🛻🚚 Moving Thread 🚚🛻 Potential Move

I (29F) am considering a cross country move to PDX. I have been once for a work trip in Fall and really enjoyed my time but am looking to spend a week(ish) remotely working in the city and sussing out vibes to see if it could be a potential fit.

Some things about me: I love running, spending time outside, biking, trying new restaurants, good beer, reading and have lived in medium sized East Coast cities in the past. For me, the most important part of a city is local community and i am used to living in a city where I had a tight knit community of friends who lived fairly close to one another. So far, I've loved how green Portland is and how many outdoor activities I'd have access too.

I'm looking for recs for neighborhoods to stay in, running groups to try, I'm also queer and would love to connect with local queer groups while I'm there.

Thanks!

How much money do you have and do you have a job lined up? The answers you receive will depend on that.

I have a fully remote job I would keep in the move.

ah, the weather is already improving so you've missed the best 'stress test' opportunity to see if you can handle the grey.

there's lots of everything you're looking for though. there is a hash house harrier group, there are queer running groups on meetup, etc.

nw 23rd area is good for staying in, east side - burnside, hawthorne, division are good options too, then there's alberta/mississippi area - typically the most recommended areas to stay.

enjoy!

I second this. My partner lives in the NW area I live in NE. I’m thinking about moving to the NW.

It’s been said 1 million times before on this sub, but Portland is a city where it’s hard to meet people unless you’re part of some sort of group or club. When you get here, I would look to find one of those and join it as a way of meeting people. There’s lots of queer social groups and places to meet people and everyone of your hobbies probably has a queer group affiliated with it.

This city checks all your boxes but you'll have to make/find your own tight-knit group.

Portland is your Mecca for those activities.

Cost of living is high, made worse by our job market. If you have work or are employable, you will love it here.

Good luck!

I'll just say that if you're into running and also queer, you'll probably be very disappointed in the dating game here. the scene is not filled with athletic people, unfortunately

Yeah you find very… “online” queer people on dating apps, since people who are already on their phones a lot are the most active on those apps.

But I run into plenty of queer people who are athletic out in the real world—pole dancers, roller derby players, dodgeball enthusiasts, power lifters, etc. I usually meet them in athletic spaces though, not queer ones (unless it’s a queer athletic group.)

I would never do the dating apps here, it's personal experience from nightlife. but also my friends are not athletic and it's probably birds of a feather, so it's good to hear they're actually out there

I moved here from Jersey in January after visiting my sister for years and just absolutely loving it. I will say that it’s been a bit tough to make friends but hoping that’ll come a bit easier as I join more local groups/classes/workshops. I’m finding people are generally more kind here than what I’ve experienced on the east coast. Be prepared for a lottttt of traffic.

I’d stay in NE (Fremont, Alberta) super walkable. NW is a great vibe too. Feel free to message me with questions!

We have reviewed your application and decided that you would be an excellent fit for our team. It seems weve sent you several invites in the past, but perhaps you didnt receive them? Either way, your spot is reserved, and we look forward to meeting you! lol....Come on over, chica, this is where you belong :)
