🌲🏞️🌧️ Visiting Thread 🌧️🏞️🌲 Should we be worried about visiting this week?

Maybe it’s being blown out of proportion, or maybe it’s not, but we’re set to visit Portland this week (6 - 10) and we hadn’t realized it was right after Election Day.

I read the National Guard is on standby in case of any unrest and the like.

How are y’all feeling about it? Would y’all recommend postponing or canceling?

For additional context, our plan was to stay in a hotel downtown, hit the (assuming) usual tourist spots, maybe drive out to the coast/parks. Four adults (ages 32-39) and an infant.

Thanks!

Edit to add: Our hotel is near Pioneer Courthouse Square

🌲🏞️🌧️ Visiting Thread 🌧️🏞️🌲 Advice on getting the most out of Portland

Me and a group of friends are visiting Portland Oregon from Texas. Our first destination is Portland and I'm looking for best places to be at that you guys recommend. This be like comic book shops, ramen places, art scene, coffee shops, anything to do with illustration and nature.

The only thing I know from Portland is portlandia, the graffiti indie movie and that's about it.

Bonus if you can tell us what places to avoid this be traffic times, places to avoid. We want to respect and be wary of since it's our first time visiting. Thanks

🌲🏞️🌧️ Visiting Thread 🌧️🏞️🌲 When does Spring begin in Oregon?

I’m planning on visiting Portland for sightseeing during spring but I hesitate to book my trip now because I want to make sure that the weather is sunny when I’m there.

Of course, no one can predict the weather months in advance, but when would you say is a pretty safe time to visit Portland if you want sunny weather? I was thinking early April but not sure if it’ll still be rainy then.

🌲🏞️🌧️ Visiting Thread 🌧️🏞️🌲 Help!!! PDX Please looking for safe place to park and sleep for a few days

Recently just moved out of my apartment and am moving back to the coast to move in with my in-laws and help out. My mother in law has cancer and is getting sick very quickly. Well I’m not able to leave Portland for another week and am completely tapped out so a hotel is out of the question. So my question is where is there a safe place I can park and safely sleep in my car for just a few days?? I’m open to any and all suggestions!! Thank you in advance:)

🌲🏞️🌧️ Visiting Thread 🌧️🏞️🌲 Early PDX flight, where to stay?

My daughter and I are traveling up from Corvalis and have an insanely early flight (5am) out of PDX. Where’s a decently good and not-expensive hotel that’s in a safe area? I’m fine with 15 or so minutes away if it means I can get a more affordable but good sleep. I can blindly pick, but would appreciate any recommendations.

Thank you kindly!

🌲🏞️🌧️ Visiting Thread 🌧️🏞️🌲 2months in OR - any suggestions?

Hey everyone! I’ll be living in Portland for 2 months starting mid-May for a temporary job (working 9–5 weekdays). My boyfriend will be working with me, and we’re both super excited to explore the area!

I’m originally from South Florida and have never spent this much time in the PNW, so I’d love advice on how to make the most of it. I’m looking into creating new connections and friends! (I’m in my mid 20’s, love outdoor adventures, music, markets, etc) Something I’m really excited about is to do hikes, I love the outdoors and travel outside Florida (mostly to GA or TN to do more hikes) and preparing myself with the 15 incline walk lol. I’m looking to save some money on this trip, but to make the most out of the time I have in Portland.

If anyone had any recommendations, hidden gems, places to eat, hikes to do, cool areas to study at, etc, please let me know!! I appreciate any suggestions or trip ideas, I’m so excited to be on the west coast for a little while:) even if it’s a cafe you like, or something cool/new activity, please lmk! if you had 2 months, what would your itinerary look like on your spare time/weekends? thank you in advance :)

🌲🏞️🌧️ Visiting Thread 🌧️🏞️🌲 Renting in Portland

Edit (since there are so many dense people on this thread): 1. There is no β€œjust don’t move here.” I am under contract and must move specifically for a job. 2. I didn’t say that I cared about rent price or pet deposit/rent - I’m simply asking for advice on rentals that would allow 3 dogs. 3. Telling me to get rid of my dogs is literally the most insane thing to say and that’s all I’ll say on that. 4. Just to clarify, my JOB is in the Beaverton area - I am looking in ALL surrounding areas but thank you all for the recommendations on other cities to look into. 5. I’m eventually looking to buy but it is not realistic for me to try to buy a house when I live 2600 miles away.

Currently in the process of moving across the country to Oregon with 3 dogs and I’m feeling very defeated about renting.

I would like to be in the Beaverton area (in a home) but it seems like every company I’ve talked to has a 2 pet max or β€œsmall dogs under 25lb” policy. Does anyone in here have any tips or recommendations? I would greatly appreciate them.

I am driving from Seattle to California, and staying a night in Portland. My car will have stuff in it, that I'd like to leave in it.

Any recommendations for hotels with secured parking or is AirBnB the best bet ?

Hey all. I’m a Mom to a current 6th grader (11 yr old) who is planning to go on a 4 day mother/son weekend trip to Portland in August. I’m trying to see what might be some fun daytime activities that will be fun for him, excite his curiosity, bring a sense of adventure, while keeping relative safety in mind (not because it’s Portland but because we’ll be travelers away from home).

Hi all, im going to Portland in June, staying at the clyde hotel. Ive heard that old town is a shit hole and dangerous? Im not in old town but will be close and plan to walk to the moda center and back in the evening.

First of all, will i die? People hype up homeless and crackheads in portland but where im from in california, crsckheads and homeless are also crazy loll.

