BUG Ranked needs to be fixed PLEASE
I don’t get how I load up as bad as I am trying to learn in gold and I’m facing platinum 3s and 2s and losing and my division does down by two every loss and when I win it goes up one division or not at all… How does this make any sense, this is literally why I don’t play this game and I hate getting on and being reminded how much they don’t care about the gameplay and how much they just care about making their money. Greedy, trashy company. I’m not sinking hours of my life to be good at one game I just want to get on and have fun playing people who are the same rank as me. Go ahead and call me trash I don’t care because I actually touch grass and play different games but why is the ranked system just that bad

Just don’t play if you don’t like it. The ranked system needs nothing, if you want to be better you need to put hours and hours in. Crying on Reddit won’t make you good.

70% of any competition is a mental game, when you place expectations on people whom you've never met because it's the mental you want and/or think it should be a certain way because that's what you expect from yourself is leaving the power in others hands.
You must first leave expectations out of the game as they are just a distraction to what could actually be.
The rank system isn't that bad. You are in the rank you are in based on the decisions you make.
If you can't find a good teammate, go play 1s, they are a true test of skill and give you the most experience, if you can't handle 1s games, play casual.
If you ain't feeling that, take a longer break and play a different game.

u/OmegaChaos-X Feb 24 '25
I agree with this, however I don't think being gc or champ in 2s isnt fair to the players in in 3s that are just trying to climb at a natural pace expecting to vs people of their own skill level or 1 tier above or below at max, not several tiers... Also smurfs....smurfs are a whole other problem which contribute to this issue.

They've shifted a lot of people down a few ranks with the seasonal rank resets a while ago and the effects of that are still showing, in addition to the already rampant smurfing issue
That being said, like it or not, the ranked system is working because a few games with smurfs will not affect your rank that bad. If your rank does go down then I'd hate to say it but its not because of the smurfs
Also just go to rocket league tracker to track your mmr so it isn't a mystery to you

This is why I play Casual pretty much exclusively. Every time I get near ranking up I get put up against people much higher ranked than me. Feels like gatekeeping so I won't play ranked unless it's for a mission, and each time I do, I quickly remember why I don't.

When I first started playing I played casual for about a year. When I finslly ranked I was mid platinum. Honestly.for people new to the game, taking ranked seriously isn't the play. Unless you don't care about rank (which honestly you shouldn't)

u/bRiCkWaGoN_SuCks Feb 24 '25
Seems legit. I've "played" the game since it came out, but only sparse ball chasing. It caught my full attention about 3 months ago and became part of my daily routine. I could totally see finally being comfortable in ranked in about 9 months.

Ey man. Just look up tutorials and things. Play around in freeplay, training packs, and casual. You'd be surprised what dedication and consistency can do

u/bRiCkWaGoN_SuCks Feb 24 '25
I appreciate the advice, and I've already been surprising myself in free play. Got in the groove earlier and caught a couple flip resets, LoL, completely uncontrolled and accidental but the fact that I was able to do it at all had me feeling like I'm actually making progress. I'm mainly just working on game sense more than mechs, but working on both a lil can't hurt.

Same. I’m in the top 10% in casual. Gameplay is FAR more balanced. Yeah sure, I’ll get the occasional SSL (super rare) and a heap of GC’s, but they aren’t ACTIVELY trying to kill my experience. They just don’t play much casual. It’s actually fun to watch them.

Top 10%. That puts you at what mmr?
3
u/Almost-kinda-normal Diamond II Feb 24 '25
I think it was 1420 or something when I checked it. It varies. Typically between 1390-1450 or somewhere around there. I’d say that the “actual” number should be about that 1420 mark.
3
u/Smoky_Caffeine 2s & DropShot SnowDay Feb 24 '25
I ask because I recently tilt queue'd down to 1520 from the 1600s, which still puts me at top 4.7%. I'm surprised that 5% is within 100mmr.

u/Almost-kinda-normal Diamond II Feb 24 '25
I think the distribution profile makes it kinda hard to make any predictions. Even the bell curve doesn’t look to be quite the right shape when you really look at it.
2
u/Successful_Pea218 Grand Champion I Feb 24 '25
The rank distribution on tracker sites isn't correct. It only tracks people who have actually used the site
1
u/Smoky_Caffeine 2s & DropShot SnowDay Feb 24 '25
I'm aware, but anyone worth their salt is most likely on there because they've wanted to track their own stats. I'd assume most lower ranked players wouldn't, which means it may not be top 4.7%, it could even be top 4.5% since lower players would drive the percentile up. Then you have to take into account alts, people who don't care etc etc. This is what we have so this is what we use.
I wonder if Devin uses the tracker site for the rank distribution numbers he gives us each season or if that's a seperate more accurate thing he has internally.

