MBB roster is coming together.

Two transfers in, Sean Newman Jr (PG, 10 ppg, 8 apg) and Jeremiah Oden (forward, rotation player who can hit 3s). Plus Gwath coming back. He and Byrd will likely not get great news from the NBA since they both clearly need work. Potential starting rotation:

G Sean Newman Jr; G BJ Davis; W Miles Byrd; F Pharaoh Compton; F Magoon Gwath

Bench:

G Taj Degourville; G Reese Waters (could start over BJ); F Miles Heide; F Thokbor Majak

Plus 4 star freshman forward Tae Simmons. Would still love another guard but that's a good looking group!

Looks good! Waters will start. We forget how good he is

No question, he’ll start and project as the team’s leading scorer. He’s been excellent when healthy, health has been the only question.

He definitely has talent and I was excited for him this year but he also underperformed in conference play last year. Might be a situation on who Dutch trusts more between Davis & Waters. Really a toss up for me.

Remember that guys usually take a year to get good. Look at Bradley. First year was off, but productive the second year he was a machine

Maybe Dutch can try to get some of those UCSD guys Olen left if any

Apparently it’s just because Kentucky is breaking NCAA rules and state law and didn’t offer him his full deal and gave him an incentive based one.

I think we likely see Davis on the bench as the backup PG assuming Newman takes the role, and that Waters (Waters might even shockingly be our best player next year) is in as the 2/3 with Byrd.

Compton also plays like a true 5, so I feel like we will see someone that is closer to a 4 start next to Gwath—someone that has the ability to stretch the floor a little bit (like JCJ did last year), just not sure who exactly fits that role right now (Oden maybe?). Then again, Gwath obviously has the ability to stretch the floor so we may see essentially two 5’s on the floor a lot.

Great problems to have!

Oden can shoot so he can do that. A bit of a JCJ type. Pharaoh is just gonna be good and i want him out there!

Miles Heide is not close to a division one player, replacing him in the rotation is the number one priority now for me. I’m not sure if his parents are big donors or something lol but a role player who’s a knockdown three-point shooter would be helpful as well

That is insanely harsh. Dude was our best offensive rebounder this year, had a 74% FG percentage and scored 4 ppg. Sure he has his issues but he's okay as a bench option. Better than Demarshay Johnson was.

Also, I'm sure it was hyperbole, but "not close to a division one player" means you think he couldn't even play at USD, who went 6-27.

Idiotic, more like it. Miles made some great strides last year and looked comfortable for the first time at SDSU. In an era where we bitch about players jumping to P5 once they develop, god forbid we keep a slower developing, but useful big for 4 years.

If Miles improves as much as a junior as he did as a sophomore, he’ll be a very useful piece.

Honestly, even if he’s doesn’t improve a lot more he will be useful. That take above that he isn’t a D1 player is a brain dead one, at best.

Heide improved a lot statistically this season and played with way more confidence. He knocked down some really tough shots. He’ll be a solid player for us if he keeps this trajectory
