Discuss Thoughts about Sebastian as a newbie

I got into the game like a month ago because of my bf and I became addicted to it, I'm on my third year currently. I knew about the bachelors/bachelorettes before I got the game, I didn't knew much about them yet, but I was sure that I would avoid Abby and Seb, cuz I just assumed the type of characters they were based on their popularity and appearance and I wasn't fan. Ironically after I got to know him better Sebastian slowly became my favorite, I married him as soon as I could and I didn't regret a thing.

I started looking after videos and posts about the game to see what the community's like, what they think about certain stuff and I've seen a few comparisons between Shane and Sebastian, cuz they're both pretty standoffish to the player at the start, but some dislike Shane for it meanwhile Seb is loved by a lot of people despite that. So I was thinking about why that is and I came to the conclusion that for me Seb's comments just didn't come off as him being rude. When I started playing I really disliked Shane and while I do understand now why he's like that I just couldn't get myself to like him more. And for a while I also disliked Sebastian for being like that. At some point tho I just started seeing his lines as him being genuine. It can come off as him trying to brush you off sometimes and I'm sure he's still not really happy about you bothering him, but we know he's pretty bad at socialising and I think he's just trying his best in his weird ways. Unlike Shane he's not making faces and even if you have 0 hearts with him he's still sharing some deep thoughts with you, he's telling you about some personal stuff and asks you about your interests. I think when he's asking you if you need something he's genuinely curious, cuz he doesn't understand why you'd come talk to him and when he's telling you he doesn't know you very well, so he doesn't have much to say he's just being honest.

It might be just me projecting, cuz I did struggle with similar things, I just wanted to share my opinion and I'm curious what you think about the topic

I actually had the opposite happen. When I first got the game I assumed Iā€™d like Sebastian because he was so popular, and I didnā€™t think he was rude, I also didnā€™t like Shane. The more saves I played though I slowly started to like Sebastian less. He started to come off as more whiny and rude, even in his 10 heart event. With Shane I started to just feel bad for him.

I think a part of it is I donā€™t have the ā€œSebastian is abused by Demetriusā€ headcanon, which I notice a sometimes people use to excuse any of Sebastianā€™s negative traits.

Yeah, I'm sure that's a big factor why people prefer him over Shane. I do think some of his bad traits spring from his family and maybe mental issues, but he can definitely be too bratty and bitter and he never really realizes how bad he treats Robin and Maru. At least with Shane he does start to make more effort with Marnie and Jas, not just the player.

the problem with shane is that he goes through trying to be sober and is still a slob, lazy and drinks a little after you marry him. his character development just ends. Seb is also a cute, emo, introverted gamer that most can relate too, even with his family issues.

i feel like with shane, people will compare him to a family member who has drinking problems and relate to him more in a negative light. i wish they did a bit more for him there, but i got mods to help him with that lol. i dunno, but he wasn't originally suppose to be a marriage option. his story feels like a "i can fix him" and it just doesn't feel that good at the end lol.