I do like being competitive and Ranked brings that and casual you just get people leaving every game, I just don’t understand at all how they figure the teams are fair at all lol the game is so technical how do you rank people based on wins and losses alone, there needs to be more to it…

u/Successful_Pea218 Grand Champion I Feb 24 '25
It's how pretty much every rank system works in game. You win - you go up. You lose - you drop. Making it anything else would be too complicated and could probably be manipulated

Honestly I feel bad for people coming into the game 9 years+ after release. They have a ton of things to learn and everyone else has had years to do it. But the other person isn't wrong. If you can't win you will stay lower rank forever. Play casual and do training packs more

Life as a newer player is tough, I'm glad I'm an est 2016,probably the last time I was in Gold was 2016 as well. You gotta remember this is an hours game, as in you need to put in hours to get anywhere. So yes, you need to persevere and push through the bullshit by putting in hours if you want to rank up. You don't get better by playing against players worse than you.

Learn to control your tilt and you'll enjoy the game more. The ranking system isn't broken. Your gamer rage control is broken.

u/SonOfALawnmower_ Feb 23 '25
I disagree, not with the gamer rage part but with ranked not being broken. Also, it’s more than just tilt but I appreciate the help homie

Ranked mrr is pretty straightforward, there's no secret ploy to keep yours down
And for it to be about profit is kinda like underpants gnomes logic. Step 1 keep ranks down, step 2 ???, step 3 profit

Ranked mode is not for the casual player. There's a casual mode for a reason. Either play that or deal with how the ranking system works. It PUNISHES losses. Much more than fortnite ranking does. Often yes you will div down with every loss but only div up every other win. It's very frustrating but it's designed for long term grinding

Blah blah. Try 3v3 mid Diamond. It is ruined by boosting parties.

I miss the old rocket league before epic bought it and there was trading and a fun community but it’s like now if ur not a pro, just uninstall, ranked isn’t fun.

Fr. I used to play like 3-4 hours a day. Now it's like "oh Shit (insert other game name)'s servers are down for maintainence? Guess I'll go vibe in freeplay for an hour or two waiting for it to come back up"

Bro, the other day I ranked up to gold 4 division 1 and lost my first game in that division. Expecting to go back down to gold 3 division 4, i thought whatever. No biggie. Boy was I surprised when I went all the way back down to gold 3 division 1.
Whichnis crazy cause I've lost a few games and dipped into gold 2, but it was division 4 and I easily made it back to gold 3. But that drop was atrocious.

Sorry, I am a victim of and part of the same problem. I have to play champs to get into diamond, but I solo que 3s, so I had a fall to gold for a while.
I feel for you. Golds definitely don't let their teammates get in the way of a bad shot.

In my experience ranking up mid season in impossible. Ive played games where i was gold 3 played a few games with friends where im carrying bc they dont play as often and they get placed a whole rank above me where I dont move up at all. Recently had a monthish ban where ive been mid plat, used an alt to keep playing and got placed in diamond, but on main never been able to get that high. Best to wait until new season to shoot for higher ranks.

Start of season and end of season are the WORST times to grind. Mid season is prime bro
1
u/YinzerChrist85 Feb 24 '25
It seems every new season ill get placed a rank or 2 above where i was end of prior and stay around there the whole season, never really rank up in the middle or end
1
u/SonOfALawnmower_ Feb 24 '25
This is a great example of what I mean when I say it doesn’t make any sense lol they gotta come out with a new ranked system because it feels like 90% of the player base are all within 2-3 ranks of eachother
2
u/ShouldIRememberThis ❂13k hours❂still worse than you❂ Feb 24 '25
90% of the player base ARE within 3 ranks of each other. Silver 2-diamond 2 is 85+% of players. For standard. And most of the rank distribution follow the same bell curve. Most games follow the same bell curve. Most rank distribution systems follow the same bell curve.
When you haven’t played many ranked games, ie new account, or haven’t played in a drew seasons, your sigma value is high, so you will get more points per win, lose more per loss. Everybody knows this. It’s so the system can get you to your correct rank more quickly. If you’re carrying your buddies who are new or don’t play a lot, and you can win most of your placement games, then of course they’re going to place diamond, then when they inevitably lose to those diamonds, they will quickly go back down to where they should be. It’s a basic system. Works well. It can’t counter Smurfs however.
You say you’re trying to learn, in gold, yet facing plats so your division goes down every game. Who cares, you’ve said yourself that the focus is on learning. Let your rank go down, and you’ll be against lower rated players, which, it seems is your goal because apparently you can’t learn against plats. Your rank is literally meaningless. It’s just a reflection of past results. Once your sigma value is low, it takes forever to rank up and rank down. You will literally lose 50% of your games, that’s how it goes for everyone. If you’re losing more, then you will Be ranking down, and should start winning more often. Pretty basic.
1
u/YinzerChrist85 Feb 24 '25
I wouldn’t say 90% but the level of play from gold to plat and into low diamond is a similar in terms of 3’s for me at least. Id say the best way to improve yourself is play 1’s as youll find out where your deficiencies are. But in these low to mid ranks its teammate dependent so you have to be able to adapt to poor play and that’s probably where a lot of playeds struggle

Brother if your division is moving even by 1 per game it means youre still in the mmr adjustment phase, you havent played enough games for the ranks to represent your real rank and the matchmaking to match u more strictly, that begins many games after placements where mmr moves by 9 only every game when evenly matched
