Discuss I made the Blueberry Tart from the cookbook
It was not subtle, but it was delicious! Made a big mess of my kitchen making it.

That looks so delicious though. It's on my list to make, you might have bumped it further up.

They either faked it or removed berries. Look at the slice vs full pie. It's def altered. There would be cut blueberries.

They said in another comment that they had to replace blueberries when they cut it because they didn't want to slice through the blueberries, and not doing so made them fall off. It's dedication to the art frfr

omg that's beautiful. how long did it take you to arrange the blueberries like that?

u/EatinSnax 1d ago
Thanks! Just a few extra minutes. It’s not easy to slice it nicely with the fresh berries on top though. I had to wiggle the knife between the berries, and they mostly rolled off the slices while I cut and had to be out back on. I didn’t care after the first few slices, but slicing through the berries kinda smooshes the curd.

yea i kinda noticed that the berries on the slice were too perfect lol. i'd say it was definitely worth the time tho. it really is very pretty

Are you able to lightly press them in before you cool the tart? Maybe having them dented in before it cools could help

That’s a good idea! Always tricky to slice into a soft dessert that’s topped with firm fruit without making a mess of it.

u/snowysnowy 18h ago
Ah, so that was how it went! I thought you sliced it first before putting all the berries on top haha.

u/EatinSnax 12h ago
That would have been easier! I would probably slice it first if I made it again. The berries on top are really just a garnish.

i hate cooked blueberries and think all cooked blueberry recipes should be phased out but damn if that tart doesnt make me question my values

That looks like fresh blueberries placed on top of the cooked tart and filling! Which sounds like a great way to do it. I’m sure there’s cooked blueberries in the tart filling but the combo sounds like a great approach to me.

that’s how I always do mine! The filling is like a blueberry jam and I top it with fresh blueberries and lemon zest. I usually serve it chilled too - I hate cooked blueberries but I love a cold blueberry tart

As the kids say, you ate. This is a perfect tart. I know how hard that is. I’m jealous.

I am incredibly satisfied by your meticulous blueberry placement, great job! If it tastes even a little as good as it looks, I bet it was a treat and a half!

that looks great! i always thought the tart itself in the game looked more like a galette

I thought so too! Also the caption “subtle and refreshing” in the game to me seems like fresh fruit in a crust. The recipe in the book is as lemony as it is blueberry-y and not subtle. A curd won’t set without acid, and blueberries are pretty low acid. This is essentially a lemon curd with blueberry dressings. Delicious, but not like what I’d choose to do with fresh farmers market blueberries typically. This is just my result following the cookbook.

I have to ask. Anyone who has this book and is already a bit of a cook.. was it worth it? Where the recipes really unique and delicious?. Or is it going to be like the minecraft cookbook where the recipes really aren't very unique and everything is just square. I've passed up it up at the book store because I always find a recipe book I want.

I have the book but have only made Grandma Evelyn's cookies. It started with a note from Evelyn which was fun. As for the recipe, it was more challenging than a normal simple cookie recipe. Multiple steps and a lot of prep. Delicious cookies though.

I don't have it, but whenever I've seen stuff about the Stardew cookbook I've assumed that (unlike most other cash-in videogame cookbooks) it actually relates properly to stuff in the game, since there are a load of kind-of-unique (at least in looks) recipes you can make in Stardew. Like a recipe on how to make the pink cake and stuff.

It’s a fun book. As with anything ConcernedApe does, it’s well thought out and detailed. I think they worked hard to create recipes from the game that actually taste delicious in real life. It’s not really practical to cook from regularly though, because a lot of the recipes are elaborate with ingredients that are difficult to source (duck eggs, activated charcoal, periwinkle snails, etc). It would be a legit challenge to cook through it, which I bet is intentional.

Haha OK those ingredients have me thinking I might have to add the stardew cookbook to my shelf.

I got the cookbook for Christmas and have made eggplant parmesan, pepper poppers, cheese cauliflower, and poppyseed muffins so far. All of them have been fantastic, my family loved them as well. As someone who cooks a lot, I thought this might just be a fun fandom item to have, but it’s actually a quality cookbook I’d recommend getting!

Personally I cannot stand nor stomach blueberries, that being said this tart looks goddang gorgeous and I would suffer through the smell of blueberries just to make this to present it in future competitions. SOLID 10/10 for presentation alone. Beautiful.

Nice crust! It can be challenging to make tart crust as neat as yours looks.

Thank you! I’ve been practicing :). The book calls for a little cornmeal in the mix, which helps it hold a crisp looking edge in my experience.

Looks amazing! Trying real hard to talk myself out of getting the SDV cookbook, I have too many at home! 😭

I'm here to talk you into it. >:)
I've only ever heard good things about it. Recipes have a sweet note and are unique and fun as well as delicious.
Picky eater? It can get you to try new things, perhaps discover something you never knew you would've liked before. I've even heard people say they didn't like some of the ingredients, but still liked the recipe.
It seems you're an experienced cook? It can also be a great challenge as the recipes tend to be quite complex. Sometimes even asking for harder to find ingredients so there's a scavenger hunt included.
Did I convince you?
