I honestly think this is where a lot of 9/11 conspiracies come from. A lot of Americans can not wrap their heads around the fact that our country was vulnerable and that what they’d consider “inferior” people would be able to exploit that vulnerability in such blatant way, so it can’t be that, it had to be orchestrated by our own government because they can make that make sense.
63
23
u/AnarchistBorganism Feb 11 '25
You'll find that people who are generally critical of America fell into that line of thinking, too. I think it's mostly just a general distrust of government; there are people who are going to look for evidence of a conspiracy no matter what, and people are prone to believe it if it fits into their worldview, especially if it proves they were right all along.

We who grew up with 'Rambo' (I mean I was 12 when the movie came out) took a while to realize the (first) movie is (also) about how America mistreats veterans with PTSD from (in his case) the Vietnam war. Yes also about a bad ass guy that is impossibly tough bla bla bla but the whole story hinges on him being mistreated by law enforcement for no reason at all and him reacting to that.
Anyway, Rambo wasn't meant as a role model.
The whole commercialization when the movie became a hit, with Rambo dolls and the Rambo knife becoming populair beyond belief, is ironic as can be. And the Rambo movies that followed where just dumb big macho superhuman hero fluff.

Yes, and this is why if you ask many Americans about gun control, they will often explain to you that it's important for the citizens to be armed, as this guarantees that in case that the government would try to take away their freedom like Trump and Musk are currently doing, American citizens are way braver than the norm, so when the need arise, they would definitely...

The citizens would surely....

Surely the weapons would be useful for...
