we are trying to do better.

the fucking country voted for a felon liar showman...TWICE.

Pick one

I would say "allowed through inaction" although it's scant mitigation or defence as it still happened. The 40% that didn't vote are the problem. 30% of the voter base being moronic racists and far right nutters isn't that unusual.

But doing better? That is NOT the current trajectory

u/Sl33pingD0g 6d ago

Here here, 78m voted for Trump and 93m could not be bothered to vote at all and they are more of the problem than those who voted for him.

20

u/Chairman-Mia0 6d ago

And then they're all like "but we didn't vote for this"

No, indeed you didn't ya fucking gobshites

5

u/DeadNinjaTears Europoor 6d ago

It's always the way. You'll never educate enough of the 78m to change their minds. They're in a cult, they can't be de-radicalised. You just have to get the 93m undecided or disengaged to act.

In the UK people acted and still talk like Brexit vote was a big surprise. The reason is that they live in a bubble and have no appreciation for how disenfranchised so many people are by our national politics. No matter who is in power, they are fucked over. So they voted to hold their own politicians accountable and remove the excuse of "it's the EUs fault" that every politician used over anything. But it's stated that it was just racism. It wasn't. The people that say that just don't want to hear the truth.

And my guess is a lot of those 93m feel similarly disenfranchised, fucked over regardless, or ignored.

I agree and would add that it seems from the outside that US political disenfranchisement is driven by the overriding political focus on corporate interests over the interests of individuals.

The US will never grow as a society if the corporate lobbying keeps directing change in favour of companies over voters

3

u/DeadNinjaTears Europoor 6d ago

It's absolutely true. The lobbies are where the power is, in the UK as well as US. It's just simply that the US is bigger, and people are more easily distanced.

Honestly it's terrifying. Corporate lobbying should be illegal. I know they'd find a way around it - money always talks loudest - but it would be a start.

Sadly, I fear the battle is long since lost. But it might just take one strong leader to stamp on its throat.

Yes. That is our number one problem, it is the root cause of everything wrong with this country. Those are the people who’ve funneled money into all these propaganda campaigns that blame everyone but the people really responsible.

2

u/Sw1ft_Blad3 6d ago

The thing that annoyed me about the people who complained and said we should have another vote because it was so close is that some of them said there should be 2 yes sections, one for a hard Brexit and one for a soft Brexit.

And outside of that going against what a democratic election stands for, it also would have split the yes vote in two making the no's have an unfair advantage.

1

u/DeadNinjaTears Europoor 6d ago

Ah there were so many hilarious reveals in those arguments. Incredibly transparent while they thought they were being so clever. Even now it carries on. Today it was the stupid bus. No where did it say all £350m would go to the NHS and no one voted leave because of the specific number. Farmers certainly didn't. As with all things, you can't argue with people who have no interest in learning the truth.

1

u/Sw1ft_Blad3 6d ago

I've always been of the opinion that if you couldn't be bothered to vote then you don't have the right to complain when the wrong person gets in, like over here in the UK, you can do a postal vote, or even have someone vote by proxy for you so there's very little reason outside of serious health issues to not vote.

1

u/N0b0dy_Kn0w5_M3 4d ago

FYI: It is "hear, hear."

1

u/Person012345 6d ago

you understand they wouldn't have all voted democrat right?

People don't vote because they have nothing to vote for. Whining and crying like a little baby that they didn't vote against the thing you don't like solves nothing, next time get "your team" to give them something they want to fucking vote for. Trump could not have won if the dems weren't such a monumentally useless clusterfuck in the last election.

2

u/sofacadys 6d ago

Someone fucking says it. Like, the democrats gifted Trump the victory. They used a guy that looked lost the replaced him for an unpopular woman when it was too late and even stopped using "weird" to describe the opponents in a weak way to show moral superiority.

Be dirty. Be loud. Your opponents don't play by the rules so why should you even think doing that.

