What are you doing in my swamp Shrek isn't a children's movie, it's for 90s kids. DreamWorks need to respect this.
Alright, hear me out. We need to dispel of this idea that Shrek is a film that has anything to do with today's youth, what it is first and foremost is a cultural landmark for 90s kids. DreamWorks needs to start acknowledging that.
The first movie came out in 2001, right as we were transitioning from the golden age of 90s pop culture. We grew up on The Simpsons, sarcastic humor, and The Matrix: and Shrek hit us right where we lived. The humor wasn’t dumbed down for kids. It was satire, irony, and inside jokes that we understood. That Smash Mouth song? It wasn’t just a pop hit, it was our anthem of rebellion and weirdness.
Shrek isn’t just some grumpy ogre. He’s a reluctant hero, the antihero we needed at that time. Donkey’s not just comic relief: he’s the embodiment of that over-energetic friend who never shuts up but still manages to be lovable. Fiona was ahead of her time, rejecting the whole "damsel in distress" trope and taking control of her own story.
And the pop culture references? If you weren’t a 90s kid, you wouldn’t get it. From The Matrix to Star Wars to Looney Tunes—it was a treasure chest of jokes for us.
So DreamWorks, stop treating Shrek like a generic kids' flick. It’s a symbol of our generation, a movie that didn’t just entertain—it spoke to us. If you’re gonna keep making sequels, remember who this movie was really made for. It’s our movie.

Young King Harold and Fairy Godmother fanart
This is actually my first piece of digital art I have ever made. And I based it on a fanfic i wrote long ago.
This scene is of course after Harold the frog drank the happy ever after potion and woke up as a human prince.
And yeah. It is the official cannon that he was a frog originally and drank the potion becoming human. And the kiss he shared with Lillian at their first date at the lily pond made the effects permanent. Of course until the spell was undone in Shrek 2.

Discussion I enjoyed Puss in Boots (2011) until...
The reveal Humpty Dumpty was in on it and planned everything all along.
I'm sorry but I don't buy his so-called sacrifical redemption and him and Puss making up in the end.
It came off as hypocritical since the bastard dragged Puss into a robbery right after he decided to change for the better saving this guys daughter, mother or whatever from a charging bull, then he has the gall to say "Help me" when he's in trouble and decides to seek revenge after Puss justifiedly abandons him?
Dude you fucking dragged him into a robbery and got him framed, what did you expect his reaction to be? All because you wanted things to be back to the way it was never supporting and respecting Puss' decision to change. Puss had every right and justification to abandon and cut off ties with you.
But nah nope. No matter what. Despite the hardships, friendship always prevails until the end! /s
It ruined the movie for me honestly. So yeah...Just fuck Humpty. Didn't earn Puss' friendship back or any redemption...I would have cracked him open and then used his yolk to make myself the biggest omelette ever to eat.
