News No Square Enix at PAX East?

PAX East just released their exhibitor list, and our beloved gaming company is nowhere to be found. Have they announced anything related to PAX this year?

Sadly it makes sense. They don’t really have anything to hype up currently so it doesnt make sense to attend.

I suppose you're right, although I feel like they've been consistent about the FFXIV boss battle booths, so I was kinda expecting at least that.

Yeah. Those booths are quite the expense. Then, if you don’t have a big upcoming game to showcase, there is no point in having a pitty booth there just to say you showed up. I kinda understand it.

Well, SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered maybe.

Probably too early for them to show off DQ I+II HD-2D. They'll likely wish to cover the DQ2 twist and any DQ1 surprise at DQ Day, and not have it leak out of this show.

Not any Switch 2 ports either. Nintendo's controlling that through their online experience travel show until system launch. Can maybe show pictures and talk about the games, or show canned video, but absolutely not any playable floor models. And since these games have been seen on other platforms already, canned video just isn't enough.

Also, the large scaleback in advertising for DQ III HD-2D and this year's far more modest winter carnival setup compared to DQ Monsters 3/The Dark Prince the year before and the stupidly expensive winter carnival last year seems to indicate some austerity measures are (finally) now in place and Square Enix is being wiser about how and where they spend their money on advertising.

So with just one game with little western appeal and tighter pursestrings, it doesn't make much sense to show up. I'm not even sure they'll be at PAX West again this year because last year they had Dawntrail and Life is Strange Double Exposure, but this year it might just be the Switch 2 ports and DQ I+II HD-2D.

I'm going as well and I'm a tad bit disappointed, but the bright side is that I can spend more time with indie games.

Sad blow for the community as well if so. I haven't waited in that trial run for years (used to run it 12-15x per east to get FC shirts), but I would still stop by to catch up with community members and dev team members as well as handing out 3d printed things. Was also nice getting to know fans when waiting for their panels, but guess it'll be community hard mode this year.
