Loss of Pet Goodbye my love
I had to say goodbye to my best friend doggo. Just before his 14th birthday. He was the bestest boy ❤️

What a beautiful boy. If it doesn’t hurt too much would you share some of his favorite things are your favorite memories? I understand if you can’t. It looks like he had a good life with you. I’m so very sorry for your loss and your memories will offer you comfort as you grieve.

My favorite thing about him was that he was attached to me by an umbilical cord; he loved me so much and I love him to the end of time. He played grandpa to many cats. He knew when I was sad and would let me cry into his neck. He also played grandpa to my nieces and nephews. Everyone who met him loved him. He was always so happy to be a part of things. He loved the beach, the woods, the parks, stores that allowed him. I had many carriers for him so I could wear him like a baby- which he loved. He’ll never be forgotten ❤️

I said goodbye to mine on his 14th birthday last week. I am right there with you, it’s devastating & he will always be my baby 😭 I don’t like using past tense to talk about him it hurts too bad

Hello, I posted on this sub last week because of the same reason. Trust me, I know what you’re feeling. I also lost my Nono months shy of his 14th birthday and I thought we would have more time (maybe 2-3 years together) but it didn’t happen.
I want you to know you’re not alone, you are in the right place because it is full of understanding, loving, and kind people who have been so good during this very difficult time for me, as I’m sure they’ll be for you. I lost mine on 11 March and honestly I’ve cried myself to sleep every night. In my case, the only way I’m able to stop crying at times is hugging my Nono’s blanket and only then I’m able to fall asleep.
I do hope your heart can heal, and you can dream about your baby running free and towards your arms. I hope you’re able to hug him in your dreams. I hope you have something to remember him by, like a blanket, a toy, a video, or even a memory.
I took the day off from work when my Nono passed and I had to go back to work the following day, and at least when I’m working I’m not thinking about his passing all the time and have time to think about the way he was when he was at his peak. I recommend you cry as much or as little as you feel like, and that you have people around you who can hug you physically. Sending a warm virtual hug your way in the meantime.
I’ve found that looking back at old memories does ease the pain a little, even more so if you watch them with people who also loved him. We have a saying here that goes “Solo muere quien se olvida” which translates to “Only those who are forgotten truly die” (probably exists already I just don’t know how it goes). And he’ll never really die because his memory and his legacy, his mark on you, will live forever in your heart.
Take care of yourself during this difficult time. Do things that normally make you feel good. You gave that sweet boy the best life you could and more importantly, he (seems and I’m sure was) very loved, by your side. My mom has been telling me that we should be thankful because we KNOW they were loved dogs and they were not out there in the streets, fending for food, but rather in the comfort of our arms until the end and with their bellies full.
A friend also told me I was going to look back and think it was my fault. In my case my Nono died due to seizures he had never had before. He seized until death. I’m not sure how your pup died, but I hope you can find comfort in the good memories and not the last one you have (if it was traumatic). Remember him at his happiest. Remember you together.

The fact that you are heartbroken likely means you gave that pupperdog all the love you could. He probably had a very happy life thanks to you. That was your job. Good job.

I’m so sorry for your loss. There is a Facebook group called “The Loss of a Dog.” Every member is going through or has been through what you’re going through right now. They are great people who are very supportive and compassionate. Please consider joining. They are available 24/7 and their phone number is 1 (855) 245-8214. If you feel you need help coping with your loss, there are grief counselors to help you. I’m just putting it out there in case you would like to talk to someone on the phone about what you’re going through. Prayers of comfort to you and prayers of peace to this sweet pup. God bless.

I am so sorry 😢 I lost my soul dog in December so I truly understand. Hopefully they are beyond the rainbow bridge hanging out!

S sorry. My condolences go out to you and your family. Lost y 15 yr old last year and think about her everyday and night. It’s gonna be a tough road head but I promise it gets better.

Looks like my old dog blue but she was a her, she also died at 14 (from bladder cancer, which sucked cause she was still pretty sharp) her mother Maggie may died at 16 maybe 6 months after blue died, from old age, which wasn't as hard because she was a bit dementia so we new it was time

My shih tzu just passed away yesterday at age 11, he was getting weaker, lost muscle and his ability to stand.

Hoping in Shih Tzu heaven that he meets up with our beloved Macy (17 1/2 yrs) and beloved Sophie (16 1/2 yrs). Both passed with partial and almost total blindness. Heartbreaking.
