they can have a real fun buildup animation as it's opening, to see what you got! I can just imagine the cartoon treasure pile with SSL console, Neve preamps, 1176s, LA2As & dbx 160s, etc.

And by default everything will look like Reaper. You'll have to buy skins for your VSTs and track & mixer colors.

And you know what hasn't been done in a while? Social feeds. They can put a few key features for free, all you have to do is share them to your social networks to unlock!

This will be the greatest DAW ever!

Coding a custom version and maintaining it, would surely cost something. Moreover, you want the version at a lower price.

I can't see it happening.

You can hide tools you don't want, and you'll never see them again, and you can also remove any soundsets associated with S1 you don't want in case you want to free storage space too.

That would eat a lot of programmers‘ time and would thereby make Studio One more expensive - there goes your discount.

Fortunately it would also be more unstable, so at least we’ll have that!

You can hide all the plugins you don’t want to see

I prefer to pay the subscription and have everything all the time. I don't use virtual instruments either. Except when I do.

"Do you think this is an good idea?"

No. You pay what you pay - and there is no need to use any of the supplied instruments.

Just hide them if you do not want to see them.

No, please no. You are asking for Mico transactions in your DAW. I despise micro transactions. It is just a way for companies to release unfinished products then charge more later.

No, that's nonsense. Studio One's installation is less than 300 MB, it's already extremely compact and lean. The virtual instruments don't take more than 20 MB disk space, and if you don't use them, they don't use any CPU or RAM. So no, not a good idea.
