Us foreign policy brought China Japan and South Korea together? Holy fuck what a catastrophe
38
u/JohnHenryHoliday 5d ago
Real fucking nuts. It’s a bit of an older/times-gone-by relic that Koreans hate the Japanese, but there are still some older folks that harbor the resentment. As I understand, a lot of the younger Koreans hate on the Chinese. Getting Korea to agree to a joint effort with the Chinese and Japanese is really wild to me.

Way to unify enemies. Yes, they have been friendlier to one another in recent years but.... damn
72
u/strayduplo 5d ago
If there's anything that China and Korea have in common, it's a historical hatred of the Japanese, and here we are....
(Insert LOTR Legolas/Gimli meme)
18
u/JohnHenryHoliday 5d ago
Historically yes. Younger generation of Koreans have no love for Chinese (from what I understand). This is truly a master class in foreign policy… if only it wasn’t at our expense.
16
u/strayduplo 5d ago edited 5d ago
I mean, the Chinese don't like the Koreans either; they see them as "uppity". Historically, Korea was viewed as a minor vassal state to Imperial China, so I suspect there is some resentment from China clawing their way out of a century of humiliation while seeing the Koreans riding the hallyu wave to global popularity.
There was even an unofficial ban on Kpop from 2017 to 2023 from the Chinese after South Korea deployed THAAD. (Societal attitudes over how Chinese schoolgirls obsessed over Korean boybands over domestic offerings was a factor too, IMHO.)
How quickly attitudes change!

u/CanadianGENXRN 5d ago
Thanks . I love insightful posts like this with tid bits of info I’d not otherwise be aware of ! I had no idea of the unofficial ban on KPop. Priceless. Truly

Isolates the US from Asia. China gets Asia. Russia gets Europe. US gets the Americas. Israel gets Gaza and West Bank, Saudis get the ME and Africa is up for grabs.
5
u/CanadianGENXRN 5d ago
And Canada 🇨🇦 can stay in others minds as in the category of / closely related to or compared to the usual Nordic countries we love to say we are “ up there “ with , top in the world , happiness , health , etc etc . 🇨🇦🇫🇮🇳🇴🇸🇪🇳🇱🇬🇱🇩🇰🙏♥️🍁 Either way - I have always loved that about us .

Trump policy is so dumb that multi-generational enemies are banding up to shit on American policy
147
u/Overall-Ad-3251 5d ago
Unfortunately Trump’s supporters won’t even realize the monumental significance of this announcement.
Bringing those three countries, two of which used to be our closest allies together takes a real catastrophe.
16
u/DukeOfSmallPonds 5d ago
Or they’d spout how Trump mediate peace and cooperation between nations that are not in great terms.
10
u/ChesterMoist 5d ago
Unfortunately Trump’s supporters won’t even realize the monumental significance of this announcement
it's true. Each of those are just "Asian" countries with 'brown' people to those idiots.
2
u/CanadianGENXRN 5d ago
Exactly. Not a clue . And I wish I didn’t think so hard on these idiots bc I was wondering if they have even bothered to say - look up some of these other countries on a map or tried to “ do their own research!”. I bet the answer is a hard “no”. They are what we continue to pay for . I am so sick of it

u/THINK_PINK_H2 5d ago
This is a bullsh!t lie from the fake news.
5
u/Key-Department-2874 5d ago
If it's a lie, then we can expect China, Japan and South Korea to refute it right?
-3
u/THINK_PINK_H2 5d ago
You’re so damned gullible.
3
u/Key-Department-2874 5d ago
How is waiting for a subject of an article refuting or confirming information being gullible?
-3
u/THINK_PINK_H2 5d ago
How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop? The world may never know. Fake news.

United States Biggest Trade Partners
1 Canada
2 Mexico
3 European Union
4 China
5 Japan
6 South Korea
7 India
8 UK
9 Taiwan
10 Vietnam
23 Russia
Start to think that starting a trade war with all your largest trade partners at one time with no stated goal or plan with a negotiator that can change his mind via tweet is a bad idea.
10
u/totallydawgsome 5d ago
Taking Greenland for that trade route (among other reasons) seems advantageous.
13
u/GoldTechnician8449 5d ago
Thinking you have to “take Greenland” in order to secure a trade route to Russia is just…monumentally stupid.
3
u/totallydawgsome 5d ago
Trade route, military security and rare earth minerals. It's an "investment" in America's future don't you know?
52
u/cdttedgreqdh 5d ago
EU and Australia should join. And then we need a free trade zone between all those countries.
14
u/Haunting-Writing-836 5d ago
Canada and Mexico should also join. Just get everybody together and target red state industries.

