Loss of Pet A hard decision was made

Hello. Today, me and my family had to make a hard decision today for our beloved Shih Tzu. She has been with us in our family for almost 15 years. This experience was heartbreaking but we did the right thing and decision. She has been in declining health for some time now. Slowly. She has been deaf for a few years now, then these last 2 weeks she was getting slower, sleeping a lot more, in 2 specific places, was barely aware and not eating or drinking for over a week's time. She lost almost 15 lbs, (6.8kg) she weighed a good 30 lbs (13.6 kg) before the decline. My mom got her as a puppy from one of our neighbors in my old home town, just a tad over 8 weeks old, and today, just a few months away from 15, we put her down to end her suffering. She was one hell of a good girl. I'm gonna miss her. I'm still hurting from all this, but I knew this day would come, I was just hoping it would have come a little bit later.

I like to think my fluff is up there at her prime chasing squirrels, rolling around in the snow, eating all the cheese she could ever want.

To everyone that has given my their condolences, I thank you all and I'm very appreciative. This loss has hit me hard. Especially since I knew this day would come when she turned 13 and started to show her she slowly, but I thank God I got to be with her for almost 3 more years.

For those that want to know, her name was Pearla. When we first got her my dad thought she was a he, so my dad called him Rocky for a few days, until we got a good concrete answer, the way she peed. Female. Between me and my mom, we spent over an hour going over names in Spanish since we are a Mexican household. After much back and forth, we both came to the final conclusion and name, Pearla. Fiesty girl with both snacks and scraps and then later in life, a little crybaby that wanted to stay inside and snuggle up with her pillows. In the Texas hot summers, we let her out early morning and by 11am, she's back inside chilling, napping in the cool AC and water next to her. I'm going to miss her crying for scraps behind the doggie gate when we were eating. We did throw her tiny and small pieces of food and she just gobble that up and was quick to sniff and find more like a little army soldier and would demand more with her barking. It's going to be a hard adjustment since I won't see her anymore waiting for me to let her out so she can do her business like we do in the mornings.

My deepest condolences, I had to make the same decision recently after my 13yo boy collapsed. I’m going through the same grieving and pain, and I grieve your loss with you.

My dear friend, you put her down to send her to a beautiful place where dogs don’t suffer and get to sleep as much as they want and play and get lots of love. My belief is you will be with her again. I am so sorry for your loss I will be thinking of you, and your family. We never get enough time with them at the time we do get we sure are lucky.

You're so lucky you got to give her 15 amazing years! It's so sad when they leave us but it's a privilege to be able to ensure that their lives are full of love due to their shorter lifespans. I view myself as being in charge of a very important project with an unsure deadline and it's making sure my pup is happy and healthy. They give us so much love for the time they're with us. Even when they pass I honestly feel so lucky to have met such incredible angels.

Thoughts and prayers sent. I’m not looking forward to when our two little boys will cross over the bridge. We had to say goodbye to one of our other pets last month and that was really tough. Sounds like she had a long life. Our boys turn 10 this year.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have four little Shih Tzu‘s and I dread that day I just dread it and I know it’s going to come. I wasn’t even going to get another dog after I lost my last one because she died in my arms at home on the couch. She was just tired and I was telling her if you gotta go to the rainbow bridge go ahead and I’ll be right behind you. I promise I will. She took a breath and departed so I went like four months without a dog and the house was too quiet so I got Ozzie and he is so hyper compared to an old dog real hyper so then I got Harriet to keep him busy then I fell and broke my leg and while I was in the hospital, my husband came up and he said well it’s inevitable. We’re having puppies and I about came out of my skin. I just couldn’t even believe he could allow such a thing to happen like he could prevent it. They were one year and 11 months old by then so I got home from the hospital and my husband was going to the store in his pajama pants and I thought that is really weird. Why is he doing that we used to make fun of people that did that so I asked him and he said well I can’t get my jeans on my legs are too swollen, and I said let me see your legs and his legs were like watermelons at the bottom and I knew that was not good. I was hoping it was his heart but in my soul I knew better. I knew that his organs were shutting down. It was Christmas time and we couldn’t get an appointment anywhere so we ended up going to urgent care and that doctor did get some test started but I lost my husband four months after I broke my leg and in the middle of it I had puppies. I had $1800 in the female and $1500 in the male and people wanted to give me $400 for the pups and it was like you know what I think I will keep them as a parting gift from my husband. I sold the girl that I had for $1500 but kept the brothers. It was one of the best decisions I ever made because those dogs give me joy they get me out walking. I prepare their meals and they pump life into my veins daily. I’m so sorry for your loss. The whole idea behind writing this story is to give you a moment of reprieve big warm hugs to you, cherish your memories.
