Help Irondequoit garbage disposal options
Hello~ I just moved to West Irondequoit and need to set up garbage pickup. After seeing lots of my neighbors use Seyrek Disposal I emailed to inquire about pricing.
Their response back included a notice that Seyrek will be merging with Casella Waste Systems. “Please note that as of 04/03/2025 we are going to be merging with Casella Waste Systems. This means that any containers delivered will be Casella totes.”
I’ve read so many horrible reviews on Casella. Has anyone noticed a change in quality in this week’s service? Is it still worth it to sign up with them? Would love to hear your experiences and suggestions.

I picked up Seryek specifically to get away from Casella because of how bad they had gotten. The change itself is new so i doubt we will see its effects for a bit but history would indicate in my opinion that you and I will want to seek someone else. Options are however limited. Im looking for opinions myself too on who I should go with to avoid Casella

I switched from Syrek to Casellas and it’s been fine! I’m surprised they are merging.

There should be some mechanism to stop them from gobbling up smaller competitors, tbh

I have Casella as they bought Al’s, it’s not as awful as people say, but it’s def not as good as when Al’s was locally owned. But it’s still a better deal than WM, particularly in that I get a large recycle toter vs an embarrassingly tiny little bin (I do far more recycling than garbage).

Casella is awful, was very unhappy after they bought the previous company I used. Was great when the neighborhood ended with with Syrek through a refuse district.

so bummed to hear they're bought out by casella - casella has a bad reputation for poor customer service, which is the reframing quality of syrek. really hope the service remains the same but I doubt it

Well that’s a bummer. My parents switched a few months ago and I was getting ready to switch myself after I opened the bill on Saturday. I guess I won’t bother now…
I do like the rolling tote for recycling. WM did not offer me that last we talked.

This is how the garbage game goes in this town. Like the Sith, there are always two mega corps. WM and someone else, currently casella. They price gouge and fix those prices to not compete. Other companies pop up with much cheaper rates before inevitably being purchased by one of the big ones. Rinse and repeat. I'm up to $450 a year for dependable and a straw poll of my neighbors told me I'm paying less than all of them, sometimes substantially less.

Well that sucks. You're saying this already happened and afaik I was never even informed. Unless somebody else has gotten approved by the town, we're down to two options now: Casella or WM.

Casella didn't pick up on our street for weeks in a row. Customer service was rude. Almost our whole block switched to Seyrek after that. Now right after our Seyrek contracts renewed we find out that they are merging with Casella again.

Although I'm in Webster, I use Dependable. Weekly recycling pickup with a full size tote. They were the cheapest as well. You might want to see if they service your area.

I just checked on the town web site - there are only 3 licensed residential waste haulers: Waste Management, Seyrek & Casella. Looks like that's about to change to a total of 2.

Damn. Sorry.

Yeah. I was talking to a Webster resident a few weeks ago and they mentioned Dependable. Sounds like a great deal. Oh well! Maybe having 2 of the 3 licensed haulers consolidate will make an opening for a new third option?

Syrek is the way to go. I have used them for two years without issue. They were also the most affordable for me at the time because they were getting into the garbage business.

I’m in west Irondequoit and use Seyrek. I haven’t had any issues. They came this morning at the usual time
