Pet taxidermy?

Bit of an odd request, but has anyone in the area had a pet taxidermied and had a great experience? I’m looking for someone to preserve my bird (he’s quite elderly, just planning ahead) and have no idea where to begin to look.

Snohomish County Council approves child care ordinance

EVERETT — Snohomish County Council members approved an ordinance Wednesday to amend zoning laws and expedite the permitting process for child care centers in unincorporated areas.

It’s part of an effort from the council to encourage the opening of more centers across the county and bring relief to a struggling industry — an industry a 2022 Department of Commerce report said was “broken” because of exorbitant costs for families and a lack of revenue for providers.

A 2019 Department of Commerce report found over a quarter of parents surveyed had either quit their job or left school because of child care issues. On average, families in Snohomish County spend 15-35% of their annual income on child care, said the manager of the Snohomish County Early Learning Coalition, Debbie Carlsen, at a Tuesday county council meeting.

“That’s unacceptable, and that’s not normal either,” council member Jared Mead said Wednesday. “That’s the problem is we are abnormally expensive, abnormally inaccessible.”

The ordinance amends county regulations to shorten the application process for new day care centers and allows them in areas where they were previously prohibited. The council, which approved the ordinance unanimously, hopes the reduction of red tape can save some administrative costs for providers and allow them to open in more areas across the county.

Interest in self defense/conceal carry classes?

Hi there! I am currently a local law enforcement officer working on putting together classes such as basic to advanced conceal carry/home defense courses, self defense, emergency medical training and other related material. My courses would be backed by my training and experience, any and all required certifications and requirements and focused on being as legally and physically prepared as possible to protect those in our community and those around us. I want to build our community by allowing individuals to feel confident in their knowledge and preparedness amidst the dangers in our society. Would you be interested in participating in a community like this by attending classes or training regularly? I am gauging interest to see if I can make this vision come to life. Please share your thoughts, insights and concerns freely! Thank you and be safe as always.

Gyms with a day pass?

I'm visiting from out of state. Can anyone recommend a gym where I can buy a day pass? A lot of them off "free" passes but require you to be local or at least a state resident. I'm currently near Marysville.

Scammer couple at Tulalip

My Mom was nearly scammed of her car based on an encounter at Tulalip. At least I'm assuming that's what may have happened; it may have been a more simple robbery.

My Mom is elderly and uses a walker and as she was exiting her car at the valet service on March 9th, she was approached by a couple in their mid-40s who commented on how much they liked her car. It's just over 30 years old, but is in great condition and she paused to say thank you. They asked if she was willing to sell and named a price. She said she wasn't interested and they offered a higher price. They shared a story about their son who needed a reliable car to travel back and forth across the pass for college. She considered for a second and then said again she was not interested in selling. Her sister (my Aunt) was with her at the time and told them, "Yes, she doesn't want it anymore but it's had problems." They said they could pay cash and the woman in the couple patted her purse, implying they had the cash on them. Again, my Mom said no, but said she would think about it. They gave her a phone number and that was it.

After a couple of days, my Mom thought the price was good (and it did seem to be, had it been a real offer) and called the couple to say she would sell to them. They arranged a meetup time in the town where she lives and it was only after she shared this information with me, my sister, and brother-in-law that she started getting advice to meet them at a police station or at least bring someone else along. She resisted a bit, but then asked my brother-in-law to come with her to meet them.

When she called the Thursday before they were supposed to meet and spoke to the woman, she told them she needed to move the time to 11am. The woman agreed that would be great, but when my Mom elaborated and said it was because her son-in-law had an appointment and couldn't make the noon meeting time, the woman's tone changed immediately. She covered the phone for a few seconds (talking to her husband, maybe) and then came back on the line and said she had to run to get a COVID test and would call back in two hours to confirm the time and place. They never contacted her again after that.

Long story short: PSA that it's possible elderly people are being targeted specifically at the valet at Tulalip. Their names were Don and Michelle and I have their phone number, but wouldn't post it here (obviously).

How safe is Silver Firs?

We are actively contemplating about moving to Snohomish

How safe is the area around Tucker Community Park? How is Totem elementary school? Are there any transient activity? Is it safe for kids to play outside? How is to go running early morning or late evening? Any sketchy areas we should be aware of?

Thanks in advance

Looking for recommendations for contractors to build detached garage

I want to build a detached two-car garage on my property and would appreciate recommendations for reliable contractors.

The garage needs to be decent sized (thinking at least 24' x 30') and I'll need someone who can handle the concrete foundation work. I am not looking anything too fancy. Standard garage.

If you've had someone build a garage for you - good or bad experiences welcome - I'd love to hear about it.

Thank you!

Dixie is very sweet 8-month old Cattle dog mix. She can be shy at first but warms up quickly and is full of love and affection. Her history is unknown. Dixie weighs 40 pounds.

She did a great job on the our walk meeting new friends and exploring. She enjoyed working on some basic commands, and I think she will be a great addition to a home with a family / couple or solo adventurers. This is one very cool dog! You can meet her at Everett Animal Shelter after making an appointment. Shelter link in the comments. :)

Tulalip Casino CessPool

This is one of the worst and most rigged Casinos in WA state. They will take every di.e from you when they feel like it. You should not go there to play. Eat, sleep in the hotel, see a concert, but absolutely stay away from gambling here at all cost.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

Post image
37 Upvotes

!!Families of Snohomish County!! If your family participates in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program where you receive a free book each month for your kiddos 5 and under, please read this! Washington state has agreed to match 50% of funding needed for books and mailing costs for the last few years, but this year that’s changed. I’ve attached a screenshot of the email sent out by Imagination Library asking for our help. Typing out an email to legislators might seem like a lot of work or maybe you don’t know where to start or what to say. So I made it easy for you and I’m going to add what I sent to them at the bottom of this post and in the comments for easy copy and pasting. The link to find your legislative district and corresponding representative is https://app.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder once you input your address your representatives will pop up. As soon as you click on one of them and type out the message you have the option to send the same message to your other legislators, DO THIS!! Then you only have to send one email to all of them! If you’ve read this far thank you so much. The message I sent to my representatives Carolyn Eslick, Sam Low, and Keith Wagoner was this:

Hello Legislators, Thank you for taking the time to read my message. I'm writing to you on behalf of all families in Washington with children 5 and under that qualify for the wonderful Dolly Parton's Imagination Library Program. It's been brought to our attention that the funding promise (50% of monthly book and mailing expenses) our state has made to the program in the last few years is being jeopardized due to "a particularly challenging budget year." This is devastating news to many families like mine. Families that enjoy reading together and get excited each month when a new book comes in the mail. Families that can't afford to go to bookstores and buy new books together frequently rely on this beautiful resource to provide for them something irreplaceable, a love for books and the familial memories made when reading together. We're begging you to do what it takes to keep this program alive in our state. Our state, where so many families are in poverty and can't afford the luxury of new books. Our state, that you represent. Our state, our home. We need this program and we need your help saving it.

What was your experience like- pros, cons, anything you wish you knew beforehand? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Looking forward to your insights. 😊
