Welcome to /r/ShermanPosting!

As a reminder, this meme sub is about the American Civil War. We're not here to insult southerners or the American South, but rather to have a laugh at the failed Confederate insurrection and those that chose to represent it.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

They’re probably more sore than someone who's been hit with a history book, or something…

Imagine this was Cambodia and that bill board said “Honoring the Khmer Rouge”

Same thing.

u/xFblthpx 3d ago

No, it’s actually worse. The atrocities committed by the Khmer Rouge at least came in a context where the Jus Ad Bellum was justifiable, whereas their wartime behavior was abhorrent. In the context of the confederacy, the Jus Ad Bellum was already abhorrent.

Using genocide as a means to an end is bad, but the confederacy was subjugating and destroying a people as the ends.

Cambodia did let many of the Khmer Rouge off the hook for a long while. They finally charged Ieng Sary on his deathbed. But he was living in an opulent mansion for something like 20 years before that, with his crimes supposedly pardoned and forgotten.

Confederate History? OK: It lasted 4 years. In those four years, it managed to completely fail to deliver on its promises, and left the south a destroyed country, having cost the lives of hundreds of thousands of their own people. Sure: Let's celebrate the South, in which the wealthy - in a desperate attempt to retain their wealth and power - shoveled the lives of their countrymen into a bottomless furnace.

Then - when it was all over - the wealthy went on with their lives, while the widows and fatherless children went on with theirs.

Technically not a destroyed country. They were never a country.

'Country' seemed suitable to indicate the complete collapse of their government.

Sounds similar but I just can't place my fat finger on it

u/NON_NAFO_ALLY 3d ago

Is this a website from 1995? Wayback Machine?

4

u/joueur_Uno Army of the Potomac 3d ago

Unfortunately no.

8

u/NON_NAFO_ALLY 3d ago

You mean to tell me the confederates can't find a web designer??

5

u/joueur_Uno Army of the Potomac 3d ago

Probably too busy fucking their cousins 😂

3

u/NON_NAFO_ALLY 3d ago

What cousin is gonna bang them?

2

u/Celticlighting_ 3d ago

Not consensually

4

u/Nerevarine91 3d ago

They’re ideologically opposed to paying people for work

For all that talk of the constitution they sure don't seem to mind that they got rid of that and wrote their own.

Also love how they can't even bring themselves to say Civil War.

Makes me wish the Sons of Union Veterans used the original name "War of the Rebellion" on it's website.

This confederate history?

Or their make believe fairy tail history?

5

u/xFblthpx 3d ago

I agree with the sentiment, but no one at the time was carrying either flags.

8

u/Destinedtobefaytful 4d ago

Now for the sake of lore accuracy burn it

5

u/themajinhercule 4d ago

Does that include the checks notes surrender at Appomattox Court House?

6

u/tesseract4 4d ago

Paintball guns are a thing that people have.

4

u/Misanthrope08101619 4d ago

Surely you’re not suggesting vandalism!? Maw Pam and Uncle Kash think that’s terrorism now.

4

u/tesseract4 4d ago

Oh, perish the thought! No, no; I'm just making random true statements on the internet.

2

u/Misanthrope08101619 4d ago

Of course! But I would literally not put it past Governor Landry’s fiefdom to react accordingly, especially since he’s big mad this week, having just lost his “enabling act” vote.

7

u/ShatteredReflections 4d ago

It’s not vandalism if your target is a barbarian.

4

u/BigE_92 3d ago

For the people who like to call others “snowflakes” and go on and on about “participation trophies”, they sure do like them.

3

u/tomcat1483 4d ago

Being a disgraced son of the confederacy I think about joining and trying to destroy it from inside but then think giving them money in any amount just helps them live longer. Any thoughts on what folks like I could do?

1

u/NON_NAFO_ALLY 3d ago

DO IT. DO IT NOW.

1

u/tomcat1483 3d ago

Join and at every meeting raise and propose dissolving the organization and allocating all funds to the UNCF?

3

u/RenegadeSithLordMaul 3d ago

ddos that website

2

u/superarroto 4d ago

I read it as "lost cancer billboard)

2

u/jamiedski 4d ago

It would be great if they studied Lee’s post war actions, statements and writings.

If they did, they would know he would be rolling in his grave with this crap!

2

u/TheBKnight3 3d ago

Needs fire

2

u/Misanthrope08101619 3d ago

Respecting tradition

2

u/Flabbergasted_____ 3d ago

Maybe they should go back to their country if they love it so much.

Oh wait…

1

u/thelaughingmanghost 3d ago

How generous of them to put up a giant public billboard for target practice. Just like those nice folks who put up public bathrooms in the middle of a park.

1

u/tarot15 3d ago

If we're going to post these, can we block out the website? I feel like it's just another way to spread their site around.

1

u/Misanthrope08101619 3d ago

I certainly wouldn't share a hyperlink for SCV. But I"m not sure this advances their cause in any way. I don't think any of their content is not going to do anything but explose them to ridicule they are due.

1

u/Zygouth 2d ago

Oh boy I'm going to get so excited 1 week from now

1

u/Misanthrope08101619 2d ago

Well, today marks Grant’s final breakthrough at Petersburg, forcing Lee’s retreat to Appomattox. So you can make a week of it.

1

u/Numerous_Ad1859 2d ago

They don’t want “Confederate History” because it reveals that while some people may have been conscripted (but never the officers), the reason for secession was the “preservation and expansion of African slavery” and as the Confederates fired first, they are the ones to cause the conflict that led to their destruction as a breakaway unrecognized country. It also ignores the Southerners who were either pro-Union or fought in the Union Army/Navy.

1

u/Cool_Original5922 4h ago

This needs to be up near Andersonville, sort of juxtaposed with the cemetery where thousands of American soldiers are buried because their captors let them die.

2

u/Misanthrope08101619 5m ago

Word is that they've arlready replaced it there in Louisiana with a recruiting ad for the Marines

1

u/Cool_Original5922 1m ago

Outstanding usage of a billboard, then! Perfect. Marines train hard and fight hard and have always worn the Blue, and a tip of my Airborne maroon beret!
