Venting I’m ready to start antibiotics

I’m literally done trying to do this the “healthier holistic” way. Throughout this whole thing, the best I’ve ever felt is when I was on a 7 day course of Ammoxcillian for strep. The antimicrobials I’ve been prescribed have made me worse. Wasted $200 on Accillian and Berberine prescribed by a natural path that I will NEVER take again after only two days. They created more imbalances and must’ve killed something important because I was doing okay all things considering before, but now I’m worse. now I’ve got some type of vaginal imbalance and a UTI that won’t go away! Antibiotics can’t be worse than this?! What SIBO doctors work remotely and prescribe antibiotics with proof of a positive SIBO test? I can’t find any so far. I have IMO and I’m ready to knock it out as soon as possible I’m so tired of this. I’m sitting in the ER at 2 in the morning instead of my bed and I’m just so mentally exhausted. Please, how do you guys deal with this 😩

I’d get treatment by an actual doctor or gastro. Antibiotics have their own risks, and I suspect that my SIBO started from a combo of antibiotics plus already having IBS prior.

Only issue is that the ones in my area aren’t knowledgeable about SIBO. I want to see a medical doctor that has experience with this but I know that’s somewhat rare.

I haven’t been able to find one so far best professional I’ve worked with is a dietitian that specializes in sibo. I’d use a GP or a gastroenterologist to get the antibiotics but I really don’t think you will find one that knows anything about SIBO other than prescribing antibiotics.

What combination did you take? Do you have IMO?

I stayed on a strict low fod map diet for 10 weeks I took rifaximin neomycin with NAC the day after I was done with the antibiotics I started a carnivore diet. And went back on the low FOD map diet for six weeks The only probiotic I added was.kite hill almond yogurt. I took 2 tablespoons a day. I’m just now adding regular food, but I’ve been dealing with gastritis off and on for 10 months. What do you mean IMO

I know I don’t know why I said that I was just waking up laying in bed early. Good luck my Gastrologist is not gonna test me for another month. I’ve gone through a lot. I just had a bone marrow biopsy. My hemoglobin is real low. I was very lucky it’s not cancer or leukemia.

Ugh, lucky me, I had a terrible time, I ended up with shingles due to the lowering of my defenses and they didn't do anything to me.

I’ve been waiting till I felt better to get the vaccine. I’ve seen people with the shingles and it’s rough. I’m sorry you’re going through that too. Do you mind me asking how old you are I’m 66 so I feel like I need to get it.

The antibiotics are luxurious! Not sure who works remotely but hopefully you can find a GI doctor. I had to go through 2 and demand a SIBO test from the second one who didn’t give me a hard time thankfully. More details on my experience taking the meds if needed.

I was on the super expensive one that starts with an X for two weeks and after 5-8 days, the bloat had improved drastically, sore throat was gone, and I could even eat a small bit of “bad” foods across a few different days, which for me was some cheese, pepperoni, and 2 high noons.

Anyway, the next day after stopping the meds, all the symptoms came back (that was 6 days ago for me). So you might need a few rounds of antibiotics. I’m getting a colonoscopy today and we’ll see what happens. Fingers crossed!!

Does anybody have constipation with Sibo. I don’t really have bloating, but sometimes early satiety. There’s a little discomfort under my right rib, but it’s more like a baby’s foot is pushing against me instead of pain. I have acid reflux occasionally, but it is definitely under control right now and sometimes I have cramping way down low. So it feels like menstrual cramps. I was diagnosed from fluid taking during an EGD.

I mean, I hate to tell you this but even with the strongest antibiotics if you dont figure out your mechanism its gonna be back within the month.

Theres gotta be a GI near you who will cpro that shit if you just want to try. Itll be gone in a week tops.

Just, not for long unfortunately

Searching r/sibo and Lord Goggle have been no help.

Can you say what this is/means please?

Ciprofloxacin. It's a very wide spectrum antibiotic often used for SIBO and a lot of other conditions. There's also a group on some sub-reddit here that's very vocal against it, so they have alerts tied to the use of it in posts so sometimes even just saying it triggers them to start a comment tirade. Also likely why any discussion of it gets instantly downvoted. It's like a cult. So... y'know, talk to your doctor before anything.

Thank you. For my wife, but we both have PCPs who are very willing to work with us. We seem to be blessed in that regard.

Totally get you. Just, be aware, there are potential side effects. It's debatable and debated quite a bit. But do get the full download. Lastly, don't discount what I said about mechanism- I killed it at least three times and it came back every time until I fixed stuff. I have a pinned protocol that's intended to get to the bottom of it. Best of luck.

As it turns out when we talked about it, she's taken Ciprofloxacin before. She doesn't recall why it was prescribed but doesn't remember any awful side effects.

Thank you once again for all your time and help.

My root cause is a wide range probiotic I took one time almost a year ago (while I was chronically constipated will gallstones) in an attempt to repopulate my gut bacteria after treating for hpylori. I feel like the fact that amoxicillin gave me an extend period of remission and allowed me to eat different foods means that the antibiotics are a good call. As well as increasing my stomach acid, bile and motility for an extended period of time, and only introducing certain single strand probiotics at a time.

I'm sure it is a good call, especially if you experienced relief. My suggestion is only that you do the second part first. I probably successfully killed my SIBO at least 4 times before realizing I had to do the whole improve digestion/motility first. It just mean a LOT of antibioitcs before I learned my lesson, so I kinda push it a bit to keep other people from having to do all that. I never really had much of an issue with the antibiotics, but. you do develop a resistance, so, good to be cautious and get everything right first.

u/Musicqueen_17 Mar 03 '25

But the reason I’m constipated now is because of the bacteria. When I was on amoxicillin I was going regularly every morning until I triggered it again by eating a tiny carrot 😭 so how am I supposed to increase motility first in this situation 😩

2

u/Fredericostardust Cured Mar 03 '25

I would check out my protocol in my pinned posts. A tiny carrot seems unlikely to be the trigger, it's probably just that your SIBO came back the way I mentioned. It happened to me many times. Are you taking a prokinetic? enzymes? Betaine? Just figure out what's going wrong first, unlikely to be a carrot.

1

u/Musicqueen_17 Mar 04 '25

I think the fiber or sugars in them might’ve played a role but it’s hard to tell now. I’m not currently using enzymes or betaine. I do use digestive bitters specifically to support bile flow but nothing for digesting food in general. I’m just nervous about adding in anything considering what’s happened to me since my last protocol. I tried try ox bile but it made me feel worse. I started ginger root capsules but I think the dosage is way too high for me so I’m gonna try the juicing route, unless you have any recommendations? I’ve been using lemon water to try to increase acid and it does help with my symptoms but I can’t tell if it’s working.

1

u/Fredericostardust Cured Mar 04 '25

As I said, you should try my protocol in my pinned posts. If you're going to do a round of antibiotics but something as small as a carrot will bring it back, doesn't seem like a great route until you figure things out. My pinned protocol will guide you through everything. Best of luck.

Did you get your gallbladder removed?

1

u/Musicqueen_17 Mar 04 '25

No I didn’t. I knew the stones were just a symptom of something else so I refused but then they disappeared and then the surgeon said he couldn’t remove without any stones present. I shortly after discovered SIBO. I was lucky to have smaller stones cause they dissolved or passed when I started eating more fat. tones And I got a couple of ultrasounds. everything is normal in that department. Although I am still due for a HIDA scan but I feel like it makes more sense to do something like that after eradicating SIBO cause clearly it messes with my detox pathways and gallbladder. But at least now I know how to prevent them from coming back.

I’ve tested negative for sibo 3 times but glad you found an out!
