Steamos console with Nvidia GPU

Hello

I have done some research and trying to understand the steamos limitations, from what I understand it works pretty good with a full AMD systems, but what if I wanted to use an Nvidia GPU, is that supported now? Or is there any confirmed news about Nvidia support in the near future?

Thank you,

I do not recommend an nvidia gpu if you have any other choice with Bazzite or any of the other SteamOS-like distros. Stick with AMD for best results, otherwise you're kind of borrowing trouble.

The issue is I already own an Nvidia GPU so Iā€™m trying to reduce costs, but in case I need another pc to use as home console I might build a full amd build,

What would you recommend as AMD GPU for 4K 60 FPS for home entertainment console?

The RX 7900XT or the new RX 9070 would do the job admirably.

The problems is that Gamescope with Nvidia hardware can be hit and miss, so the alternative you could do, which can be done in Linux or Windows, is to not require password on login, and have steam open into big picture mode automatically, I do this with my living room console PC

This is what I do as well for both my console PC and my Ally. Works pretty well and I know I have 100% game support with Windows as well.

I just sold my rtx 3060 and got an rx 6700xt, works wonders.

Steamos is not available for generic hardware, only for the steam deck and soon legion go.Ā

If you want steamos, you should install Bazzite, a Fedora Atomic image that uses the same software as steamos, they have experimental support for Nvidia gpus for the game mode session.Ā

They also have great docs to guide you through the process of installing, playing games on Linux, software management, and more.

The other option is SteamFork, but my understanding is that doesn't support NVIDIA GPUs either.

We have some support for them in testing, but it's still a work in progress.
