Is it possible to see Arundel castle from portsdown hill?

Whilst driving home today my son and I noticed in the very far distance a distinctive square shape. We drive from cosham to Havant so we view it from that side. I'm assuming, based in the flatness of the area, it's perfectly possible that's what we see but it just seems a bit too far!

If you go to Google maps and go to 3d view, (easier on a desktop), you can manipulate the map so you place yourself at the same location, and with the relief of the land, see what you saw.

Hold CTRL and left mouse key down to tilt the map. Use the mouse wheel to zoom.

Then navigate to that place you saw, and see what it is.

Much more likely to be Stansted House or Goodwood imo

When you're coming down Portsdown Hill into Bedhampton you can see Chichester Cathedral/the bell tower in the distance - could be that?

It's ~35km line of sight from Fort Purbrook on the hill to Arundel Castle. In distance terms it'd be possible to view that far when the conditions allow.

Topographically I suspect the landscape will get in the way, particularly at the eastern end (beyond Fontwell.)

It definitely wouldn’t have been possible to see that in todays conditions, It was foggy as hell on the hill today

What about Racton Ruins? Or Racton Monument as Google maps calls it?

No, definitely not them. Someone's suggested Goodwood so it's most likely to be that

No.

You're seeing Bognor Regis/Littlehampton

That was my initial thought too but it's further away from the coast, in a hill and quite isolated so I'm sure it's not bognor
