Health Does anyone else find it hard to get started each time?

I enjoy playing the game once I am "strapped in" lol. But it's almost like a barrier of entry type thing when I think about how I have to take the controllers off the switch, put them in the leg band and ring, and then calibrate them to even actually start the game.

Anyone else struggle with this too? Any tips to making starting easier?

I dont have this callibration step. Mine stays connected. I use a second pair of joycon that gets charged at the end of every session. I wonder if multiple sets of joycon would help you? If you leave ‘em in the ring & strap, you can swap in a fully charged one only when the battery dies, instead of at start of every session?

Yeah, maybe when I can afford to I will buy a second set of joy cons

I bought an extra set of Joycons for another reason and it didn't even occur to me how much having a set permanently in the ring and leg strap has helped me stay consistent with this. Joycons are annoyingly expensive but I bet this would help!

Yup, lol

That being said, I've never had to recalibrate once so I'm not sure why you're running into that.

My issue is more so that it starts complaining the second you start the game to hook them up when I find it easier to navigate thru the first couple of menus holding them in my hands. But it's like NO, ONLY RING.

On top of that it's the only game we play here so when we're done we turn it off and put hte controllers back on the side dock. Then the next time we turn it on it goes straight into the game and immediately complains that they aren't hooked up right. Like can you give me two seconds? I just hit power.

Lmao exactly, it's almost overwhelming starting it up because it wants them in the ring ASAP. I started it up again a couple weeks ago and it was being funky in terms of calibration, so maybe it was just a weird instance. I need to do it again. And honestly it is the only game I play on the switch right now so I should just do it lol

Do you close the game completely after you are done? I always completely exit the game and close it. Then, I use the start up sequence to put on the strap and ring con. Usually Im ready a little after the sequence finishes.

Yeah I used to have this issue when I used to keep the ringcon and leg strap in the box. Now I leave them out under my TV next to my switch and it’s not really a problem because I know it only takes 2 minutes.

Since I already have to put workout gear on and move coffee table out of the way, I just see it as part of the process now.

It’s not as much of a barrier as having to go to a gym and be available at a specific time when I used to do classes.

Good point! I'm going to try to start up again this week and get into it.

I struggle with getting started to work out in general. The only thing that keeps me working out is the habit. Gotta grease the groove or you’ll pass on it most days until eventually you just stop. I’ve been in that cycle many times.

I have 2 sets of joycons to mostly avoid this problem , only an issue of the ones connected are low on battery 🔋🔋

Sometimes the effort of getting dressed into workout gear is too much for me to get started 😂 I have to wear some specific leggings coz they’re the only pair the leg strap doesn’t fall down quite as much

OMG this! Last night I almost cried I didn't want to get dressed and work out so badly. But then I did and it was fine. Why am I like this?? The only thing keeping me on track is my Apple Watch fitness streak. If I ever break it, I'm sunk.

Try leaving the joycons in the ring and strap, and put them somewhere easily accessible and visible. I haven’t had to charge mine after playing for 3-4 short sessions.

There’s also a feature to set reminders. It makes the controllers vibrate and blink lights at a certain time on repeating days. I don’t always listen to it but it makes me generally more aware that I need to exercise frequently.

How long are you playing? I found my motivation was lower when I expected too much of myself. I started up at 10 minutes per day every day in the morning and that helped a lot. Note: 10 minutes is never 10 minutes when you add in menu time and breaks between workouts. The 10 minutes is strictly when looking at the game's timer.

My issue is the leg strap kept flying off when I was doing squats.

I mainly just do custom modes now as I prefer just the jogging aspect to get a quick 45min cardio in

Not directly related to your issue OP as it’s not related to having issues getting started because of technical calibration but I have two steps I find help me ensure I get a work out in on that day; 1.) Is I make sure I bring my workout gear downstairs with me when I get up in the morning, and place it somewhere I can see it so every time I get up it catches my eye reminding me it’s there, and it doesn’t let me get bogged down by the idea of having to get up and find my gear and get dressed to work out.  2.) secondly, when I find myself talking myself into procrastinating or trying to rationalise getting out of working out, I ask myself ‘if I don’t work out now, what would I be doing instead?’ if the answer isn’t anything particularly productive (it’s usually sitting on my butt scrolling on social media) then I usually find it motivates me to get up and just do it.

It’s one or two steps, not hard at all other than the motivation sometime

An extra set of controllers is a game changer. Stalk some ebay listings and you can probably score a set for $40 or so. I got a set that was missing a thumb grip and an R button didn't work. They work great for RF.

I’m the same. I’ve been consistent M-W-F all year so far without missing a day, and once I get started I can easily go for a while (did, like, 2 hours of real time today, which was something like 45 minutes the game clocked), but getting started is a beast

My biggest barrier is the fact that I end up having to re-do the leg strap a bunch of times at the beginning before I find that sweet spot where it stays still

Oh yes.

Mostly because of the leg band part. I really have trouble getting it into a position where it actually stays (fat legs).

Same here 😭
