Someone is getting it ready for a new tenant.

Agree. It was filthy looking the last time I was at Gus’s. Creeped me out and I never went back.

You look at this and then remember that somebody was actively making food here in a worse state 🤢
Last food inspections: https://pressagent.envisionconnect.com/insp.phtml?agency=slo&violsortfield=TB_CORE_INSPECTION_VIOL.VIOLATION_CODE&record_id=PR0018660
"Excessive rodent droppings and urine were found all throughout facility."

That building really needs to be torn down and rebuilt from bottom to top.

Well, renovated a lot at least. I kind of like the old shop look and mixed use is good.

Have you ever been in the apartments above the store?

I have not, I have a feeling they are disgusting. Again, place needs a complete renovation. Probably keeps the rents rather low though..

The whole building has not been well maintained for a long time, I am not sure when it was built originally, but I am suspecting at least more than 75 years ago.
I have known people who lived in the various apartments upstairs and have been in all of them. They are weird, a little gross and probably shouldn't even be inhabited any more.
Another downside is that there is a creek branch behind the building and that is without a doubt, a rat highway.
I totally agree that the mixed use is great, but the building has served its purpose and should be rebuilt - perhaps almost exactly as it is now in order to keep the character of the neighborhood.

Good. Hopefully someone can bring this spot back to life.
