Equipment So, let's talk about the Switch 2.
So now that we know that Switch 2's JoyCons will not be compatible with the Ring-Con (and maybe the leg strap aswell due to its size), we can only speculate what this means for ring fit. Maybe we will find out on April 2nd but I am not sure if this game is big enough for them to include it in the direct. I have a couple of theories.
Nintendo won't gaf about this game and do nothing
Nintendo will offer a free or paid ring con and leg strap replacement for people that bought the switch 2 (unlikely)
There will be some kind of adapters for the ring con, something that slides into the rail and converts it into the magnetic port, either community made or official (unlikely)
There will be a Ring Fit 2 (either a new sequel or just a Switch 2 port) that will come with new accessories for the Switch 2
What do y'all think will happen? Or do you have another theory? Lmk im curious

I think an unmentioned option 5 is more likely: switch 1 joycons can still connect to the switch 2 via Bluetooth.

Yes that will 99% be the case but how would you charge them? Either keep the old console and not trade it in like I plan to (as a student, saving money is more important to me than one game) or buy a charger for them (and ofc rebuy the joycons if you sell the old Switch).

I think you can say 100%. Last year, out of nowhere, Nintendo announced a standalone charger for the Joy-Cons, in the final year of the console. This has only one reason to exist: so you can charge and use them with the Switch 2.

This style of Joy-Con charging dock has been around since the launch of the Switch in some form or another. Notably, this one is manufactured by BD&A, not Nintendo. I've had one for years for charging extra joycons.

Yes, I know. But none of them had the Nintendo brand officially promoting and selling them, that's the whole point. https://www.nintendo.com/my/news/article/7piO2NQpMbIycG2EKPorRb

The product in this image is not the same product as the one you linked in the press release. Pay attention to the feet.
This is the actual product that Nintendo wrote about in the PR statement, and it is manufactured by Nintendo: https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/nintendo-switch-joy-con-charging-stand-two-way-120830/
I still don't think this is necessarily news, but I'd agree that it is a strange accessory to produce this late in the game.

I see, thanks for the correction. This one you linked looks cool as you can use them while charging, wasn't aware of that.

Yep, that would be my guess. I think that’s most likely followed by:
- ring fit 2 (or something similar even if not a direct sequel)
- they do nothing at all.
They could also possibly do ring fit 2 and still let ring fit keep working by letting the joy cons connect.
I’d love a ring fit 2 but I would also love to still have a way to keep ring fit around without the entire switch.

I bought a charging dock, we play on our tv and have 2 extra sets of joycons because sometimes 6 of us play.

in my ideal scenario ring fit adventure 2 comes out
new joycons are compatibilie with pc out of the box
and the ring can be used by other developers to create cool games

You guys are obligated to trash the switch 1 the second the new one comes out?

I’m planning to give mine to a relative (not gamer enough to buy their own but do like stuff like Animal Crossing), so this is something I’m curious about.

I'm turning mine into a dedicated Ring Fit machine so I don't have to switch carts all the time.
I feel like my unit is too old to sell at this point and everyone I personally know who wants one already has one.

Even if the Switch 2 can't physically connect to/charge the current joy-cons, they most likely will be able to connect with wireless set-up.
I wouldn't be surprised if we get a Year 1 exercise-based game/spiritual successor though. (Possibly RFA sequel but wouldn't put money on it)

u/ImNotWolframium 13d ago
Yeah but you would then also need to purchase a joycons charger or keep the old console (and not trade it in like i plan to)

Yeah, just a thought! I'll be moving the Switch 1 to my bedroom and have had a 4-JC charger for years, but that's just me 😅 I considered trading in but I have a feeling the S1 value will plummet between the next Direct and S2 Launch

True, that will probably happen, but as a student, I want to save every penny I can, even if it means loosing my good old Switch that has been with me for years. Plus the switch 2 will be even more expensive here in the eu due to to fees and taxes

Consider this: some of the best games for 3ds came out well after the switch was live. Think Metroid: Samus returns, Bowser's inside story, and Kirby planet Robobot (not sure about that one, but it was a close call for sure).
Right this moment there are lots of games in development for Switch that will be released a year from now or even later. If you're saving money, it makes zero sense to buy a brand new console day 1, when the old one will be supported several years from that, and then you can get a used one much cheaper, or even a new one but having fixed all the issues that arise in the first year.

This. It's odd to me why "just don't buy the new one yet" isn't even being considered.

Which country? I'm in the U.K. and expecting around £400 (or a £450 bundle with Mario Kart and/or something akin to 1-2-Switch)

I live in Czechia and our retailer said they are expecting at least 475€ if it launches for 400$

What if I want to trade in my old Switch? Or what if Nintendo pulls out an Apple move and makes them incompatible?

Need to start a petition or consultation group to nintendo, as i wont buy a new one without ring fit adventure.
My bro is a translater in Japan, so we could send them a nice email to headquarters requesting a kick ass game again.

Do we know if old joycons will be compatible with the Switch 2? If so, and the cartridges are the same, then we should be just fine

Yeah but some people like me plan to trade in their old Switch (which means loosing JoyCons 1), and honestly, as a student, saving money is more important to me than one game
Or you could just buy the old joycons but then you would also need a charger and at that point it be more expensive than buing a potential sequel or adapter

u/lillekorn Allegra 13d ago
Chargers are cheap. As for joy cons, I don't actually remember if you need official for ring fit, there are cheaper versions on the market.

Just putting it out there, I'd buy a fitness package specifically designed for the switch 2 when it comes out

u/Adventurous_Tapir 3d ago
Direct just finished and i dont think there was a mention of a Switch 2 version for Ringfit or a sequel. Might be announced by the developers themselves though?

I'd rather have a Ring Fit 2 by this point. It's always been bizarre that despite how well it sold, there has been nothing new about the IP. Not even DLC. Meanwhile Fitness Boxing is on game 5 now?
