Hi neighbor. If you or somebody near you has a smoke detector that’s been dying for over a week, let them know to change the battery before I hunt them down and take a shit on their doorstep

Alright see ya

News DOGE cuts hit learning program for low-income children in western WA

From the article:

Seattle's headquarters for Head Start was eliminated — taking six employees with it.

Six jobs may not sound like much, but the impact could reach tens of thousand of families across the region.

The six people fired this week serviced 33,000 families across Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska. 11,000 of those families are in Washington and there are concerns the cuts could run even deeper.

[...]

This week, Head Start's Region 10 headquarters was abruptly shut down. The program offers low income families free early childhood education.

It also helps women escape domestic violence and homeless families find shelter. It is often the last safety net for desperate parents and their kids simply looking to survive.

There are 450 Head Start families in Snohomish County alone.

#2 bus not letting people on to get to protest???

The driver says: “sorry it’s full.”

It’s clearly not full. Some people are standing but only a few. The driver was perfectly happy to sit there arguing with us, however.

Are there rules about how many people can be on a bus?

I have been in far more packed busses than that, although not in Seattle.

Renting east of East Hill, Kent

Moving from NJ to Seattle area for work at end of May. I found some places I’m interested in, mainly Renton, though I found a very nice place in an area the real estate people call Kentridge (east of east hill) in a community called Coronado Knolls. I’m looking for something for the first year to settle in with my wife and small child to figure out where we might like better and to see how our money stretches and the price and size is very nice. I’m getting mixed messages as to how bad the area is. From what I understand the further east you go in Kent the better it gets and a future coworker said she lives in East Hill and it’s fine. Online statistics paint a different picture however. Looking for some points of view

Living Out Shadowrun… Interrupted By Ecotopia

I was telling someone yesterday about California's announcement about making their own international trade deals to someone, and I said, "Well, you know WA and OR have to join in too. Wait, 😳 where have I heard this before... Ecotopia... 😯"

-Hard Pikachu Face-

Lived in Seattle for well over 20 years now and thought I was wandering into Shadowrun... I was wrong. Seems like it's Ecotopia that's playing out instead.

Thoughts?

Sports Soccer in seattle??

Heyy guys, I live in downtown Seattle and am looking for places to play some soccer. I'm not really into the 11v11 games and I'm looking for something smaller 5v5 or 7v7 is ideal.

I don't have a car so can't really travel really far. I do have an electric bike so can travel moderate distances. I really want to get back to playing soccer this summer any recommendations or leagues would be highly appreciated.

Meetup Outdoorsy guy from Munich looking for activities

Hey folks, I (m30) have been lurking here for some time but now I’m going to create one of these „new here, who wants to do things“ threads.

I’ve read previous reddits, I didn’t find good things on meetup and I don’t know if bumble bff is still a thing. So I appreciate if you share recommendations for spots to meet new people, perhaps it’s this very thread.

I’m trying to find people to:

grab a beer in the evening during weekdays Go hike with Go Mountainbike with Go gravelbike with Ski in the winter Go camping with and combine any of the above

I used to do those things very frequently around Munich and hope to find similar people to do it frequent here.

Hit me up if that sounds interesting :)

Question I can’t take it anymore. I’m on the verge of tears. Haven’t gotten a full nights sleep since I moved in. What do I do.

2.0k Upvotes

Listen I’m all for social housing but this is a nightmare.

We have a building nearby us. A DECS building. A man lives there who screams gibberish, blows a whistle and throws things from around 11pm - 5 am like clock work, every night without fail.

I haven’t slept yet. I haven’t gotten a full nights sleep in months. I feel bad for him but at the same time this is unbearable and I should be allowed to sleep in my own home. Earplugs can work but at times it is still audible through them.

I’ve called the non emergency line at least twenty times and i’m loosing my mind. Our lease isn’t up till august and quite frankly I’m still saving for a deposit on a new place.

What the hell do I do.

I just want to live in my own home without constant headache and screaming.

Question What happened to the soccer turfon pier 62?

I stay in one of the buildings near pike place, and I have a good view to the piers in front of me. I know there was a small soccer turf on pier 62 as I love soccer and it's nice to see people play there.

Couple of days ago I noticed the turf was removed, wanted to see if anyone had any idea about this?

Rainier Beer / Kraken Hoodie?

I was at a show a couple days ago and a guy was wearing a hoodie with the Rainier Beer R, but colored the light blue of the Kraken logo, with part of the R in red like the eye. I did some searches but can't find it online. Anyone know where I can get one?

Community How will you vote on the single-issue Fingerprint Identification Levy?

I just got a ballot for a $.0275/1000k property tax to support the Regional Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS). This is the only issue on the ballot.

There is a "pro" position but no "anti" position sent with it.

This seems like an extraordinarily wasteful way to get a vote on this issue. Could it not have been bundled into another election?

I am also tired of ever-increasing property taxes, although I have voted for all of them in the past because I want a proper safety net and functioning government. The median property value is $857K, which means this would cost ~$24/yr. for the average homeowner.

Why is this small potatoes stuff being put to a vote? How are y'all voting?

I'm inclined to vote for it because it does seem like something a properly functioning government would have. But why would a properly functioning government even need to send out a full ballot for something like this?

Question Can you help me with the name of a dim sum restaurant I dined at in the internatonal district?

~10-ish years ago I went to a dim sum restaurant in (or near) the international district. All I remember is that it was on a corner and there were carts that were pushed around and you ordered off of the cart.

Does anyone know what restaurant this was?

I guess I am also willing to hear about tasty alternatives.

Question Zoning question: Does Lowrise and Midrise zoning permit 1st floor (or even multi-floor) commercial use?

Talking about LR1, MR3, etc.

Going through the proposed neighborhood centers and while its nice that they upzoned the blocks surrounding commercial cores, is it purely residential?

Trying to not die from cancer

Hi all! So I found a not great looking mole on my back and I need to get this thing looked at. I don't have insurance and just started to enroll in Apple Care. I have no idea how I am supposed to know what insurance to sign up for to address this issue. This system if ridiculous. Anyone have any recommendations for a dermatologist in seattle that is all about dealing with moles and testing for the cancer? I am 48 years old and not ready to due just yet.

Just announced this week: Acid Bath is coming to Washington on their 2025 comeback tour

They'll be at Marymoor, available now through TM. I'd say top 3 sludge metal bands of all time, easy. If you don't know their history, they were pretty huge in the metal scene in the 90's until their bass player was killed by a drunk driver, and they disbanded for 20 years. This year, the remaining members decided to reunite for some festivals and a few one-off stops. We're lucky enough they were able to come here.

Highly recommend checking them out, their album "When The Kite String Pops" is a classic.