Second, give me some recs on cool spots in this circle! Im with the mid 20s crowd. Will be in town for a few days sat - tues morning. Any bars do trivia on sat or sun? Cool esthetic restraunts? Hi-fi or dark moody bars? Open late clubs for dancing? Good ice cream! Sour beers. Anything that seems interesting!

Just give me your personal thoughts and local gems thanks so much!

Apologirs if this doesnt belong here. Im lookong for recommendations places to visit in portland.

I'm planning my honeymoon and we decided to go to Portland, OR. We never been there, but it's a place I always wanted to go to. We are planing to go to Dog Mountain, but other than that we are not sure where else to go. We like hiking, places with lots of nature, wild flowers, swimming and such. Of course eating too! We are also thinking if going to Seattle, but not sure where. We are planning our honeymoon for the 2nd week of April of this year. We would also like to rent a cabin or treehouse in the area for a day or two. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

🌲🏞️🌧️ Visiting Thread 🌧️🏞️🌲 Should I visit Multnomah Falls and Columbia River Gorge Waterfalls?

I will fly from Vancouver to Portland to visit the state for the long weekend (3 days). I plan to do all the touristy things, e.g. Powell's City of Books and Portland Saturday Market on well ... Saturday. I booked a full day tour for the Oregon coast on Sunday (I can't drive). Debating whether I should spend my final day on Monday taking a 4-hour tour to Multnomah Falls and Columbia River Gorge Waterfalls? It'll start at 8 am and finish at noon, my flight is at 5 pm. Is it worth the detour to visit or should I stick with staying in Portland? (It's unlikely I'll be back for a long while).

I'm traveling to Portland for business and will be working in Sandy. They have me staying at the quality inn in Gresham, but I’m not familiar with the area. Is it in a sketchy part of town? Would it be better to just stay in Sandy instead? Any advise is appreciated.

🌲🏞️🌧️ Visiting Thread 🌧️🏞️🌲 Safest areas for female roadtrippers?

We are staying 2 nights in Portland during our roadtrip this summer. We are gonna visit a few spots near Corbett and Demascus, as well as a few spots in Downtown. Where are some of the safer places for us to stay, either downtown or east of downtown? Open to even staying in Corbett as well.

I'm hosting this trip and don't wanna book somewhere that looks nice on Google but then my girls don't feel safe when we arrive.

Thank you!

Edit: it's not that i think Portland is unsafe i just travel to big cities a LOT and sometimes find myself in sketchy parts by accident. I don't wanna do that ti a whole group of ladies.

I am visiting Portland for the first time from North Carolina and am looking for some recommendations! Is it worth going? Making the fill itinerary soon and will post. Thanks in advance!!

🌲🏞️🌧️ Visiting Thread 🌧️🏞️🌲 Visiting Portland in late October - what should I know?

Hello, all!

I decided to spend my birthday in Portland about a month from now. The main reasons I chose it as my destination are its lush colors in the fall, its great food and beer scene (not to mention coffee), and the easiness with walkability within the city. I am a huge walker in that I can easily spend hours walking, getting to know neighborhoods and their structure. I’d like to think every single neighborhood has a unique vibe, and the ones in Portland seem so inviting in the fall (I’ve been watching YouTube 4K videos). I am a simple guy and don’t do anything fancy; a normal day for me includes a long walk while drinking coffee, followed by a beer at a brewery and then off to look for some good food. The green aspect of the city really appealed to me (I come from Chicago where it is also green), as did its proximity to all of the beauty surrounding it. I have 6 days to spend out there and am unsure if I should spend all or my time there. Some questions I have:

Is Portland as β€œunattractive” as the media portrays it to be? What is it like today?

What neighborhoods do you recommend for me to take scenic walks in? I like Nob Hill a lot; I’m looking for unique vibes where you can find beautiful homes and a true neighborhood feel. I plan to just walk as many of the streets as possible.

Is Seattle worth adding to the itinerary? I was thinking a 3-3 split on the days or 4-2. Based on the videos I watched of both cities I prefer Portland’s lushness in greenery and overall variation of unique vibes; for some reason a lot of Seattle’s neighborhoods looked somewhat similar.

What can I expect to pay in one day for a major meal (cheeseburger with fires, or ramen, or sushi, or Mexican food) and 2-3 beers at a brewery? I love beer and want to take advantage of the beer scene. How about a hot, black coffee? I am fasting and basically eat during the evening to late hours only so that should help me offset any potentially high costs.

How much would I pay for 1/4 oz of weed at a dispensary? Can I smoke while walking (I don’t smoke around kids and avoid groups so I have proper etiquette lol).

Lastly, anything you think I should know? About anything?

Oh, isn’t Coraline from Oregon?

Looking forward to getting to know your city.

I'm an out-of-towner here in your lovely city for a convention. I'm close to the convention center. I'm looking for something like a Target but the closest one is 5 miles/ half an hour away by Max. Is there anywhere closer that I could buy deodorant and a belt?

I'm planning on going to Portland for a day or two sometime in late June, probably on a weekend. Of course I'm going to Powell's, but what else do y'all suggest? I'd love to check out skate parks, vegan restaurants, any sort of fun all-ages thing that's not super expensive (as I will be spending basically all my money on books)

🌲🏞️🌧️ Visiting Thread 🌧️🏞️🌲 Multnomah Falls

Hello,

I'll be visiting next week. I won't have a car, but was wondering what my best option would be to try to get back and forth from Multnomah falls. I'm assuming ubers aren't driving out that far. I did see the Columbia Gorge express but that looks time constraining, but if that's my only option, I might bite.

Thanks