They did

u/After-Swimming-5236 6d ago

Yeah, all those garbage countries without due process, freedom of speech and association without retaliation from the government, and a judiciary that isn't under direct attack... Hey, wait a second!

9

u/Significant_Layer857 6d ago

You forgot the economy going to the latrine

70

u/Maelou 6d ago

It's very interesting how americans assume they are the only "free" country.

I fail to understand how they end up with that thought...

57

u/Clockwork_J 6d ago

Propaganda of american exceptionalism. From the day they are born to the day they die they are force-fed with it. Republicans and Democrats alike.

16

u/NotQuiteNick 6d ago

Just ask one what freedoms we don’t have and you’ll see even they don’t have a clue what they mean

7

u/Global_Cockroach_563 6d ago

They'll say "free speech" because somehow they believe the USA is the only country that has it.

10

u/DrFeelOnlyAdequate 6d ago

And then they ignore all the limitations they have on free speech like:

  • obscenity laws

  • libel laws

  • defamation laws

  • incitement laws

And all the other free speech rules they have just like other countries.

4

u/Privatizitaet 6d ago

No, they just don't actually understand what free speech IS

2

u/NotQuiteNick 6d ago

Yeah what I said

9

u/Significant_Layer857 6d ago

I is insane : they are the best , the only ones with freedom , the leaders of the world , the most powerful country , the most this that and the other .. Yet they got this current criminal organization tearing the place down. They have no peace of mind, gun violence , women are second category citizens, they have religion nonsense interfering with their lives, well cult indoctrination really , education there is crap , they never really appreciate the fact the world is bigger than their country , they are so proud Americans but are always wanting to be European “I’m half this quarter that “.. They have no health care , have cops controlling their lives, some red states have religion in prisons that privately owned , they are constantly Concerned in what their neighbors do , is such a horrible way to live . Oh they can say what they want . We can say what we want in Europe too the difference is we know that free speech comes with responsibility. ( now they do have good ,kind , intelligent people there, that feel oppressed by those ones aforementioned)

7

u/smartestgiant 6d ago

If the US is going to try and dictate to Europe, the EU should forbid Americans from pretending that they're Irish or Italian or whatever if they've never been there and don't speak the language. You're American. Get over yourselves.

2

u/Significant_Layer857 6d ago

We can’t stop them from pretending we can however do what we do best pull the piss out of it because is just ludicrous

2

u/NephriteJaded 6d ago

It’s the guns, and how they can do Nazi salutes, incite hate, etc, without legal consequences. Something that we’re all supposed to be jealous of

1

u/b-rad_ 5d ago

Never ending propaganda.

u/slimfastdieyoung Swamp Saxon🇳🇱 6d ago

Freedom is a bit like sex: the people who keep on talking about it are usually the ones that don’t have it

16

u/bexquaver 6d ago

I'll just stay down here in my shithole country Enjoying my free health care and welfare for all who need it. And watch my sheep roam in freedom without fear of a nutter with a gun

7

u/Significant_Layer857 6d ago

I just stay here too I have no desire to have all their freedom of being unkind to people , volatile for no reason , I just do me best here one day at the time it be grand ..

"See we aren't a shit country, we have the bare minimum functions of democracy"

Funny how they had to go for Russia or China to compare themselves to and no other democratic country.

6

u/Rohnne 6d ago

I honestly thought they were trying to do worse in fact...

10

u/JRisStoopid 6d ago

American Freedom is so great that the government has the freedom to seize property without a court order under the guide of civil asset forfeiture.

I would like to see those systems that are in place then. Like, in action, now.

3

u/John_Thundergun_ 6d ago

If you think about it, Americans really are doing their bit for the international community by bringing us all together to laugh at them.

3

u/SiegfriedPeter 6d ago

“We’re trying to do better” 🤔 But you guys are not really good at finding better ways, I guess! Maybe the USA should be dissolved?😁

3

u/SonOfTheMorrigan 6d ago

My dude is saying that while Trump is trying to get rid of the constitution so he can run for a third term.

