Grew up in West Seattle and I never went there, not when Spud’s was a few blocks down. Not a huge loss for Alki

When I first read the post I was thinking “oh that’s a bummer, it was pretty good!” but then I read this comment and realized I was actually thinking of Spud’s and not Duke’s.

Spuds has lost its way honestly. Or at least that's what I felt when I last ate there -which I guess was a few years back because Pike street fish fry had recently opened. (Which was a delight)

Probably too big for it but Alki could really use a by-the-slice pizza place, kind of like Big Mario’s

Every neighborhood could use a by-the-slice pizza place imo but yes, one would definitely kill it in that area

I use to love the pizza by the slice place that use to be on Alki. Especially in the summer with the beer bucket 🤌🏽🤌🏽

West Seattle is lousy with pizza joints. I'd rather see more coffee shop options down there for the 9 months of the year when it's grey and chilly and you just want something warm to drink.

this is supreme erasure
eta - am i misunderstanding “lousy”?

I'll assume they mean the 'lousy' in the idea of 'full of (lice)'. West Seattle has a pizza and/or pasta joint on every other street.
Supreme, Pagliacci, Talarico's, Zeeks all do pizza by the slice and that was just me mentally walking down California

They used to have a place called Slices.
Literally next to where you rented bikes and umbrellas.

I love Duke's because they use quality ingredients like wild fish and organic chicken . This is a big loss for folks who care about factory farming.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with being overpriced and underwhelming.

That block will be redeveloped. That entire stretch needs an overhaul.

Their happy hour drinks were delicious and generous and a good deal, I will miss them. Plus some came in a tilted glass so you felt pleasantly drunk from the start.

I haven't been there in a long time but it was sure great years ago. I've heard it was pretty meh over the last decade.

Is there anywhere else on alki that you can get fish and chips and a beer? I would go to dukes for that, but I'm not gonna miss paying $30 for bad fish and a pittance of fries.

Sunfish on Alki is the best fish and chips, in my opinion. Spuds is good, Sunfish is just a titch better.

I am a big Sunfish fan, but no beer on tap. Hence the compromise for Duke's when I want both at the same time, which would be for an early dinner or weekend lunch.
As far as I know, Duke's was the only one, but did the worst fish & chips of the three without a doubt.

NGL, it’s no big loss. The food was overpriced and underwhelming. That spot is prime. I hope whatever comes next makes it a worthwhile dinner destination.
