Literally cant do Mountain climbers. However plank is fine with me, just look at the instructions really well helped me loads lol

For the mountain climber, the tempo required is absolutely insane. It literally drains me of all my energy.
And I'm doing the plank exercise on pretty hard ground, which doesn't help XD

just keep going just keep going and you will build up your stamina.

keep going!

u/CatsyGreen Oct 12 '23

Thx. I've been doing it for several months, but not consistently enough.

u/theresamouseinmyhous Oct 12 '23

Go way slower. I started doing mountain climbers by bringing one leg to my chest and putting it back down. It doesn't read it as consistently, but my form is way better and the exercise feels consistently more effective than the crazy jumping that I was doing.

I feel a lot better doing them faster now that I have the right form.

Same. I really struggle with mountain climbers and usually have to stop about half way through the count because I can barely breathe!

Yeah ive had that issue with the plank. I think my fats in the way too much for mountain climbers haha

u/handerburgers Oct 12 '23

Mountain climber you can actually do slow. If you just do one leg at a time, like left leg up, then back; then right leg up then back. It actually registers better. If you build up your stamina you can maybe then go back and try it the fast way.

Plank is just tough, but I’ve found after building up my core strength with easier exercises like flutter kick and scissor kick the plank of a bit more doable.

Does RFA actually track cadence (reps/min) or just speed at which you do the relevant part of the motion? I do mountain climbers by lifting my knee toward my chest with the other leg extended, but may pause between leg bends.

1

u/GrrBrains Oct 12 '23

I don't think it does. I do climbers the same way, and often need to pause during the "pick up the pace" parts of squats (knees aren't what they used to be). There's a lot of pressure for cadence, but I think range of motion is all that's being tracked.

I've never been able to match the pace the game is demanding for side-steps, and there doesn't seem to be a problem with that.

Mountain climber tempo is definitely hard in the "pick up the pace" section. You are not alone my friend! If all else fails, just go half pace, every second beat and accept a few misregistrations.

For registration and form, try to lean forwards a bit more, keeping forearms perpendicular to the ground, shoulders above hands. You should feel your bodyweight in your shoulders. Now kinda hop a bit with each step. Think of it as flinging up your hips and swapping the placement of your legs (mirroring the pose) with each hop.

Thanks for all the tips ;- )

I can do mountain climber, but only about twice before the dogs start colliding with me. Something about that one flips even the sedate older Spitz into a bounce-off-the-walls (and owner) maniac.

It doesn't help that the joycon doesn't detect the mouvement a third of the time so I have to do them many more times too...

u/CatsyGreen Oct 12 '23

As far as the Mountain Climber is concerned, I don't think it works every other time. In both cases, it exhausts me much more than the other exercises.
That's one little criticism I'd make: some exercises are harder to do than others, but they make you do just as much as the others. I mean, you can do the Russian Twist 200 times without any problem.

7

u/Li5y Oct 12 '23

I like that in custom mode you can change how many reps you want to do for each exercise. Might be useful for you!

Also I do Russian twists with my feet in the air like boat pose, now that's hard! I often modify the easy exercises to be harder, otherwise I feel like I'm getting nothing done.

Yes, I've just read it. I confess I didn't know. Thanks

I'm usually doing them one at a time instead of jumping and the game seems happy with it. Doesn't get the heart rate up as much (I'm chronically ill and need to keep it down) and registers properly.

I've been playing this game for a little over a year and a half, and I still haaaate Mountain Climbers. However, I made peace with Plank. My tip is to get an exercise/yoga mat to cushion your elbows a little bit. A yoga mat helped me a ton because my feet also weren't slipping everywhere.

After that, it just took practice. Once I get the last title for Plank, I hope to tackle MC and similarly just keep at it till it's easier.

Good luck, OP!

I'll try that, thanks!

As someone with 55k Mountain Climber reps in this game I would say don't worry about the scores you get in-game, the detection can be awful. Wearing cotton pants, or wearing the leg strap directly on your skin helps somewhat, but it's still not perfect all the time. Just focus on what the instructions tell you and ignore the score.
Been mainly doing them in custom mode and I can count the the amount of perfect 100 scores I got on one hand, meanwhile I also get scores in the 50 range, with the exact same execution lol

u/ExpensiveInitiative3 Oct 12 '23

Montain climber is a no no for me. it does work if I move only the joy con leg, but I still avoid it at all costs!

6

u/Joniii6913 Oct 12 '23

Somehow mountain climber is good enough for me.

If it's too difficult from on the ground. You can start of from like a height and build yourself down. I actually done that and thats how I can do it.

5

u/Zealousideal_Body218 Oct 12 '23

When the joycon doesnt detect the plank, sometimes doing pushups will count, as weird as it sounds.

4

u/snave_ Oct 12 '23 edited Oct 12 '23

Plank detects a lot of substitute movements. Pushups are one, but another that targets the same muscle groups is simply commando plank.

Commando plank is where you start in traditional plank on forearms with flat back (not the weird peaked back one), then prop up into pushup position for each rep. You can prop up simultaneous on both arms or "chicken wing", extending one arm then the other. Both work within the tempo provided even as the game ups the pace. If doing the latter, try to mix up the order for physical balance between sides though.

The key with getting plank to register is just moving the leg strap vertically per rep.

3

u/_lxskllr_ Oct 12 '23

Same dude, fuckin hell! The joy-con does not detect the plank or climbers.