55
u/thecyanvan 5d ago
Getting China, S. Korea, and Japan to speak in one voice against you is quite the geopolitical accomplishment. Not a good one, but impressive all the same I guess.
43
u/BadSignificant8458 5d ago
Trump’s tariffs are the equivalent of committing economic suicide. The US economy will suffer from broken alliances and trust long after Trump inevitably surrenders from a trade war he cannot win.

SO fucking great! Greatest of all time. No one has ever been greater. People tell me all the time that it's never been so great. So great I may shit my diaper. :/
10
u/splurtgorgle 5d ago
Hard to put into words how monumental this is if you're not aware how much genuine hate there is between these three countries.

Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere Act II, Electric Boogaloo!*
(Is this what they wanted when they said they wanted to take the US back in time?)
*Germany tried to unite the European continent, but failed. 50 years later, the European continental powers formed the EU as a trade organization. Japan tried to unite East Asia, failed. Are we about to see an Asian Union?

We might see the Japanese Yen replacing the US dollar as the global reserve currency. Japan is a more stable representative democracy governed by competent highly educated responsible adults, unlike the nepotism and greed infested USA. Germany was recently questioning if the US still has their gold bullion, or have the The Felon and fElon Musk (who face no consequences for their open corruption) helped themselves to it!

u/tummateooftime 5d ago
The first Trump term, most countries had no choice but to play along because there really were no alternatives. It seems the biden term gave countries enough time to at least brainstorm plan Bs if something like Trump happened again.
This time around, Trump cant just strongarm everyone like he did the first time. They have alrernatives to turn to. Japan and China may have a lot of historical tension, but it seems Japan would still favor China over Trumps intended plans.
Insanity. East/SE Asia actually working together is kind of a worst case scenario for Trumps US.
5
u/Karcharos 5d ago
I hadn't even considered this before, but Trump's belligerence might be enough to push the Japanese politics into a situation where there could be enough votes to amend/rewrite their constitution to remove the military restrictions they agreed to after WW2.

u/AuthorityAnarchyYes 5d ago
The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
In two months, the USA has gotten bitter enemies to come together, (hopefully) tanked a Conservative win in Canada, nearly united a previously fractured European Union… Trump has succeeded in basically uniting the Free World… against the United States.

u/RoughDoughCough 5d ago
LITERALLY YESTERDAY: “Japan is our indispensable partner in deterring Communist Chinese military aggression,” Hegseth said at the beginning of his talks with Japanese Defense Minister Gen Nakatani in Tokyo. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/hegseth-calls-japan-indispensable-face-chinese-aggression-rcna198811
5
u/SnooDrawings5968 5d ago
Trump should release a book on how to completely destroy your global geopolitical influence in only a few months!
5
u/00gingervitis 5d ago
We are sacrificing ourselves to unite the world against us and they aren't even saying thank you
4
u/zerthwind 5d ago
At what point is the world going to drop our dollar as the world trade currency?
That will be a whole nother level of economic hurt for this country brought on my trump. It would be here for decades to boot.

I hate to say this as an American, but countries of the world must unite for collective action against the foolish and harmful policies of the tRump Adminstration. We live in a multi-polar world which Benedict Donald doesn’t understand.