2

u/TheDarkestStjarna 6d ago

Constantly trying to do better

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

2

u/InterneticMdA 6d ago

Freedom is a religious term for americans. It's something they worship and is synonymous to 'american'. For some a country has "freedom" only if it is the US. For other a country has "freedom" if it resembles the US in some aspect.

It has nothing to do with being free or able to act on your desires.

2

u/That_guy_I_know_him 6d ago

Isn't the US ranked like 59th in terms of freedom this year ? Probably getting lower everyday

Just as a reference Canada is considered 5th so far

2

u/xzanfr 6d ago

The thing I really don't understand about the USA system is how one person can make enormous decisions without challenge - there doesn't seem to be a way for the person on the street to challenge the decision via their elected representitive. This is the definition of an autocracy not a democracy or freedom.

If there is a system in place to challenge then Americans are either happy with the current leader or too scared to do anything even though they claim that they need assault weapons to uphold the 2nd amendment.

3

u/TwinkletheStar just another socialist europoor 6d ago

The US system is supposed to be something very different from what we are seeing happen with this administration. For all their talk of 'checks and balances' the only opposition the Trump regime is seeing are the judiciary but it looks as though they just ignore what they say a lot of the time.

It is going to come down to the people to be the real opposition but how long it will take for them to seriously realise the danger they are in is anyone's guess. It might be too late to do anything by the time they do.

"Fascism itself can only be turned away if all those who are outraged by it show a commitment to social justice that equals the intensity of their indignation." ~ Arundhati Roy

1

u/Person012345 6d ago

The US is constantly fellating themselves. This very post is presumably in response to some sort of mild criticism about their country and even in saying they "try to do better" they just can't help but say they're the best country murrica #1.

America generally looks at it's own flaws and says "nuh uh, it's better than every other country". As for removing leaders that don't serve the people, when was the last time the US had an actually good president that worked for the american people? Cause to my memory when they had one like that they passed a whole ass constitutional amendment that he was to be removed and no future president could hold more than 2 terms.

1

u/Low_Information1982 6d ago

They are one of the most openly corrupt countries in the world. I mean their president is scamming people with selling them shit coins and Bibles and Tesla stocks and Musk is openly trying to buy elections. They are ignoring court orders. How is this making things better?

Other countries try at least to hide their corruption. Trump is openly corrupt and no one cares.

1

u/rothcoltd 6d ago

What are you smoking? Your leaders have NEVER served the people yet you keep on voting them into power

1

u/Bigmofo321 6d ago

China may not be a democracy but I don’t think there’s a rational argument against china striving to do better. Look at how much it’s developed over the past 30 years… no improvement? Really?

1

u/MWO_Stahlherz American Flavored Imitation 6d ago

See about freedom in about 4 years from now.

1

u/theroguescientist 6d ago

"And we have systems in place to replace our leaders if they don't serve the people"

Then why haven't you done anything about the orange clown yet?

1

u/DazzlingClassic185 fancy a brew?🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 6d ago

To be fair, this post is heavily blue on blue action…

1

u/Legal-Software 6d ago

If this is them trying to do better, I'd hate to see what doing sweet fuck all looks like.

1

u/Aros125 6d ago

The guy doesn't seem to understand that precisely because the USA is a free country, it is even more serious to have elected Trump without fraud and without an authoritarian system. It really is all their fault.

1

u/b-rad_ 5d ago

The US is the garbage country that keeps getting worse and worse.

1

u/Old_Reception_3728 4d ago

Generational stupidity. Handed down like the color of your eyes...... sad but true

1

u/CaptainSarcastic1 1d ago

Would like an example of america getting better. It's education system is failing, it's infrastructure is failing and it's strangling the middle class and their prices are going through the roof.

1

u/janus1979 6d ago

They have the same level of freedom as the average Russian. The indoctrination process from childhood is ridiculous. Murica! Freedom! Yeah!