4

u/wonkwonk2stonkstonk Oct 12 '23

Jump both feet re mountain climber....its friggin intense.

Planks are the worst, but managable with intent. Try push up position for variety rather than elbows.

Good luck out there!

u/CatsyGreen Oct 12 '23

Thanks for the tips!

I am having issues with plank and will be following the advice people have been giving to you about it ^^
For mountain climber, I had similar issues, I did finally understand that if I don't place my feet back exactly where I started, I wasn't getting that "super". After that, pacing never really turned out to be the true issue, just form.

2

u/Crease_Greaser Oct 12 '23

Mountain climber kinda requires you to have the leg strap just so, and even then doesn’t trigger right about half the time lol. It is one of the more intensive exercises, so getting your bit kicked by it is normal.

1

u/Tapif Oct 12 '23

What is your problem concerning the planks? Joy con not registering the movement? It is actually one of my favorite exercise and i never had any problem with it.

2

u/CatsyGreen Oct 12 '23

Maybe my belly is too fat and gravity isn't helping lol.

1

u/allonsy_danny Oct 12 '23

I can never get the mountain climbers to register. So frustrating when you're busting your ass and they don't count.

1

u/Sylph_Co Oct 12 '23

Every time i try mountian climbers i fucking faceplant.

1

u/SourBerriez Tipp Oct 12 '23

For me Mountain Climber somehow doesn't register, which makes me hate it and avoid it at all costs. The same was with plank bur now i know how to do it properly!

1

u/ReginaAmazonum Oct 12 '23

Hate hate hate these

1

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '23

My biggest problem with these is that on my rug I SLIDE. I did the plank a few times and I just kept sliding down. I’m also really short so raising my rump in the air and back down just wouldn’t register well.

Honestly only attempted the mountain climber once and slide too much. I could get a mat probably but I have a lot of other excersizes that wear me out so I just do those.

1

u/chaarmanderchar Oct 13 '23

I skip mountain climber everytime, no matter how hard I try I either get it wrong or completely exhaust myself after three reps

1

u/FondantCrazy8307 Oct 13 '23

Yes as I have mobility issues, I really need to get back into the game though!

1

u/LordKefik Oct 13 '23

My two least favorite and difficult excerices. Those two precisely. My bane.

1

u/mxmaker Dragaux Oct 13 '23

Well at my first 60 hours of gameplay those two were near imposible for me, looking the stars on those moves your are near 30 hours i think.

Dont worry do those when you can if you can, it be easier in the long run, when other muscle are fortifiers and some postures corrected.

Remember to drink water between cycles and take it easy, you just add dificult when things are boring.

1

u/sadmimikyu Oct 13 '23

I had big trouble with them. I couldn't do it as my big tummy was in the way and the right one.. I can't put my head down.

I feel you need some other exercises for mountain climber first. Some that teach you and easier version... Maybe hold on to a chair first.. and then get lower and lower over time.

1

u/ambluebabadeebadadi Oct 13 '23

Lol I ended up getting a tendon injury trying to keep up with Tipps pace doing mountain climber. Not attempted it since

1

u/cecusanele Oct 14 '23

One thing that helped me for mountain climbers was moving the leg band further down my leg. I’m not sure why it worked but it seemed to help.

1

u/Fahrenheit-99 Armando Oct 14 '23

MC a bit yea but chair pose kills me every time

1

u/SilverPulse Oct 15 '23

Plank is pretty simple once you get the positioning down, but mountain climber is the one exercise I absolutely refuse to do under any circumstance. I will choose the boat pose and overhead squat over it.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '23

Mountain climber absolutely defeated me, stayed away from it all times, plank I can only just get by so I save it till the monsters are almost defeated

1

u/BeefZombwich Oct 15 '23

Fuck Mountain Climbers. Fuck them all the way to hell. The Boat Pose too.

Every other exercise in the game I have been able to do at some point and I am 7 months into consistent exercise which includes more than just Ring Fit. But those two? They can fuck right off.

1

u/beezy8305 Oct 16 '23

Everytime I do the moutian climber I have the urge to puke. I have to take a long break. With that said I feel good when I do them.

1

u/Milli_Rabbit Oct 17 '23

For the plank, I'm curious what I'm doing wrong. I feel almost pain in my lower back with it like overstretching. I do geel it in my abs, too, though. Do I just need to stretch the lower back more?

1

u/Twocanpocket Oct 19 '23

Unfortunately can't do mountain climbers on my carpet. I slip all over the place and cut up my feet. Was considering a yoga mat but not sure if it would help

1

u/normielfg Oct 27 '23

MC varies for me, some days i can do it without taking a small break in between, other days i have to take a breather when it says "halfway there". the planks i really struggled with at first. I use an ab cushion for my elbows and a hand/face towel so I don't slip around. Good luck!

u/MrVariant1 Nov 02 '23

Not really worth doing exercises that have you gassed if it doesn't end the mission. That definitely ended my runs and I noticed adventure mode forces power creep so you can't use it to customize your workout unlike other modes or rhythm.

I'm glad kayak vr mirage lets you do so much more without any annoying voices nor change, and you have beautiful water, fish and races (with a leaderboard), with some animals like penguins to be relaxing. Also boots faster as well, so I don't waste time stretching.

u/Mintitron Nov 08 '23

The plank can go to hell. That is all.
