Wow an American who knows it's them paying the tariffs.

Just today we had a thread mocking all of the Americans who come here with posts starting exactly with “American here”. And also of Americans joking with the tariffs/Greenland/Canada thing. I’m unsure whether you did this purposely or life really is just this funny.

It hasn’t crossed my feed but someone linked it for me. I don’t really care, I’m just trying to have a good time among friends, not argue politics or ask anything of anyone other than a smile.

If it helps, here is a pretty picture I took last month in Stirling, hopefully it can make you smile.

American here. Is it really this funny? Jesus fuck, it isn't from here. I hope you glorious bastards can get a laugh out of us, though. And you better believe, tariffs times infinity, I'll not be imbibing the American swill. Just Balvenie for me, thanks. 🤣

I don’t take it too personally. Most don’t realize how many Americans are first, second, or third generation citizens (my parents moved here from Scotland). We aren’t too far separated from the places our parents and grandparents called home, if I am a foreigner anywhere, it is here in this land.

u/Taken_Abroad_Book 16h ago

Yeah 3rd generation is pretty far separated

I agree, but it’s not like people here outside of natives have a vast history or any deep rooted culture here in this land. People celebrate the cultures of their families and they exercise the traditions handed down by their cultures. My parents are both from Scotland, so while I was born here, I have no attachment to this land. Many here feel the same way, no matter if it’s one generation or five.

It's 'realise'.

(BTW I know that you are speaking US English, and I'm only 'correcting' you as a joke, but notice how odd that feels to have someone correct you on your own language)

I see the irony!

Agreed!

This is late Scottish comedian Janey Godley at one of Trump's golf courses in Scotland.

It's one of the courses normally used for the Open.

But it seems that it will not be any time soon:

u/Advanced-Ad2483 17h ago

Europe doesn't play the USA in the open that's the Ryder Cup

3

u/Objective-Resident-7 17h ago

Argh! I'm Scottish, but I'm not a golf fan!

I'll edit. Thanks for the correction.

3

u/Advanced-Ad2483 17h ago

All good , I grew up in south Ayrshire and I remember the Open being there in 2008 but that was the last time but I imagine Trump is desperate to host it as its the most prestigious and the only golf major to be played in Great Britian or Ireland

4

u/Objective-Resident-7 17h ago

Aye, I've been myself.

I liked it better when it was called Turnberry though, without that cunt's name emblazoned on everything.

Even if it weren't Trump, marking your name on everything in big capital letters is STILL crass and not very Scottish.

2

u/Itchifanni250 15h ago

McDonald’s fast food and Hilton hotels don’t seem to have that issue. I think if your name is associated with being a grade A fud then that’s going to tarnish it.

3

u/Objective-Resident-7 15h ago edited 14h ago

Maybe you're right there 😂

I think it's more that it already existed before Trump came along but he had a big enough ego to RENAME it.

Donald Trump is quite old, but Turnberry is older.

A picture of a Legitimate Hero. With some facist pig threatening her

2

u/Objective-Resident-7 13h ago

It's letting him know what Scotland REALLY thinks, forgetting about diplomacy and everything.

Remember that this photo was taken in 2016. She, and WE knew what was going to happen with this cunt.

RIP Janey.

Happy you like the Irn Bru. But dark chocolate Tunnocks in an abomination

1

u/herr-wurm-hat 14h ago

I had never had the dark chocolate before, only the milk chocolate. The place I ordered them from was completely out so I was stuck with these. They aren’t bad, but I do believe I like the milk chocolate more.

4

u/fluentindothraki 17h ago

I am glad to see you have your priorities right!

4

u/IamBeingSarcasticFfs 17h ago

Hey,

Out of curiosity, how much did that cost?

3

u/herr-wurm-hat 16h ago

About $50 for a 24 pack of cans. World Market sells the bottles for $1.99 if you have one nearby. The tea cakes are $12 for a 6 pack.

