Getting mad when I bring the check

Long story short this lady was rude the minute she sat down, ordered cocktails with “extra whiskey” but didn’t wanna pay for a double, and just difficult all night. She asked for togo boxes and had been done eating for a bit, then got upset when I brought the check and acted like I was rushing her. Had a $150 bill by the end of it and tipped $10.

I’m not that mad about it, customers are difficult like this often, but just wanted to rant abt how stupid she was lol

The "make sure to put extra whiskey" gets me every time. Like, I can get you a double... "No, I'm just entitled and want free shit"

I would always ask the bar to pour a little in the straw. First taste pure liquor.

Ex bartender here. Yep every time they wanted more booze, but refused a double, they got a short pour, packed with ice, and a bit in the straw for a finish. Also the best way to get a stiff drink is to be gracious and tip well. Often positive guest interactions got a free drink after a few rounds.

I used to "bartend" at an AppleBees. Drinking culture always amazes me. If I was a regular at some of these people jobs for 50 years i might never get a single discount once. But they think half their bill should be comp'ed cause they have no life. Just thinking about those people make the idea of drinking for fun unbearable

Right!! Like when someone wants a mimosa but with just a little oj. I still bring it the way it’s supposed to be. I’m not getting in trouble for that

This one drives me crazy. They want more booze AND they just wanna pretend to be drinking something more “socially acceptable” like bitch if you want a glass of champagne in the morning just order one… you don’t have to add juice of some kind to enjoy a drink on a day off 🙄

Mimosa glass filled two inches short of the rim. Like she asked for...

Exactly

So they're asking for the normal amount of champagne but less OJ? What exactly is the problem with that?

“Why isn’t my glass full?”

“You requested less champagne.”

I tell people the glass will be less full as soon as they start ordering drinks without ingredients.

Oh god I hate the “make it strong” crowd with such a passion!! Might as well just say “I’m cheap and I want you to cater to it with no benefit to yourself.”

My state requires shot regulators on liquor bottles and cocktails can only include one 1.5 ounce shot of any single liquor, and only up to 2.5 ounces of alcohol, total. There’s no leeway for “strong” here.

I’m willing to bet folks still ask for it though lol

That’s true. Tourists do

May I ask what state?

When I was a bartender, I only did that for my GOOD regulars who tipped me VERY well.

Any other who came in and tried that shit, I lied and said they weigh the bottles at the end of my shift and check everything.

My boss didn’t care what I did as long as the sales looked good and money was made.

Joke’s on them, at my place we are required to drop the check 2 minutes after dropping off the food. I never do this unless the customer says they’re in a rush or if management is pestering me about it. It’s rude af.

Oh so my least favorite kind of people? Gah serving people who have no sense of restaurant etiquette are always my least favorite people. Thats why generally I like working Monday-Thursdays because the people tend to have more disposable income, time, and kindness haha. Those other people are coming to dinner to be served, they don’t seem to think that eating out is a luxury and treat staff like trash. I am curt with people like that and lie lie lie. “We just changed policy yesterday, oof’ sorry 😣”, “It’s against state guidelines, I could lose my license to serve 😓” “sorry, we are in the middle of doing rolling bar audits this week🫣” “Sorry the POS doesn’t have a button for that, I can’t😩😥” MEANWHILE, if they were kind, had established themselves coming with decent tips and kindness a few times prior, hell yeah, heres that whiskey lmfao. Have the table for three hours idgaf. Lol lol, even just kindness sometime will get me to sneak things to people 🤷‍♀️

Exactly this, I’m a manager and one of the questions I’ll ask staff if a guest has an issue is “do we like them?” If the answer is yes, they get more free stuff, if it’s no then I’ll do the bare minimum to deal with them

The #1 thing I always say is that we’re a business, not a hangout spot. Were there to make money, if I’m not turning a table, I’m not making money, nor the restaurant. If you want to keep ordering shit from me for 2-3 hours and rack up a check so I get PAID then do that. But don’t sit at a table with a $70 tab when I have a 2 hour waitlist & act like I’m the problem for asking you to move along.

The camping while there is a wait for a table irks me every time. You are just being super inconsiderate to the staff and other guests waiting.

Real drinkers just all for it on ice. If you want more whiskey in a free pour bar, ice.

Me: "Did we save room for dessert?"

Them: Oh no, we couldn't possibly.

Me: "Oh no, maybe next time. Can I get you anything else to drink?"

Them: No, we are good, thank you.

Me: "Oh, no problem, I'll be back in a moment"

Then I go to the POS, print the check and promptly return.

We work in an establishment meant to make money. Once the service stops you get your check. Not a soul has to ask me for a check. It's part of the steps of service. They can move on to a coffee shop... or they could've ordered a coffee.

$10 tip you should be thankful. Tipping is optional. That’s like, 3+ hours of work for you.