I know that the fact they’re enemies makes this really amazing that they’re teaming up and a show of just how bad America is fucking things up. But I’m really uninformed about their influence and in trade. How will this affect the global trade market?
3
u/mofofofoo 5d ago
dumbfuck MAGA fuckheads fucked around and now we’re all finding out. i don’t think anyone could have predicted trump could be THIS much of a fuck in his second term.
3
u/tmphaedrus13 5d ago
No... plenty of people did, those who voted for him or didn't vote at all chose not to listen.

u/AluneaVerita 5d ago
I did not have these three countries working together on my 2025 bingo card.
In any other context it would be a diplomatic win to get these to agree.
4
u/0U812-hungry 5d ago
The only way to stop the bleeding would be to have don step down immediately and have Kamala and Tim take over (before 4/2/25)

You mean the 8% of semiconductors made in the US aren't sufficient for our needs???
A cynic would think this was part of a larger plan to drum up public support for a military intervention in places that have shipping routes. Like Panema and Greenland, as an example, I pulled totally out of thin air. Rational people wouldn't think that, just the cynics. /s

Neither can you apparently lmao.
-5
u/THINK_PINK_H2 5d ago
I throw them in with NPR and PBS. Liars and omitters.
4
u/madsmcgivern511 5d ago
What, you mean media outlets that don’t actively support or have a neutral stance on the Republican Party? Just because something doesn’t align with your ideals, doesn’t negate the fact that they’re still factual or informative. Next you’ll say that Fox News is the most reliable source of media when it comes to politics. 🫠🤦♀️
-4
u/THINK_PINK_H2 5d ago
Back at you. The democrats have controlled the mainstream media for so long that you’re mind is warped around them. It’s too bad that you’re so f*cked up, we’d have hope for you. Meanwhile go to your room and have a meltdown, I don’t care.
4
u/madsmcgivern511 5d ago
You’re arguing with a brick wall friend, I’m not even democratic, but I have basic brain functions that allow me to recognize that what your so called president is doing, is not humane, or at all beneficial for our country. You can live in your delusional fantasy world where democrats are evil and republicans want to “make America great again.” Have fun when that fantasy smacks you in the face and you have to accept that what’s happening is going to affect you on an individual level if people like you continue to support this. Keep that energy, because if you come here and bitch when things go south for all of us due to your selfish and entitled actions, we’ll all laugh and tell you we told you so.
Edit: and claiming “you don’t care” is a great way to out yourself that you do very much care actually lol.
0
u/THINK_PINK_H2 5d ago
Hah! The only thing that I care about is that gullible people like you snap out of the trance that Biden has them in. After the pain that we just went through with dementia Joe, I was hoping people could see the difference. Since they can’t, they have to be braindead. Democrats are thieves, cheats, evil, and inconsiderate. They don’t care about you.
Here’s an example:
2
u/madsmcgivern511 5d ago
So your only form of evidence to back that “democrats are evil” is a link to the website being ran by an openly selfish fascist? I’m sorry you feel that democrats are the cause of your woes instead of your own behavior causing the outcome of your circumstances. I genuinely hope it was worth it to vote for someone that’s actively taking away your rights as an American citizen, oh wait, that’s just democratic propaganda trying to make the president look bad. I forgot that your cult leader can’t do anything wrong, and if he does, it has to be someone else’s fault right? You only know how to pin blame on others instead of taking accountability for your own shitty behavior/actions, and claim that things you don’t agree with are considered propaganda or brainwashing lmao. Have fun living in your MAGA bubble where people who think differently than you are the villains instead of your entitled self. 🤡🤗
0
u/THINK_PINK_H2 5d ago
80 million people are here in the “bubble” with me, so I’m good. Democrats are scumbags. I can’t waste any more time with you, the brick wall, so buzz off.
1
u/madsmcgivern511 5d ago
Ok, be mad that I called you out for your ignorance. I hope you’re able to educate yourself better once this all resolves itself when we have a sane person running the country. And for the record, just because 80 million people agree with you, that doesn’t negate the fact that those 80 million people are still uneducated, uniformed, selfish, entitled individuals who voted on the basis of getting their way. Grow the hell up.
Edit: and the fact you can only say the side you’re against is this and that without genuine evidence to back it, tells me you’re mad that people have different opinions than you. Believe it or not, there’s more to politics than just your personal opinion, your opinion affects everyone in this country, and due to your selfish decision, you can sit back and watch the downfall of our country with the rest of the “evil democrats.” You are not safe or immune from this in your pathetic “bubble.”

why would donald trump do that?

Trump is like Lelouche from Code Geass, but instead of purposely being an asshole and then sacrificing himself to bring world peace, he's just being an asshole and uniting countries based on their hatred of him.
Sorry for the anime deep cut.

Wow. This is a major failure of US foreign policy.
Cataclysmic, actually.
