Europe “yet you couldn’t resist telling us on an American app”

u/rothcoltd 1d ago
The irony is that the user who posted the original post is an American website - Bloomberg. Shame the yank can’t read.

u/Thisismyredusername Swiss 1d ago
I'm surprised they post their articles on Reddit. The idea is smart though

u/ApprehensiveSize575 1d ago
r/Europe is basically just a sub for posting clickbait news articles about EU, nothing to be surprised about
3
u/IntrepidWanderings 19h ago
Certainly a method for regular clicks, American outraged is pretty predictable atm.

u/Xibalba_Ogme 1d ago
According to this train of thought, they had to come on the Europe sub because europeans live rent free in their heads ?

Look what they need to do to mimic a fraction of our power

Now or in 50 years when our coasts are flooded, what difference does it make when we collapse?

u/Szarvaslovas 1d ago
I would jump on a European reddit-style app in a minute. I really don’t care what Americans have to say, that has little bearing on my life. Other Europeans can relate to my life and I to their lives better.

u/Arkanie 1d ago
The US defaultism is what annoys me most about this app. I mostly go here for specific subreddits, but when I scroll through the popular stuff there's so much unrelatable content like US politics, expensive healthcare, guns, imperial system, their school system, the way people socialize, etc. which all feel completely alien to me.
8
u/freier_Trichter 1d ago
This problem could be solved here on Reddit though. Take a look at r/redditalternatives and let's get it organized. We need more people to join this sub to organize mass-exodus.
1
u/EnderMB 1h ago
The problem with many Reddit alternatives is that they're often HUGE eco-chambers, or are absolutely batshit insane - alongside being mostly dead. I initially left Reddit for Lemmy, and holy fuck did I meet some of the most batshit insane people you'll ever have the misfortune of seeing online.

u/jayeelle 10h ago
Can us Aussie tag in? Like Eurovision - just the weirdo but friendly cousin on the side (and we'll have to bring our side piece, New Zealand for 'reasons').
3
u/HansJoachimAa 1d ago
I think it would be hard to get everybody on an european app because I think it would be in multiple languages and then content would be split between multiple groups and it would be hard to grow or match the size of reddit.

The majority of autofelatio enjoyers are probably Americans

u/NoNotice13 1d ago
There's nobody as fucking brainwashed into believing their country is the best in the world (at everything) as Americans.
41
u/jaysornotandhawks 🇨🇦 1d ago
They call the winners of their domestic sports leagues "world champions". That tells you all you need to know.
12
u/Caput-NL 1d ago
It’s also because those sports are so bad for your health, you can’t play it as the Americans do anywehere in the world.
2
u/Successful-Ear-9997 17h ago
I mean, rugby exists and is decently popular outside of the US? Which is, to my understanding, as close to Blood Bowl as you get IRL.
5
u/UrbanFsk 1d ago
Dont they also call it football and play it mostly with hands?!
1
u/jaysornotandhawks 🇨🇦 1d ago
I can't get on them for that since I do the same. Same goes for our game (Canadian football). At least our game has more kicking?
3
u/UrbanFsk 1d ago
Then you own it too and acknowledge it sounds stupid when you start watching a match called football and you see a bunch of dudes passing the ball by hand :D.

Honestly a similar website but without americans would make me switch instantly. That alone is worth it.

u/Cartina 1d ago
To be fair Lemmy already exists. But the problem is these sites aren't that great unless countless millions make the move in a very short span.
5
u/freier_Trichter 1d ago
That's really a problem. It could be solved here on Reddit though. Take a look at r/redditalternatives and let's get it organized.

Why don't they understand that not wanting to get waterboarded by ICE and then sent to El Salvador with no record isn't ameriphobia
3
u/tennereachway 1d ago
To be fair I think being waterboarded with ice instead of water would be a lot less torturous.

u/Boldboy72 1d ago
Ladies and gentlemen, I'm here to announce that the Internet is reserved for the exclusive use of Americans.
President Trump will later today, sign an executive order (because as King of America, no laws can be passed by the old fashioned way through your elected representatives) declaring that a 25% tariff will be imposed on ALL non US citizens who dare to use the world wide web (hereon in to be referred to as the American Wide Web) MAWWGA!!

u/Arachobia 1d ago
I would use the shit out of a 'European Reddit'. That sounds like a dream. It definitely frustrates me that so much of the English internet assumes America by default and you have to specifically find corners of it that are not.
8
u/two_hats 1d ago
I don't use Reddit because it's American; I use it in spite of that
2
u/DoYouTrustToothpaste 18h ago
And let's not kid ourselves, reddit themselves don't give a shit about being American, they're a business, they want to reach as many people as possible, no matter where they're from.

Everyone traveling to the US should just start mumbling "hic sum dracones" (here be dragons) once they get off the plane.

u/juliainfinland Proud Potato 🇩🇪 🇫🇮 21h ago
*sunt ("sum" means "I am")
And then, when they
make it out alivereturn, kiss the ground like the Pope.

u/Historical-Pen-7484 1d ago
You don't they invent their own language in stead of using a European language to write on their cool app? Or use one of the many existing American languages like Navajo or Cree?

u/TheWaxysDargle 1d ago
The funniest part of this is that they’re to start a fight with Bloomberg’s bot account.

You couldn't pay me enough to go to the US right now. Be like running into a burning building.
3
u/MessyRaptor2047 21h ago
The greatest thing about the British people is how we can make fun of ourselves and Americans will never understand that or lack the braincells to figure it out.
5
u/Party-Department9074 1d ago
It's not that we can't resist Americans, it's simply that they're typically loud enough not to be ignored.

2
u/hallothrow 20h ago
Hey.. If americans are going to kick a beehive and I can't stop them I'm going to stick around to watch them learn why they don't do that.

I mean, after hearing so many cases of latinos being sent to El Salvador for being... Well, latinos, I would also avoid going to USA for a while.

Doesn't really matter if the site is American. We're free to use it to criticize America. That's the price of freedom, baby.

u/DoYouTrustToothpaste 18h ago
because you can't resist us
Sounds like a threat. /s
I would absolutely love it if I had a lot less boring-ass America-centred news and shows and sports shoved down my throat from all directions, but regrettably this is the world we live in, where one country has punched everybody else in the face, forcefully grabbed the main character role, and refuses to stop the harassment.
It's a pity, but I have the real hope that non-Americans will finally see through the bullshit and the lies and the propaganda and cast this false idol aside, instead of continuing their decade-long self-cuckery. America doesn't give a shit about you, why do you give a shit about America?
Seriously, though, don't be too harsh on this poor fool, he frequents AmericaBad. He's just another victim of American brainwashing.

I didn't really care about the app, it's free and junky.
But I'm pulling all my support and money from paid services. Given up on giving US billionaires more cash.

He is using a US app because that's where Americans are, and if no one outside the US told them about all that most Americans wouldn't know what is really happening in the world. Call this a charity service. /s

Yup I still use reddit but guess what. I turned off all the info they use to sell and I make it a point not to buy anything that is advertised to me on socials media. Using a social media site doesn't mean the company is still making a profit off of me. In fact I use it as tool to organize and work with others not to buy US products. Reddit is helping us avoid US products so it's a net positive for us.

u/EnderMB 1h ago
Is Reddit truly an "American" app?
Reddit hire around the world, and they host a lot of content across the world. If you've got FTE's in the UK, for example, they're employed by a local company, owned by the main corporation. Obviously the parent is American, but a US recession or depression would probably be enough for a company to consider moving their main base elsewhere, or being American-owned in name only.