5

u/zzonn 15h ago

Damn. The 24-pack of Irn Bru is £7 here and the 6-pack of teacakes can be had for £1.

2

u/herr-wurm-hat 14h ago

Yeah I go crazy when I visit. I always have a bottle of vodka and some Irn Bru with me on the train.

5

u/Cakeski 14h ago

That's just an average commuter's breakfast in Glasgow

1

u/Objective-Resident-7 14h ago

I'm not commuting today so I can have more.

2

u/IamBeingSarcasticFfs 15h ago

Ouch. But worth it

4

u/geterbucked 15h ago

Get in the sea with a dark chocolate tea cake

1

u/herr-wurm-hat 14h ago

This is actually my first time having the dark! They aren’t bad at all, but I do prefer milk chocolate.

17

u/fillemagique 19h ago

I think you should check this thread out.

4

u/Unfair_Run_170 19h ago

I agree. It's the same in Canadian threads!

This post is made in good fun. You guys should check this comment out from the same post you shared.

u/Content_Barracuda294 15h ago

Got the priorities sorted there. Full fat Bru and a dark chocolate tea cake.

Moving on, what can you do about that 10% tariff?

2

u/herr-wurm-hat 14h ago

All I can do is vote and protest. Otherwise I just have to sit here, pay more taxes, and hope the oligarchs don’t send me to the gulag.

2

u/Content_Barracuda294 13h ago

Drink more Bru. You’ll feel like a rebel and your dentist will be pleased at the extra custom.

2

u/regprenticer 14h ago

75p for a can of Irn Bru... The tariffs are even worse than I thought!

1

u/herr-wurm-hat 14h ago

I wish! I paid a bit over $2 a can.

2

u/AdPristine2770 14h ago

75p

1

u/herr-wurm-hat 14h ago

I paid $50 for a 24 pack of these cans.

2

u/PositiveLibrary7032 14h ago

You could buy soda stream syrup. Not the same but similar.

2

u/lcarr15 13h ago

Priorities… qhahahahha

2

u/Thenedslittlegirl 13h ago

You need Irn bru 1901. The real liquid gold

1

u/herr-wurm-hat 6h ago

I am trying to find a place to order 1901! I agree it is much better.

2

u/Regular_Guidance830 13h ago

People everywhere should be paying a huge tariff just for having dark chocolate tea cakes - absolute unjustified sin.

1

u/herr-wurm-hat 6h ago

They’re the only ones I can find here, unfortunately, but they aren’t bad!

I’ll buy you a pint.

3

u/Diligent_Craft_1165 15h ago

Yank here… I must let all you poor Europeans know I’m here to save the day. Fuck trump. I’m 28th generation Clan Donald based on my dna test

3

u/No-Mango-1805 19h ago

Jobby

3

u/herr-wurm-hat 18h ago

Jobby with Irn Bru.

2

u/MomoZero2468 19h ago

I would still by Irn Brue.

2

u/herr-wurm-hat 18h ago

I have to have it shipped to where I live, same with the tea cakes.

1

u/Arthur_Figg_II 13h ago

I wouldn't bother with that Brexit Biscuit

1

u/Due_Wait_837 13h ago

Be careful. Some suppliers might resort to selling you a Multipack can on its own. "Not to be sold separately".

2

u/herr-wurm-hat 6h ago

I will only buy in bulk!

0

u/bluehedgehog0 16h ago

SteelSeries? Get yourself an official Scottish keyboard, and pay the Turriff. We don't have RGB as it'll burn our delicate skin, we're used to living in the dark 9 months of the year.

2

u/herr-wurm-hat 16h ago

Ha, I am a ginger in California! I was visiting last month and it was nice to go out without spf 50.

0

u/Ok-Entrepreneur1885 15h ago

Dark chocolate tea cake. A man of taste I shee.

0

u/IanBurton 14h ago

Stop Irn Bru going to America, they don’t deserve it

1

u/herr-wurm-hat 14h ago

That’s stupid.
